| Hi All,
I was trying to compile a wish list of the 8 part series of stand alone adventures from WOTC. Here is what I have come up with so far:
1 Sunless Citadel 2 The Forge of Fury 3 The Speaker in Dreams 4 The Standing Stone 5 6 7 Lord of the Iron Fortress 8
Are these the correct, and what would the missing titles be? I would also appreciate any comments on the quality of these adventures.
Thanks | | Completed Trades: Cha0tic g0od x2,IHawk x6,demagogue x5,jcnorris00,Sammael x3,Diomedes x3,Pan,Phoenix,samstephenson500,sage_raistlin,jai,simage,Lab Monkey x4,bugsy,Vulturedoodle,T-Bone,niolo,GreyOne,Kunimatyu,Mullins,ShivanWurm,berus316,Thenameless x3,Tysac,ksuvampire,Mama Cass,Metz,Zim x2,brucemc,Krush x2,Venport,RedneckDM,nycfarmkid,Corim Danex,Chad the DragonLordofAiur x2,Puggins,Izeya82 x2,Oryan77 x3,Zenako,Wayne,Vocenoctum1,Drakkengi,Username x2,lyus_sleyden,Cyberia,Star x2,xuthal x3,Qucalion of Celene x8,sam500 x2,Blob39,Keoki x2,hazel monday x3,emontedodger,Dargoth,Wraithborne,Anothermullen,Vrecknidj x4,Ghendar,Gunthar,shoesan,beurice,ckissee,kyrin,Khellrendros,GuJiaXian,Wolfgang,True_Blue,md3,stephengroy(MMT08),Teflon Jeff,GuJiaXian(MMT08),aries71,Count Dooku,Kat_Dawg33,oldben,TheChuck,hung4treasonI I I I I I I I I I 0 I I I I I I I I I I Pending: | |

| Your looking for:
5 Heart of Nightfang Spire 6 Deep Horizon 8 Bastion of Broken Souls
The only one I played was Lord of the Iron Fortress, and that was fun. I remember we caused our DM to wail in frustration when we by accident hit the end fight first (I can give spoilers, but would rather be vague) ruining hours of prep work because the end boss wasn't ready for us. I do remember there were a lot of elements that were highly amusing to us and nothing comes to mind that made us say, "That's crap." But it was awhile ago that I played it, unfortunately. | | Completed trades: blackthorne, Drakkengi,Thorgrin, Ironfist Boulderbender x2, ckissee, nasamonkey, Username, Star, Ace13 x3, emontedodger x2, Drconveyor, church, Joeyb, Sir Bozak The Damned, Xeromod, the other guy x2, Qucalion of Celene, Dagaron x2, berus316, qillan_dvra, AshloreDarkShadow

| You can buy The Sunless Citadel from DriveThruRPGf.com for $9.95. Here is a link:
http://rpg.drivethrustuff.com/product_info.php?products_id=3727
Yes it is legitimate. It isn't cheap however. You are paying full retail price for a PDF product. I managed to get it a month or two ago when it was on sale for $6.95. Of course, I don't know how easy it is to come across the hard copy of the adventure so the PDF may still be a good option for you.

| Most of those are available used from Amazon for around $2 + shipping.
Speaker In Dreams, Standing Stone, and Deep Horizon are the weakest of the lot. Sunless Citadel, Forge of Fury, and Heart of Nightfang Spire are the strongest.
I've got the entire series and have played through the sequence twice with two different groups. One thing to consider is all of these mods are basically generic dungeon crawls (Speaker In Dreams and Standing Stone are a little less so). However, there is enough fluff given to allow creative DMs to really flesh out interesting NPCs. Case in point is the infamous Meepo from The Sunless Citadel. Really, the best writing in these mods is the characterizations of the NPCs.
The encounters are generally appropriate, however, if the DMs dice start rolling hot (or the PCs are very tactically unsound) there is a very real possibility of TPK. The Forge of Fury had a couple of TPKs with my gaming group. First was the incident of Sergeant Wang and Private Fu (Orc guards) who critically hit 6 out of 10 dice rolls. Next was the utter failure by the entire party to save against a sleep spell. Bad times for all.
The Sunless Citadel, Forge of Fury, Heart of Nightfang Spire, and Bastion of Broken Souls have a thematic background story running through them that is largely lacking in Speaker In Dreams, Standing Stone, and Deep Horizon revolving around an ancient dragon cult.
One nice thing about this series is that basically all of the monsters encountered (at least in the first 5 parts) have minis in the DDM line. I haven't updated my list for a while. I know that a couple of key monsters (i.e. mooncalf and desmodu) still don't have minis/decent proxies. | | Knight Warlord a.k.a. Commander (#32) in only 6 months. Where's my pie? | thanks Olaf the Stout but I'll pass on the pdf thing ... I hate them for modules. (where I pay to use my own ink..no deal but thats anotehr topic ) Z great write up at least it gives me a idea on what others I could hunt down. I have seen many of the others still on the shelves but Sunless always seems to be missing from the set. Maybe I will try amazon to track it down (as i do have a account with them) thanks guys!

Because having the mini makes the encounter balance? Just kidding.Â

That's ok. Personally I prefer PDF's for modules. I can print extra maps out, cut and paste the stat blocks to a Word doc and print them all seperately so that I don't have to constantly flip pages. I can write notes on the pages and know that I'm not ruining my one and only copy (I'm a bit anal when it comes to writing in printed books). The ability to search can also come in very useful.
Each to their own I guess.

| I appreciate all the info, guys. From what I am hearing, it would be well worth my time to track these down (and with some of the ridiculously low used prices on Amazon, I can afford to do so). I'm sort of ashamed to admit it, but I've never DMed before, and was hoping that published adventures would be the way to go for my first few campaigns. I've also thought about getting one of the mega modules such as Shackled City, or Shattered Gates of Slaughtergarde.

| Shackled City is an Awesome module path... I personally think the best one of the 3. Shattered Gates of Slaughtergarde is a great module if you are a beginner DM because its has handy footnotes all through it and its a dungeon type crawl. Both are great for seperate reasons...good choices! | | Champion of the Peryton Vindicated Champion : Pit Fiend, Devourer ATG: Fog Giant DW: Duergar Priest RPG Only!!!! The Drumming Drunkn' DM | |

| I've also got the Shacked City AP Hardcover. I haven't run it but I have read the adventures. They sound like a lot of fun but can be quite deadly. Some people also think that it is a bit heavy on the dungeon crawl aspect. Of course, if your group like that sort of thing then it would be right up your alley.  Olaf the Stout | | My Trade Thread 12 Trades Completed - Bert the Troll, Keoki, elf_ranger, kalle, Dropbear, twilightraven, SkYlyn3, Monolthicus (x2), qillan_dvra, xuthal, MMT 2007 My Reference Thread | |

Thanks, zenthrus There's no need to apologize for not DMing yet. Published adventures are a good way to start. It may be a challenge for you to use a 3.0 adventure though when there are things that need updating to 3.5, if you haven't DM'd before. My friend (who had never DM'd before) took us through Sunless Citadel recently. There were several challenging moments for him as he struggled with using info from the module or the 3.5 monster manual when there were differences. You'll need a dozen twig blights for Sunless Citadel, btw.

| Check the web, though. At least with Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil there were web groups who had done a lot of the work already. There might be online updates out there for you to use.
As for using mds, that's how I started DMing as well a long time ago. If you want another easy way to start DMing, check out the RPGA.
