Check out:

The Aceum

Complete D&D Product List

I've been collecting the stuff for years. If you're looking for originals and not PDFs, often you can get a lot of the common stuff on ebay pretty cheap (like 1st ed mods B2 and X1). If it was limited or hard to find, like Bloodstone series, it can get expensive, but if you keep your eyes open you never know what will turn up in gaming stores, auctions, sales, etc.

Completed trades: blackthorne, Drakkengi,Thorgrin, Ironfist Boulderbender x2, ckissee, nasamonkey, Username, Star, Ace13 x3, emontedodger x2, Drconveyor, church, Joeyb, Sir Bozak The Damned, Xeromod, the other guy x2, Qucalion of Celene, Dagaron x2, berus316, qillan_dvra, AshloreDarkShadow

No problem.Â

Without people like you selling collecions, I wouldn't have half of the great books I have now.

Here's another one.

http://home.flash.net/~brenfrow/index.htm

If there are used book stores in your area, they can be a treasure trove as well.

Edit:  I knew I had another link around here somewhere.

http://webpages.charter.net/jazzn2day/Collectors%20Checklist%20-%20D&D,%20AD&D%20

One thing to be cautious of when buying used stuff is completeness.  Many sellers don't necessarilly know what should be in a product.  Many products don't list the complete contents.  I found the TSR archive site an excellent resource for that information.

You know, I keep thinking that after the new design team gets done with D&D 4e, D&D won't stand for Dungeons and Dragons anymore, because well, that's just not fun. It's old and stuffy. - Originally Posted by BabWryter on Kenzerco.com

nyjastul69 is giving great advice. This is especially true for the old solo mods and ones that came with a lot of cut outs. I've gotten some that were missing a lot but I didn't think to ask.

I had every 2nd edition book with the exception of Spelljammer and Dark Sun (never enjoyed them). Unfortunately - I've gotten rid of 90% my 1st and 2nd edition stuff...still looking to unload the last of the 2nd edition stuff...(shameless plug for my marketplace post)...

I didn't have much time yesterday. Here are some more random thoughts.

Get educated. I can't recommend the Acaeum site enough. Not just the price lists, read the boards. They're very good with helping people out there. I just recently decloaked over there.

Be patient. There's almost nothing that won't come up for auction over the course of a year. Even the R's and RPGA's come up pretty often. There's no reason to pay $50 for the From the Ashes box set.

Ask questions. It's sucks to find out the box set you bought is missing 3 handouts. I once bought a lot that I thought was under priced. The reason I got a good deal was because most of the products had labels from a label maker stuck on them. If it looks too good to be true, it probably is.

Especially be patient if using online auction sites. When I was younger I would typically pay more than a mod was worth because I got frustrated and wanted to comple a set. Be flexible with your search terms, too.

This thread has made me want to refocus more on collecting 1st ed items like I used to. Thanks, guys

To be clear to the OP, my posts deal with e-baying primarily. A good way to get a start is to go to the Acaeum Classified forum and post the items and conditions your interested in. If your interested in used but readable copies of most standard products, you may be surprised how many of those guys have dupes laying around. Most are more than happy to put them into the hands of a collector instead of a dealer.

Ask questions. It's sucks to find out the box set you bought is missing 3 handouts.

this is true but sometimes even after asking about the completeness of an item it could still be incomplete when you receive it. this happened to me on a box set.

I ended up having to go through paypal to get a refund and after multiple emails to the seller asking if he wanted the incomplete box set back I received no reply.

Thanks, realmaster. Let's split up!!!!!

About 6 hours from me. A bit too far to go but I will check out his ebay store.

The details of my life are quite inconsequential... very well, where do I begin? My father was a relentlessly self-improving boulangerie owner and RPG designer from Belgium with low grade narcolepsy and a penchant for buggery. My mother was a fifteen year old French prostitute and RPGA certified DM named Chloe with webbed feet. My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark and THAC0. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. My childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons, D&D every night. In the spring we'd make meat helmets for LARP. When I was insolent I was placed in a burlap bag, forced to walk the walk of a thousand four siders, and beaten with reeds- pretty standard really. At the age of twelve I received my first scribe, which was very handy for D&D. At the age of fourteen a Zoroastrian named Vilma ritualistically shaved my testicles for LARP. There really is nothing like a shorn scrotum... it's breathtaking- I highly suggest you try it.

I don't know if other Cons have one, but there was a huge Auction at Origins, with also lots of pre-priced Stuff. I picked up a bunch of 1e modules for $2-3 and Snagged a near mint Red Steel boxed set for $7. Great timing....my old Red Steel box is quickly approaching falling apart.

In the constellation of Cygnus, or Central Connecticut

mmmmmm, Red Steel box set. Always loved that supplement.

I know GenCon has one. I bid on a few things, but they always went a bit above my price level (KODT1-4, for example.)

What did those sell for?  I have those signed by Jolly.

You know, I keep thinking that after the new design team gets done with D&D 4e, D&D won't stand for Dungeons and Dragons anymore, because well, that's just not fun. It's old and stuffy. - Originally Posted by BabWryter on Kenzerco.com

Used book stores, and the used sections in gaming stores are your friend then.

I picked up quite a few vintage RPG books from Pandemonium and Victor Hugos over the years.

I bought #1 on e-bay for $210 about 4 or 5 years ago.  I'm glad to see that it still sells well.
