| As a druid, you'll eventually be able to transform into various other forms. As a DM, I find it very time-consuming for the druid in my campaign to say "I'm turning into a troll" only for him to spend the next five minutes flipping through various books to see exactly what turning into a troll means. I recommend that you out together a list of forms that you'll likely wildshape into, and then record their pertinent stats on a series of index cards. That way, when you wildshape into something, you've already got your new stats (including attacks, extraordinary abilities, etc.).
Also, as a spellcaster be prepared to augment the party's cleric as a healer. Druids also have a wide variety of buff spells available to them, so you'll often help get the party ready for up-coming combat. | | "Clearly a case of too many hunchbacks and not enough mad scientists..." | |

| Ultimately, building a character is about having fun. About a year ago our roleplaying group at the time included a girl playing her very first D&D character: a druid. She spent the entire campaign wildshaped either as a lemur (because they're cute) or as an ettin, which constantly attempted to flirt with the party's monk. Clearly, this player wasn't concerned with optimization, though she really enjoyed playing her character (even when the rest of us grew tired of the omnipresent lemur).
So, before you go read what a bunch of "serious" roleplayers on the official boards say, I'd recommend just sitting down and getting thoroughly familiar with the druid's entry in the PHB. Then figure out what you enjoy about the class and go from there. This is D&D--a game of the imagination. There is no right or wrong when it comes to how you play your character.

| As with the transformations, so with the summons of animals, especially if you have abilities that augment them. Summoning slows down the gae enough that the more you can minimize the better.
Druid is a very strong class, one that you can go straight for all 20 levels and be really powerful. The druid spell list is pretty solid, getting some spells earlier than anyone else (flame strike) and some that never lose their utility (entangle). It's a neat class. | | Completed trades: blackthorne, Drakkengi,Thorgrin, Ironfist Boulderbender x2, ckissee, nasamonkey, Username, Star, Ace13 x3, emontedodger x2, Drconveyor, church, Joeyb, Sir Bozak The Damned, Xeromod, the other guy x2, Qucalion of Celene, Dagaron x2, berus316, qillan_dvra, AshloreDarkShadow

| | Yeah, the druid class is a lot of fun. I've been dying to play a druid/master of many forms/warshaper for a long time now. | | "Clearly a case of too many hunchbacks and not enough mad scientists..." | |

Good advice. Just so you know what is common, people have done druids focused on summoning, beefing up their animal companion, melee focused while wild shaped, non-comat but spell focused, elemental themed, etc.
As said, have fun with it. Unlike what you might think straight off, you have a lot of choices and range in how you play. All druids are not the same.Â
