I've heard people talk about it, but am still not sure what it's all about. A free download is definitely a good enough reason to. Thanks for the heads up!!

Essentially, trued20 uses only a d20 for all the rolls, there is no other dice needed. I've only used it for Mutants and Masterminds, but it is an interesting mechanic. It's not standard d20 rules, so you have to approach character building and concepts a little differently, but it is a neat system.

Yeah. Cheap is good, free is better. No matter how much you like D&D, sometimes you need a palate cleanser.

Glad to help

Briefly, it's D20 modified to work without millions of classes, AoO's, iterative attacks and hitpoints, and few other simplifications. Damage may be a bit confusing in beginning, I'm thinking of simplifying it a bit myself... IMO this works better for different genres than D20. Thing that makes heroes above others are Conviction points, that allow (improved) rerolls (including damage saves), extra actions and other kind of stuff. Ever-increasing hitpoints have always been a problem to me, as falling from airplane & large bombs etc. become no real threat... Now damage is more dangerous but Conviction allows heroic deeds. Differences between levels are smaller, and all the special abilities from bard's inspire to ranger's favoured enemy are now feats, which you'll be getting 1/level.

If you can read enough & form your opinion fast, there's also other true20 products for cheaper. Bestiary is pretty much must for D&D -like playing, it has pretty much all the MM stuff in it converted into True20. Companion is pretty interesting reading about different types of genres and subgenres. I have those two now, and I'm thinking of purchasing Worlds of Adventure.

Btw, I'm putting together a material library for adventures, npc's etc for true20. Adventures & locations may of course fit well for D&D and other D20, but other content is for True20. Address is http://www.anttiweb.net/library/ , and anyone interested in contributing is welcome to join.

Keep missing it when it's available for free. Oh well.
