From hordelings, i found a thread on enworld here

Epic6

that relates to a D&D variant called E6 or Epic 6.

The gist of the variant is that all characters cap off at level 6, but otherwise the game is D&D 3.5 as we know it. After level 6, all characters gain a new feat at every 5000 XP.

Looks really interesting, enough that i think my next campaign will be based on this.

p.s.: would anyone be kind enough to tell me how to include a URL in a post? Thanks.

Interesting...

the URL is the Href code, IIRC. I ususally let a moderator come after me to do it, they're more than happy. I can never get it working properly.

Epic6 is an interesting concept, but after giving it a spin I'm not sold on it. Requires far too much preparation and is too limiting in terms of monster selection (without heavy modifications), prestige classes (flavor options), etc. Another problem is skewed capabilities. Eventually, both PCs and monsters will have more feats than they can realistically use. It's one of the key problems of playing a Thuerge-type: you have too much capacity and no means of increasing actions per round.

Our group has had better success capturing the low-magic/non-superhero-ish feel by simply spacing level-ups further apart (leveling based on time rather than XP).

Hmm...it could be interesting. As been said, it would probably take a lot of work to make encounters. My concerns are on one side the number of feats and on the other how "weak" (not the best term but the one that is popping into my mind) level 6 characters are even if the monsters don't have levels either. In essence, balance issues in encounters could be very problematic. I also think the intent and role of combat may be very frustrating to players over time.

Now, I like the idea of the system, and I'd be interesting to hear how it plays out.

It seems like encounters are going to be a problem in the long run...Our group plays characters for long periods of time. Several years often times. Im a big fan of high level play...

I remember playing Elves and Dwarves as a character class..
