Can a creature that's immune to paralysis still be stunned? I'm thinking yes but I'm not positive, just want to rid myself of that smidge of doubt that's bugging me.

Yes. For example, creatures with the dragon type are immune to paralysis but can be stunned. Just swat the dragon on its snout: it never expects that. Oozes, on the other hand, are immune to both paralysis and stunning. Nothing phases a puddle.

One thing that has helped me understand D20 rules is to keep in mind that the wording of text is very precise with its meaning. So pay attention to each word that is written and never make any assumptions. If it says "paralyze", they mean paralyze and nothing else.

I used to assume things like you're doing. "Well being stunned means that you are paralyzed for a moment, so it must be immune to stun, dazzed, and even helpless conditions because they are all forms of paralyzation!" That's incorrect...I didn't realize that there were rules for each of those effects and they all work differently [:p]

Check out the back of the PHB for the different type of conditions. You'll definitely see that each has a specific consequence like others have mentioned. It is especially important because of what someone can do in that condition.

That's what was giving me that little bit of doubt.

Thanks for the clarifications guys.

Another way to think about it is how each effect works.

Stun = Physical attack that disorients the creature (i.e. the swat on the dragon's nose, a hard uppercut to the jaw, etc).
Paralysis = Non-physical attack that dramatically effects the creature's nervous system (i.e. the poison from an insect's sting, the bile from an undead's bite, etc).

When dealing with magic effects, spells that Stun are typically sonic or visual. The flashing colors in Color Spray act as a momentary epileptic seizure. The sound from Sonic Burst leaves your ears ringing for a moment.
Spells that paralyze are more along the lines of Hold Person which has no visual or aural component (it's using magic to interrupt the nervous system).

This also helps sort out why creatures are immune to what they're immune to. Dragons have an extremely resilient nervous system but can still be swatted on the nose, startled by flashing colors, or disoriented by an explosion near their ears. Oozes don't have a nervous system and they don't have normal anatomy such as ear and eyes.
