My DM has just decided to bring back one of our slain party members as a Death Warlock.

We're playing 3rd edition and he says it's a 2nd edition thing that he came across. Just wondering if that sort of thing got converted over from second edition to 3rd.

If so could someone point us in the right direction for some stats on it.

Thanks.

John

Well he's got the character coming back with the undead template. Does the warlock have that? He says it's got a bit of a death knight feel to it, but it's some sort of template designed more for a straight spell caster to come back undead.

All I know is the DM says he has the template in 2nd edition and we were just wondering if those stats had been transfered over to 3rd edition yet.

Warlocks are better described as "creepy". Their power comes from pacts with demons, usually, in the past but it can be other sourced. Not really undead, though.

Nothing that I have heard of in the standard books matches what you are describing, though. Things that might work of the top of my head are the Pale Master Pclass (you aren't undead, but you gain undead traits over time) or the Necropolitan template. That latter works well for spellcasters, and has no level adjustment and is pretty reasonable. Both can be found in Libris Mortis, although check out if there is errata before using either.

Completed trades: blackthorne, Drakkengi,Thorgrin, Ironfist Boulderbender x2, ckissee, nasamonkey, Username, Star, Ace13 x3, emontedodger x2, Drconveyor, church, Joeyb, Sir Bozak The Damned, Xeromod, the other guy x2, Qucalion of Celene, Dagaron x2, berus316, qillan_dvra, AshloreDarkShadow

Could this Death Warlock be in the Complete Book of Necromancers?

I had never heard of this template either till the DM brought it up the other day. He didn't have the stats handy to show us and I forget what 2nd edition book he has them in. I just thought maybe someone on here had heard of it before and might be able to offer some 3rd edition stats to satisfy my curiousity. It's not even my character that's coming back this way, just curious that's all.

It's not a big deal if no one knows. I'm sure the DM will make something up to fit our campaign.

Could he have perhaps meant Deathlock? as in what a spellcaster over 3rd level comes back as when killed by a ghoul's energy drain? thats just off the top of my head, i could be totally wrong.

Deathlock....hmmmm.... maybe, tell me more about this one.

Can a deathlock continue advancing in spellcasting levels? If I recall from the minis it has the Undead template to it so that works.

Does the spellcaster necessarily become evil when he comes back as a Deathlock or does he retain his Alignment?

From what the DM told us so far the charcter was sent back by his God so I suppose in that case anything could be possible. The reason for sending the character back was because he had set something unbalanced in the realm before dying and the God is sending him back in this new form as a sort of punishment and will not allow the character to die properly and enter the next life till things have been set straight. How's that for incentive to follow through on a quest.
