| I bought it yesterday, have read 1st chapter now. A few type-o's stand out, but in all it appears to be a very well constructed source-book.
I like that they are not trying to be all-inclusive. The book focuses on specific parts where you will adventure during the campaign, but only gives general DM tips for other locations. Keeping the mystery alive.
Haven't reached the actual adventure yet (starts in chapter 2). I hope the story is ok, otherwise i'll have to devise one of my own and will use it as a resource book only. What I've seen so far it is a very good book to use for basic undermountain lore at least.
I do advise those playing this campaign in the Realms to buy City of Splendors as well. Always nice to show the players the larger picture.

D. They could never be all-inclusive when each undermountain level contains hundreds of rooms. Be prepared to fill many rooms yourself... Not a problem, but undermountain is definitely for a creative DM with a bit of time on his hands. If you haven't got them, I strongly advise you to get the two second-edition ruins of undermountain boxed sets, especially the first one if you're beginning the adventure (and BTW it's far better than the second set). At least get the PDFs. There is also a few fan-made rooms of the first level on wizards site (I don't recall the URL exactly, but it shouldn't be a problem to find it) which can be useful as fillers, too (these are 3rd-ed, so no conversion to do). And while I'm at it, get the second-edition skullport book (skullport is an underground town on the third level). It's one of the best product TSR ever made.

@DF: Urm.. thanks, but wrong expedition. You're linking to the Demonweb pits.
@Pasquall: Sounds like a decent plan, I'll check if i can get my hands on some PDF or other, because the Cash Flow is a bit limited at the time of typing.

If you want to check it for completeness this should be helpful.

| Good link to check. Paizo sells the PDF for 4$ (I suppose you can find it somewhere else, but it's the usual price for a PDF) On the wizards website, check this : http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ru/20050309a Contains a lengthy intro summing up the basics of undermountain (adapted to 3E), and a downloadable map of the first level - beware : large size pics . Just a warning : as I only browsed the expedition to undermountain book, I cannot be sure that the 2 products are 100% compatible. Seems to me that the maps for the 1st level are the same though. In the boxed set some rooms are detailed, it should be useful to have them to flesh the dungeon (I suppose WotC didn't use the same rooms and descriptions, hopefully...) You'll have a bit of conversion and organizing to do. However it looks that a good part of the info there is in the box set is present (and updated) in the expedition book. So if you're really tight on money, get the PDF and see if it's worth getting the real boxed set. I know I love having the 75cm/55 cm poster maps, and the random traps/treasure cards can be incredibly useful, but that's just my opinion. Hope it helps. | | Vindicated Champion of the PSEUDODRAGON (Unhappy) vindicated champion of the DRYAD Against the giants called shot : huge cloud giant female Demonweb called shot : ghost | |
