I am going to be playing in a homebrew D&D game and the setting is modeled after bronze age Greece and Rome. Can anybody recommend a suitable line of figures? Would prefer pewter to plastic and ideally 28mm so can be used with DDM and Dungeon Tiles.  Me and the other players are not having much luck on our own.

Have you tried dollar stores? They normally have cheaply-made toy soldiers of different types (wwII, cowboys & indians, etc)...

the aboe two beat me. Bronze Age Miniatures would be my personal preference, but choose as you will...

thanks for all the recommendations guys. The last two were sleepers for sure; wouldn't have found them if they hadn't been posted. One of the reasons why I really like maxminis. Cheers!

Hey thanks for the scoop! I think my local Toys R Us carries these figures. I will have to check them out in person.

has anyone used heroscape figures in their D&D games? Do the bases work in a 1 inch square?

If my shody excuse for a memory serves correctly, they are a bit bigger than DDM bases.  I don't think they fit into the squares all that easily.  Personaly I would not sweat it, a little overhang isn't too much an issue for me.

Yea the Heroscape figs have bases of about 1.33".  I wish they had gone with 1" myself, but oh well.  I would recommend picking up a Heroscape master set.  The terrain would work pretty well for D&D games.

In addition to the Roman Legion packs (3 archers and 4 sword/javelin soldiers) the hero pack for that wave (wave 1) also has a Roman Officer (Marcus Decimus Gallas).  Another wave (wave 5) has a pack with three Roman gladiators (this pack hasn't sold well and was being sold on Amazon pretty cheap recently).  Then wave 4 has a pack with 4 Macedonian soldiers and the hero pack has a Macedonian leader (actually its Parmenio who was one of Alexander the Great's generals).
