| So, in my noobits attempt at Java programming I've been working on a random RPG name generator. The code works, though I'm sure that there are probably more advanced programmers out there who would have done things differently. I've coded it as a Java Applet and will put it into my web site when I'm done.
So far, I've come up with names (first and last as well as male and female for all races) including Human, Elf, Dwarf, Gnome, Orc and Goblin (though some names have been the result of 1am brainstorming and as thus might be changed before I finally put it up live) but I'm having trouble with Kobold names. I figured that I would try making them sound somewhat snakelike, or reptilian sounding, but I thought I'd post and see what folks thoughts were on good Kobold names, or naming conventions.
I'm interested in thoughts on names that are a) reptilian, doglike, or even both ?Âb) including last names? or not? Âc) what types of names would kobolds have? Dwarves for instance are usually associated with mining or fighting so most folks make their names to reflect that - Orin Stonebreaker, or Bjorn Axeblade for example would be good Dwarf names...would kobolds have similar names or would made-up syllables be more effective? If they are associated with objects, what categories of objects would make good names for them? Âd) If made up names are good, what kinds of sounds would you most associate with kobolds?
Anyways, I'm interested in folks' thoughts about this. I've thought about simply taking kobolds off the list of names, but I'd prefer not to go that route if possible. Kobolds are just too classic to ignore.

Hi Dave,
That link was cool. Is there others for goblins, orcs, trolls, etc.?
Thanks,

| Thanks for the help everyone! I really appreciate the feedback. In the end, I went with about 50% made-up names and 50% Egyptian names. I stayed away from the more commonly known ones like Imhotep (though the thought of a Kobold named Imhotep was kinda funny) and used the ones that were more obscure and (to me) more draconic sounding.
The name generator is up and running, though I haven't had time to fully test it (translation: some of the name combos may be kinda dorky ) but work will continue and I'll be adding more names and eliminating some of the more silly ones eventually. I'm also planning on spicing up the GUI a bit, though adding things like background images and such are really a pain in Java so it may take me a while before I can get that far.
For those folks who are interested, my name generator is on my website here.
Thanks again for the input!
