| This may have been discussed previous, but I'm curious as to the age makeup of various gaming groups. Mine have (traditionally) been fairly close to my age (a few years up or down).
~15 years ago: everyone within 3yrs up or down
~12 years ago: 2 about 10yrs older than everyone else, the rest within 3 yrs
~10 years ago: most 2-5 years younger than me (joys of living in a university town)
~7 years ago: back to most within 3 years, with two 10yrs+ older and one 10 years younger
~3 years ago to present: one in his forties, one in his thirties, a couple twenty-somethings, and a 14yr old...
Overall, the best groups we had were 15yrs ago and 7 yrs ago... | | Shottglazz "Take my love, take my land, take me where I cannot stand; I don't care, I'm still free, you can't take the sky from me."

| Presently my group includes people that are all within about 5 years of each other, except one player who's, hmm, 12-15 years younger than the rest.

| High school and earlier = players were always within a year or so of each other. Post-high school to about 5 years ago = players were usually within 5 years of each other. Past 5 years = players are roughly 10 years apart. Ages range between 18 and 31. | | Knight Warlord a.k.a. Commander (#32) in only 6 months. Where's my pie? | | My play history is very much like what Shottglazz describes. In high school (around 20 years ago), we were all pretty close in age. Now, our play group ranges from the DM in his early 40's, to the youngest player in his mid 20's. | | Over 270 successful online DDM trades. | |

| I'm in two different D&D groups right now.
One is a normal sized group of four plus the DM, and all of us are 30-somethings. I know the oldest in that group is 38.
The other long running D&D group I'm in has eight players plus the DM, with a 15 year age span between the youngest player (24) to the oldest (39). Most of us are in our 30's though.

| One group is all in mid 30's, the other ranges from from early 20's to late 30's.
Most extreme age group range was when a mum was watching us play in shed, and had to join in as well - was a great player plus snack quailty jumped . That age range would of been late teens to mid 50's :) | | "Mutton yesterday, mutton today, and blimey, if it don't look like mutton again tomorrer." | My current group ranges in age from about 26 to 36. I have played in groups where the age range would have been from about 12-13 to 35-40. I would have been 16-17 at the time. In general I have enjoyed gaming the most with people around my age or older. | There are 5 of us in the group now, and we range from early 30s to late 40s.
When I first started, I was a freshman in high school (28 years ago), and I was the youngest of the group. The rest ranged 4 - 12 years older than I was. | My first group dates back to high school (1984) We were all around 16-17.
I'm the greybeard in my current group. Ages range from 39 (me) down to the mid 20s. It makes for some interesting dynamics. For instance, even though the group is a good bunch of people, the generation gap is becoming more and more pronounced. Because they are younger they tend to go for stuff that I no longer have any interest in. However, we all get along great. | | Ghendar - Now snark free!

LOL sounds familiar Ghendar - ours is 14 to 43 now, with me in the middle at 34...we have quite the generation gap, and it shows... | | Shottglazz "Take my love, take my land, take me where I cannot stand; I don't care, I'm still free, you can't take the sky from me."

| I notice that age matters a bit less than maturity "echelons"
For instance, I used to game with 2 friends of mine 3 years younger than me. It started out fine (19-16) then got odd (22-19) before I moved. Because from 19-22, I had done a lot of growing up that they hadn't from 16-19. Not that I would expect them to, but it made gaming... different. Whereas I game with a few older folks now, and we're all about the same place in life (family men) making it more compatible.

| LOL...
'My' group (main group that plays at home) consists of...
Me = 37 Player 1 - 21 Player 2 - 15 Player 3 - 13
Sometimes (very rarely) we have another 2 players, aged 23-24yrs.
Out of them all... the 13 & 15 yr olds are the better players!

| | I have five players that make up my main group now, with others that jump in and out. I’m the DM and just turned 40, my players are 14, 16, 18, 29, and 69 (father-in-law he rocks). I’ll be gaining a new player later this year when my youngest son turns ten. | | Big Daddy Rob | |
