| Technically, each player should receive a different amount of XP based on his/her personal level, and not the average level of the party. I just realized this after I had a close read through of the rules in the DMG recently (or online somewhere?). For the past 5 years, I've been awarding everybody the same amount of experience, regardless of level. Awarding each player different XP serves to minimize (over time) any discrepancies in levels. But then, I'm not sure I'll take the time to work out each person's XP as our group is used to doing it this way now.
And yes, it should be based on ECL, and not only class levels. | |

I had a dm that did this because we had a big variation of levels in a campaign. I think it worked out very well. | | Thanks, realmaster. Let's split up!!!!!

| | I use the personal XP version as well...like Kestrel said, it helps to smooth out level discrepancies... | | Shottglazz "Take my love, take my land, take me where I cannot stand; I don't care, I'm still free, you can't take the sky from me."
