| I was looking for a spell that holds a portcullis open.
Hold Portal only works to keep things closed Knock won't work on Portcullis (which does something different from holding open anyway) Levitate doesn't work because the portcullis in question probably weighs 2000 lbs and would need a 20th level caster
I looked at some others but couldn't find anything.
I would like something of 3rd level or below (though 4th might be ok, but not preferred)
I was looking in PHB and Spell Compendium, but would not limit it to to those books for this one spell.
Any help would be appreciated.

| How about telekinesis, a little high in level for what you were looking for though... Sor/Wiz 5 (max 375lbs at level 15).
Summon Earth Elemental, wedge at top? Unseen servant to hold the release? Arcane Lock will allow you to pass through the portcullis, so I'd imagine if you stood beneath it, it would stay open. If it's wooden, you could warp wood (druid). 0 level Stick, compendium, use to wedge rock in portcullis. Make a spell call it "Jam Portal", works like Hold Portal or "Suspend Object", but keeps things open - or "Greater Open/Close" like the zero level spell. Mage Hand, Greater (40lbs) could hold the wheel to stop it from closing... Portcullis has a DC25 STR check to lift (DMG pg62), then there's Bigby's Hands (Interposing or Forceful). | | Greyhaze's DDM Spoilers Champion of a Medium Dog & then a Darkenbeast , Raistlin Majere, Nightmare WDQ25/60, Warduke WD60/60, Anti-Champion of Guns, "Knight of Bugbears", and Joke Champion of Venger. | | Excellent. Thanks for the insights, greyhaze. I will be using warp wood, as there are wooden components of the portcullis. This should work nicely. | | "Look to God and live." Alma 37:47 Vindicated Champ of Hippogriff (Arcadian Hippogriff) and Uncommon Horse | |
