I am just starting a new star wars d20 campaign. I put which era up to a vote and they came up with the NJO era... which would have been my *LAST* choice.

The Vong invasion is just too pervasive and overwhelming. Especially if you dont have the time or inclination to read all the novels involved.

I may try to compromise with them and set the game around the time of the Dark Empire comics and just take the campaign off in whichever direction I choose and ignore anything from the novels and comics that I dont care for.

I would have preferred setting the campaign back in the KOTOR timeframe, or in the times just before Darth Bane... ah well...

I know what you mean. I read the first half of the Vong novels, and while they are a good read (mostly) I just couldn't keep up with it all. The information in sourcebooks is good too, but it all rotates around one conflict.

I'd rather take the source material and insert it into another era, in a more limited way.

the most success I ever had in a SW RPG was before Episode I or the NJO were options, I crafted my own future for the SW Universe, 20 years after RotJ. I could only do this again in future with players who have no interest in NJO.

I think any time before episode 4 is probably good, because you can have a PC force-user or two and not have to feel overly contrived about it, without getting into the foolishness that is NJO.

Exactly, time between episodes 3 and 4 is the best time unless you don't wish do add force-elements. Well, I don't know if all the Jedi are eliminated in Ep3, but in my sw-universe they are hunted for years.

That's what I'm thinking of leaning towards as well. there's so much potential for this period. I was thinking of starting mid clone wars, and eventually going through (if the movie supports such a storylin) the jedi extermination.

I'd hope that PC Jedi would survive it but find a way to hide out like Yoda and settle into a safe life. At least that would be the plan in the grand scheme of things from the Jedi side.

I'm starting all these notes, but have no idea if it'll ever see the gming table. hmm....

I have source books and no one around here plays it. I'd prefer Old Republic or between 3 and 4. I always wanted to play a Force character and figuring out how to hide from the "purge" would be a cool challenge if done right.

The only motivation for me to play in NJO is my Ewok Jedi. ^_^

Other than that, the ideal era is anywhere from EP1 to Pre-EP4.

Some of my friends are asking me to run an RotS Imperial/Fringe campain where they get to track down and execute the remaining Jedi. At last I'll have a use for those useless gits from CS and RoTS. [:D]

I'm not sure if I'd want to run a game where the characters wipe out the last vestiges of hope and good in the known universe. It kind lacks that heroic feel I go for in my games.

Besides you know they'll say something like, "Uh, why don't we check out some desert worlds? Or maybe a swamp or two, just in case."

I'm currently putting together a campaign set in the "Old Republic" era, about 1,300 years before The Phantom Menace. I'm hooked on the "Knights of the Old Republic" video games, but wanted to set the game a tad closer to the films. The campaign will start out on Tatooine, based at a "Jedi Enclave;" small frontier outposts that the Order established around the Outer Rim to deal with crime and a burgeoning Sith invasion. My players seem pretty excited; one is developing a Wookiee Jedi Weapon Master, which should prove to be interesting.

Oh, you'd want that, but players don't care what you want, they want to "accidentally"stumble across Obi-Wan and feel obliged to take down this "Ben" guy, just in case he might be a Jedi.

Not that any player would use personal knowledge for his character, but you know them pesky coincidences.

"Old Ben" was a jedi Guardian lvl 15 according to the first SWd20 sourcebook. I'm not sure how that changed in the subsequent editions, I have this "thing" where I only buy a book once, so i stick to the (I know very flawed) first book.

Well at Celebration 3 George Lucas said the TV series he has planned will take place between episodes 3 and 4.
And Amy Allen (the actress who playes Aayla Secura) was spoken to and she said her character is a canidate for the series.

So maybe the series is about the jedi on the run and being hunted...so your sw-universe may be what really happens.

In the Newest edition Ol' Ben is 15th level, a combination of 7levels of Jedi Guardian, 5 levels of Jedi Master and 3 levels of Jedi Investigator. Even as an old guys he's still pretty scary in hth combat, but then again my players would want to be shooting him I think.

I'm still on the fence about this adventure I'm developing, I have a grand story arc planned, all sorts of possible interests for the characters, lots of notes, but one descision to make, d20 or WEG.

I love d20, but I play it everyweek in the form of D&D, sometimes you need a change.

I play in a campaign set between eps 2 & 3. We are having a blast as the GM is very good and uses props and music from the films to enhance the scenes. The last session was probably the best as we were trapped on aplanet that as being invaded by the speratist forces. We had to get some very important Republic dignataries out of harms way while at the same time giving the invading forces a hard time. We had been plagued by assassin droids and evil force users up to this point. During the running battle with us in civilian air-limos a couple of droid fighters attacked. My Wookie Jedi Guardian lept fromt he speeding limo unto the droid fighter and smashed the control circuits! I rode the crippled fighter to the group using 2 Force points to accomplish all this and landed with minimal damage. One of the PCs commented on my 'suicidal' manuever. I said "I trusted to the Force. It will never let me down". GM awarded me a Force Point on the spot. That was only the first cool thing that happened too!

Really? I'm not aying it's better than d20, but I always felt that it was an excellent system. Different from the norm, but not overly complicated, with a variety of options for play as long as you ignored the "template" sections and just built your own.

If you knew Greekar you'd grow to love him. One of my favourite things is the fact only one person took Shrrywook (the Wookie language). So no one could understand me. I eventually got a voice box with some pre-recorded sayings in it. Well...I thought it was fun ;)

Once Greekar bites the dust I think I would try out an Ithorian Soldier.

Personally, I love Falleen. Looking like Xisor, and being all, calm cool and collected makes everyone think you're evil no matter what you do. My last cahracter was a Falleen Swoop Rider/Jedi. Used the old double lightsaber, pre-episode one. The first time I saw Darth Maul I had to check my head for the brain probes Lucas used to steal the idea.

Fallen are cool. SWRPG almost has too many races to play. It can be hard to make a decision sometimes.

True, but how better to properly portray what we see in the movies? Everytime Obi-Wan walks into a bar be it on Coruscant or Tattooine we see a crowd of people, each of a different race. I like to maintain that variety. So long as I have at least one (hopefully two) humans in a group, I'm good to go.

The diverse races of SWRPG are one of the neatest aspects of the game. I really like that none have level adjusts because it just lets players play what they like. I too like the KOTOR era, simply because you can have large numbers of Sith for your characters to kill. On an unrelated note, my "adjusting" of the SWRPG is taking on a life of its own, I'm up to 15 pages and have around 93 planned force powers. It's getting dense....

This hasn't been talked about, but how about After NJO?? This way you don't have that messy war to worry about, it's currently uncharted territory so your open to do what ever you want. Plus it won't be a problem for characters to be Jedi, unless you like the idea of them always being hunted.
The problem I see with between Eps 3-4 is that the outcome is pretty much determined. Boba Fett & Vader will find most of the Jedi in hiding, The Senate will fall, Alderaan will be destroyed...

True, but if you look particularly in the world of DH comics, after Jedi Luke was always finding Jedi, still in hiding, some not even knowing the emperoro and Vader were gone. So it would be plausible to play the game where the Jedi are hunted, and may, if they possess the cunning, never be caught.

I like the "character on the run" scenario, especially when they can still be the good guy.

Playing a party on the run is a great challenge, both for the PCs and the GM trying to catch them.

That's also the greatest danger: the GM resisting the urge to metagame them into being caught. IT can lead to a fairly adversarial play style. I'd never do it with my group, but that's the way we are.

It can be tricky, but I was a player once in a game that started around the time of the Battle of Hoth and went on to some time around the end of Jedi. the DM decided not to stay too true to the movies, so that we could do some "important" things too.

We did attract the attention of Vader, and being no where near the kind of power that you needed to be we spent a lot of time running away. It was excellent. This was before any prequels came out, I think the potential now for Jedi refugees is even better.

I gotta get this game together, I love just thinking about it!

Count me in. We'll need something to replace our conan game if it doesn't pan out. I'd really lean more towards the KOTOR timeline though. Placing it between Ep3 and Ep4 kind of opens it up for us to "interfere" with too many things from the official plotline (and placing it then just screams for us to try to interfere, in a completely non-on-purpose kind of way. :P)

"Who was that?"
"Who, the guy in the black armor with the breathing problems?"
"Yeah, I figured he would have been tougher. He looked scary enough."
"He still blocked most of my shots with that lightsword thing he had. Imagine if he had of had a decade or two to practice with it. That would have been scary."
"True. Anyway, lets check his pockets for cred sticks and get out of here."
