Hey! The darts didn't really slide off! I took like 10 damage from the 30 darts :) The vacume trap was really funny though. CR 9 right? I definately should have been a higher level.

True enough. Area A suffered from fiendishitis in a big way. Only a small handfull of different monster threats and all fiendish. I'm sure the party was sick of seeing yet another flock of fiendish darkmantles behind every door for a while.

Yep, I almost become fiendophobic, of course then we levelled a couple times, and then a fiendish darkmantle was nothing but a meal falling from heaven.

When can I have the fiendish template?

Even from first level straight through to fifth every other creature in WLD is fiendish. Dire and Half-dragon are in there too I'm sure, but even WLD doesn't throw that in at first level.

mind you I bet they would have by sixth.

And a brain eating mob of that size it urns out is more than a match for a 5th level warforged soulknife, a 5th level elven warmage, a 5th level halfling spirit shaman, a 4th level dwarven ranger (and his viper) and a 4th level human cleric of a time god.

Oh well, on to the next band of foolhardy adventurers. I was enjoying the warmage, but I think I'll enjoy the new character as well (a half-orc barbarian who wields a spiked chain, I wonder what fig I could use for that?)

I just hope that if we arrive in the same room with this party that we don't have to fight the ghoulish incarnation of the last party, though we probably will.

"TPK! Ugh!" That is a direct quote from one of my players after I read him the above quoted message. He then began trying to make preparations against whatever killed them (he doesn't know yet).

LOL, the look on his face was priceless; white enough to be undead! These type of posts sure instill the fear in a group of PCs! hehehe I can't wait to play on Saturday night!

Well, back at it again with a new (and maybe improved party). Man, is it just me or does the WLD love to put several rooms with 12 goblins in them one after the other? Battline one group alerts the next, repeat, repeat. The party spent the first 4 hours of the session just battling the endless groups of goblins, hobgoblins, and their lupine mounts. The best part of the night was when the new party ran into a foil of the last party and had to react as if they had no idea the NPC was a traitorous enemy. When this NPC betrayed the party later during a big fight with.....wait for it, 12 goblins, you could hear the gnashing of teeth (especially from B, whose character was killed by the NPC)and grumbles of, "I knew it. Dirty. Dirty...." What fun. Oh, and in a battle between a web spell and a half-orc chainfigther, the webs win.

I'm running this also. The party has been through about 6 sessions and have decided that no stone will be unturned and no room left unchecked. They are, therefore, still in region A, with only a brief incursion into Region E. Unfortunately 13 (N)PC's have been killed thus far...

I have beefed up some of the encounters by combining things when the group moves in on a faction and then retreats, only to return the next day. So the last time we played the party lost 2 of it's members to the darkmantels which had banded together against such an incursion.

The worst was fighting longtail, 3 rounds after the owlbear caught them in the hallway and dropped a few of them. The imp heard the fighting, went and told his master and they came over to see who was coming for diner...a few lightning bolts later and most of the party was below -10. They did manage to pull it off, however only 3 pc's survived out of 6 pcs and 3 npcs. Luckily they remembered to use the whip feather token... that pretty much took longtail out of the fight after only 2 rounds of spellcasting. And yes, the imp got away :) (Unfortunately he only got to torment the party 2 more times before they finally killed him off)

Overall, I would say that this product is well worth it.

Damn Darkfather, that looks awsome....

I just don't know if it would be worth all of the work for the rooms that the party spends approximately 30 seconds in before moving onward. How do you deal with setting up the dungeon when you are entering an area that you don't currently have set up?

I looked at Longtail as a party killer at their level and replaced him with a half-dragon kobold sorcerer named Brrnkyl and invented a Cult of the Slumbering Flame based around the gate and the fiendish creatures that came through it from time to time. The fight was still extremely challenging but far more rewarding than a 3 round slaughter that nobody would enjoy. A 7th level sorcerer would have been fine. Making him a wererat just added insult to injury. I've found I've had to tweak things slightly to fit my taste. On the other hand, the party has a newfound wariness of every door, chest, and item in the place as a lot of them have gone BOOM!!!! on them in one way or another.

My group finally killed the imp, but not before an NPC rogue/sorcerer had gone missing thanks to said imp. I wonder what they are gonna do if they can't find him...?

The first party that died in the WLD did not die in vain, so long as the Imp has not been resurrected to torment our new party.

It was very hard to not to bring Achsyxx back in some way. The clincher was that the new party just wouldn't have the same visceral reaction to the sound of flapping invisible wings as the first one did (especially your warmage, Lakhides)and the defeat of the little bugger is something the original group can lay claim to for all time (that and the fall of Brrnkyl the half-red dragon kobold sorcerer).

The sad part is, we're more proud of the death of an imp than that of a half-red dragon kobold sorcerer.

It is quite easy actually...

As the party moves further into the dungeon, the rooms are basically dismantled behind them, and the new ones assembled.

(It helps to have a party and a 'mapper' that understands my directions for placing the DF tiles.)

Thanks

Never dangle an icedragon in front of a half-orc chain fighter with delusions of grandeur. Finally entering into the wilderlands of Region F (well if the half-orc sticking his head into the doorway, seeing a pair of draconic heads and fleeing back out of the doorway is entering), the party just couldn't get over their excitment of facing such a challenge. Sneaking into the beasts lair, they managed to defeat it after a long struggle (8 ice breaths are nasty and the reflex DC is ridiculously high, turning the favoured soul into a tootsiepop) only to encounter its angry mate. Left alone to deal with it since the spellcasters had all but run out of spells defeating its twin, the cryo-hydra ate the half-orc whole, then ice breathed the astral deva character (don't ask) while the halfling rog/wiz and the elan psion fled. Another near total TPK for the WLD. Very nasty.

This thing is really starting to irritate me. My character died 2 weeks ago. Fine...it was tpk. I was killed again last week. Sure...bad rolls..lightning bolt....I can accept that. THREE WEEKS IN A FRICKIN ROW IS TOO MUCH!

I hate this thing.

My party has also lost another comrade. An NPC spellcaster was killed instantly by a goblin spear last week. A critical hit, followed by a critical to confirm, which of course followed a third hit. At least he managed to get his lesser fireball spell off before is demise.

The goblins were routed in short order thereafter, but Kaldreth's bones will forever lie entombed in section B. [:(]

The party hath lost another comrade...The paladin fell in battle with the undead horde which were freed from their tombs in area B. Fortunely or not (depending on how you see it) events transpired somewhat differently than I had planned and he was the recipient of a reincarnation spell.

Question: I have decided against rolling on the spell's chart to see what he would return as...instead I shall pick his new form. Any suggestions...?

Fiendish Darkmantle?

Or perhaps an orc? There are a number of orcs or similar type humanoids in the dungeon. The paladin can struggle against the nature of the new monstrous race, and be even more useful in "diplomatic" relations.

So ... question of the hour ... is it worth the price of admission? Is it something that has enough of it's own communities, etc. to play an entire campaign, or will it be lacking in that area? Should I spend the $70 and buy the beast?

It may be better to wait and pick up a 2nd hand copy to be honest. It's well done as dungeoncrawls go, but it's hard to say how far any group of players will go through it, particularly if you like the roleplaying aspect of an RPG, casue that is in short supply in WLD.

It certainly is fun as far as dungeon crawling goes though.

Oh yeah....I had read the first page, but after I've visited a thread as many times as i ahve this one you start to forget which campaign is which. There is after all what? Four different campaigns discussed here?

Yeah, if Sid, B, and company had of been 8th level, they would have won that fight hands down. Even at 5th level, they had the undead on the ropes for a bit and really whittled down their numbers.

Well I started today's session with a death priest. He died in the first encounter of the night. So, using the Savage Species I made a 5th level hound archon. He got eaten by a gelatinous cube. Most of the party got killed in between those two encounters by a cockatrice, but the cube got all the replacements.

Next week introduces 1 of 6, 2 of 6, 3 of 6, 4 of 6, 5 of 6, and 6 of 6. A band of warforged. We'll see how well that goes.[)]

Ah-Ha, not a single player death tonight! Our "all-Warforged" party runs, if you'll excuse the similie, like a well oiled machine. It was a most satisfying session that saw us through several tough encounters, at least one of which we knew would have caused a TPK for any of our other parties.
