| There are a variety of strong mathematical ways to play a melee non-jedi. It has happened many times in our various campaigns. Nothing will ever totally equal Jedi lightsaber without house rules to balance, but all these options are something to think about.
Martial Artist: Done right these guys can have an insane crit range. Especially if you play an Anx (race). 15-20 crit range is nothing to ignore when the guy does 3d6+6. Race natural martial DC 18-20 with MA. Add two MA feat and improved crit, 15-20. Large creature with 3 MA feats 3d6. Str 16 +3 dmg. Mastercrafted+1 combat gloves +3 melee dmg. That mean this guy has a 30% chance of on average doing 16.5 wound points on each attack. Get enough levels to do 4 or 5 attacks. That jedi better win initiative...
Force Warrior: Not sure if you count this as a Jedi, but 4 levels FA, 3 levels soldier and Force Warrior the rest of the way can easily produce a martial artist who does 3d4+2d6+6(+enhance ability+power attack) with 4+ attacks and a superior crit range. This option can actually surpass Jedi if you really know your min/max stuff.
Duelist: The duelist class can actually provide a tough sword guy. The extra damage on some attacks and the increased defense with your INT bonus makes you monster tough. I've used several NPCs this way who the party could just not seem to put down with a crazy defense. Weapon Finese, high Dex, Enhance ABility Dex, Int modifier to defense and then Combat Experpertise. Can you say 40+ defense?
4 armed race: play a race with 4 arms and use small weapons. All those extra attacks can make you nasty. Especially if you are force sensitive and use enhance ability to increase your to hit and damage. NOTE: This option combined with Duelist can be quite nasty.
The Bounty Hunter melee guy: This option only really works if someone else in the party is a melee combatant. But remember you get to add sneak attack to melee damage when you flank an opponent. We had one PC with a follower: Body Guard/Bounty Hunter from a 4 armed race. The PC was melee and when his Body Guard flanked an opponent his body guard would easily do 80+ points in a round. A good round was 100+ points of dmg, and with that many attacks a crit was inevitable.
Hope this helps you find something that you want to play. | | | |

| | I think the way my GM did it in a couple games, was to have the player spend a force point to turn a lethal hit into a crippling one instead. I think 100% of all hits converted ended up being lost limbs, it's just thematicaly appropriate that way.[:)] | | Pathetic Earthlings. | That's how we did it in d6. If you are lethally wounded you can use reduce injury, and a force point, and it only maims you [B)] Our GM basically decided what happened.
Oh yeah...all of the injuries that Sid mentioned were to my character. I think he hated him.... | | Do not go gentle into that good night, Old age should burn and rave at close of day; Rage, rage against the dying of the light.--Dylan Thomas

| I dropped into one game as a Guest NPC, the GM had me play a Imperial Inquisitor. I was lopping limbs left and right.... the character should have had the T-shirt "I roll 20's". [:D] http://www.thinkgeek.com/pennyarcade/swag/760d/ I'm not sure if would have been scarier than the spiky Dr. Doom suit he was wearing. | | Pathetic Earthlings. Actually that's not exactly true, similar such injuries seem to be inflicted on every jedi character in d6. The ability to avoid death pretty much garuntees that you'll need to use it. It's always amazing to me that no one else ever seems to need it so much. Every experianced Jedi I've seen played or run a game for except one had at least three such scars or injuries. I usually tried as a GM to hold off on chopping something off the first couple of times. We can't all be Luke and Vader. | | "We can't stop here...This Is Bat country!"
