Our group had a new member this week: the 3-week old baby of one of my players. She was awesome and we played for four hours without a hitch. Most of the time she slept, but otherwise one of us (all experienced fathers) held her. No dice rolling yet, but this is the earliest D&D indoctrination that I've ever heard of!

[Oneupsmanship]

My son had a plush D8 in his nursery crib at the hospital. Time from womb to dice: 3 hours.

[/oneupsmanship]

Seriously, though, 3 weeks is awesome.

That is so cool, Jeff. I'll let my players know! SGB

All of my groups for the past 10 years have been in the late 20's early 30's, one or two smoke but never at the game table or in someones home, when we take a break they would go outside for a smoke.
Drinking, not really during the game but since we usually finish about 11pm sometimes the group, or some of it anyway, goes out to the bars. Most of the time we snack on soda and chips or trail mix whatever anyone brings to the game.

A few years back our DM came in sat down and put a bottle of whiskey on the table and annouced " hello, I'm Sean and I'll be your drunk DM tonight".

Thats awesome!  How did the game go?  My players love when I get a buzz.  They know that it is time to try and sneak in a few things and hope that I may forget a spell effect or something!!!Â

When a big battle starts to happen they say,

"Hey John, want another brew?"

Heh, we were a mid to high level mostly Nuetral party involved on a quest on the planes of the abyss, operating out of Sigil, with odd demonic forces and creatures attacking and interacting with us throughout the night. lets just say as the night wore on the enounters got stranger and stranger at one point in a demon bar of some sort a creature with a severed human head on one hand, that he was using as a ventrioquist dummy, demanded we 'eat the worm' before he would give us the information we needed and that wasn't even the strangest thing to happen.

We play on Fri nights in my house. The average age of the group members is 30-35. Two of us have children, two others are just married. Usually we start the session at 22 and go up to 04 in the next morning. We take a break around 24 for food ratios (usually greek "souvlaki"). Pipes, cigarettes and cigars are allowed. I am a heavy smoker.

The game environment at my tabel right now is me, building warbands and decks alone, because my players can't be bothered to make their characters.

My game environment used to be no smokers or drinkers (all were 17 or 18, and I'm allergic to smoke). Three of the guys (including myself) had long hair, and because of this, one of the other players got forced out of the group because his parents "don't trust people who look like hippies." That always left a bad taste in my mouth.

The current game environment at my table is myself, a friend in Jersey, two friends in who-knows-where, a friend from here who's at college in Arizona, and another friend from here who is still here currently. We're all waiting for the launch of D&D Insider to get together and play some D&D.

That's awesome to hear. I think that DDI wil do a lot for helping people play that haven't seen each other in a while, and are distant.

I know I hope to reconnect with afew guys from my hometown, RPG-wise. We still visit on occasion, but this would be a blast.

I haven't gotten to play in almost a year, so I'm definitely excited to have that opportunity in just a week or two. I've been planning and planning and planning some more for it, and I'm definitely looking forward to playing the game.

Got another session of our long standing group coming up this weekend. For a number of years THE gaming place has been my house. I got the space, I got the minis, and I gots all the rules. Set up two side by side 8' banquet tables and spead out the Mondo Mat for PLENTY of gaming room.

We had up to 10 players for a while, but alas some of them moved away or grew up and went to college. (Kid of one of the players...) Oh, we have been playng D&D etc in all its glory since the Winter of 1975...at college...which if you do the math, puts many of us on the far side of 50 now....all you young uns....in your 30's...gheesh, back in my day we didn't have dice that came with numbers, you had to moosh a crayon into the grooves to get something you could read...and even then it would wear off in a session or two...

Current game group has 5 players and a DM. (In theory we have a 6th player, but it has been almost 5 months since he was able to make time to show up at the game. About once a month these days, starting at 1-2PM on either a Sat or Sun and going until late in the night, 11PM or so. Usually a break for dinner (pizza, thai, Chinesse, or sometimes a cookout in the summer, or something special some of the wives cook up... Only three of us have kids and none of them is currently playing (oldest is off at college) and the other two active kids perfer hanging out together and tying up some networked PCs for some gaming that way...

Our typcial campaign lasts for close to 3 real years a shot, although I was the DM for (two at once) that ran for about 7 years. (I had one group every Tuesday night, mostly from work that played from 6-7PM until 10-11ish and a second group of my friends (see above) that would gather about 1 a month to play in the same world. No one was in both groups. Both groups got world rumor sheets and about 1/2 the listings were actually the activities of the other gaming group. Near end game, I actualy got them together for some ulitimate battles to defeat the BBEG. The ruse lasted for about 4 years until various players got to talking at the annual superbowl party. The knew I ran for another group, but until then they did not realize that both groups were in the same world, and same region of the world. That was really kinda cool how it worked out.

Built the addition for this addiction, now on to the "gaming table" project....

First off, Zenako... You overshot my age by a little over a decade in your chiding of the young'uns.

Second... Very nice juggling with the two groups. I always love hearing about things like that, and someday I'd really like to try my own hand at it. Any tips?

No, it was supposed to be SW saga Edition. they'd be all over 4E, but now I don't have the time to DM with my upcoming travel and work schedules. After GenCon, we'll probably give it a go.

My current gaming group keeps growing no matter how hard I try to keep it down. Last game had 11 players (inc. 2 real females!) with me trying to DM and keep everyone involved. (almost impossible) Seriously, there must be a severe lack of GM's out there. I've had to turn down 3 people in the last 6 months. I have too many as it is.

Ages range from 16 (brother of one of the players) to 54 (my brother). Average age is mid 30's. Usually get together around 4pm, 2nd and 4th Sat. Cook food or order out. Usually a good selection of beer and wine, though we've discovered something called Blood Mead, which is really yummy.
No smokers....anymore!

Been running this campaign for 3 years now.

I agree, Bert, there's a lot of good stuff there, and it's pretty easy to keep in check, power-wise.
