| quote: I'm in as a maybe, depending on the day/time of the event.
Date/Time have been set: Saturday at 7:30ish
quote: Let me see if I understand the format.
Bring two boosters with you from the listed sets. And bring a item to be added to the prize pool. From there I get a bit unclear. Is it draft or sealed? In either case do all the boosters get tossed into a pile and have them redistributed amongst the participants?
A $6 dollar participation fee will be required in order for the event to run at WF (does not seem to be an issue for anyone)
Do I have the gist of the event correct and can anyone fill in some of the blanks I missed about format?
Yes: You use your own boosters, but it IS a Draft event. WotC doesn't currently run pure draft events, and it was decided at GenCOn 04, that this would be a great format to us. 99% of people find Draft to be fun and challenging!
As for prizes: Bring WHATEVER! I'll try to find some pictures of the prizes from GenCon 05. They included Books (I grabbed Gary Gygax's "Roleplaying Mastery"!), exotic beer's imported from the north, WotC Repaints, Custom repaints, boosters, tiles, Random rares etc. etc.
The focus is on FUN, not on the prizes, but there is no doubt that the prizes can be great! (The WotC folks kicked in a booster a piece from Harbinger....)

| BFZ: If you read through, you'll see that we wanted to have the event Friday, as we know that anyone who is at WF for LG is NOT going to be available because of the Open Fiesta. Unfortunatley, because of the nature of the event, we need to run it through official channels, and the only slot they say is available is Saturday night... [:(]
I'll at least looking forward to seeing you at the con!

You should definately plan on coming! The MaxMini's event is a sealed event, and the first Wardrums Prerelease is Saturday as well. You obviously won't need your collection for either one.
Unfortunately Vintage is sold out...

FYI: This thread is really focused on the MaxMini's Tournament AT Winter Fantasy. You should probably head on over to the tournaments Board.
That said, I don't think they've definatively stated what format any of the tournaments will be. I think there is rampant belief that WotC will provide us with a Map for use with our 2 boosters of Underdark in League play. 8 figures is up in the air. I suspect the rules will have been posted online by the time WF happens, but will they be in force?

| Put me down as confirmed. $6 - no problem, that is a pitiful amount considering how much I am spending to get there and stay overnight for three nights.
Can we begin discussion on a format? Maps or tiles? Eight or twelve figures? How will we form pods and how do we pair up? I vote for 8 figures and each player brings a map but it doesn't really matter to me.
I vote to leave it unsanctioned so the WoTC guys can join us. | Well, 8 figures worked well at GenCon, and we'll pretty much ALL bet set for those rules. Maps: Yep, I think so.
Striderlotr and I have been talking a bit about the organization, we will probably have an index card for each player, and we can shuffle them together and take out sets of 4 for pairings, and then organize/keep track of who people have played and results so that we get everyone paired up quickly the next round.
SO:
200 pts Legal Sets: Archfiends, GoL, DK, Angelfire, Underdark, War Drums (Hey, you never know what Shoe might bring!) Format: Assault 8 figures Unsanctioned Maps
Anyone see any need to disagree?

We draft in pods of 4 normally. One person opens a booster, picks a mini and passes left, that person picks and passes left and then that person picks twice and passes right. So the person that opens the booster gets first pick and last pick from the booster. You then go left and do the same. The 4th person opens both of their boosters in a row and goes back right til the 1st person opens their last booster. In draft unlike sealed it isnt a free for all on aligment, you have to pick an axis- so you can be good, evil, lawful, or chaotic. Its a ton of fun and can be tough. For example I was trying to draft chaotic last year and had a wand expert and some decent stuff, but hadnt pulled a commander, finally I saw an urthok and jumped on it abandoning chaotic for either evil (since I had CE), then about 3 boosters later after Im set in evil and well past getting enough points to do chaotic, a yuan-ti abom gets dumped, there would have been my chaotic commander. So I ended up with a subpar evil band as opposed to a pretty nice chaotic. | | Im out- find me on Hordelings if you want to chat. | |

| Copies? Did somebody say copies?
I can print copies of how ever many you want within reason. As long as the map is a PDF I can print it out on our plotter here at the school where I work. I just need to buy a roll of paper which costs me $20 bucks. Any unused paper I give to the teacher to offset the cost of ink. I might be able to laminate them too for free. I can probably do about 20 copies. | I say we design our own map... something wacky. Well, not too wacky, but something definately done in the name of fun. It's a lighthearted, casual event after all. I mean, if people are going to be using Gibbering Mouthers and Fiendish Dire Weasels, the map ought to reflect that spirit. [:p]
Can we design the inside of the skirmish hall? How about a replica map of DDM R&D's new workspace? How about Rob H.'s new backyard?
Or better yet *gasp* an outdoor map. What a concept!
Maybe we should hold a contest or something. Design the map. The more funner, the more better. [:D] | | POST DISCLAIMER: Above post may contain humor. Now with micro scrubbing bubbles. Hey, this is interesting! I could definatley see the GenCon hall getting converted to a Map. Lots of difficult terrain, the Wotc HQ and WizKids HQ could be Victory Area's, some pits would be along the back where the escalator's are...

| The maps look really cool! Thanks for doing all that work. My friends and I printed some out. The forgotten Catacomb comes out really dark and isn't a good choice for this tournament.
I think the one with the trees is too confusing rule wise to make this tournament run smoothly. So I would vote against using that one. The Icy Chasm looks really cool but I haven't printed it out yet. It has an interesting idea in that the start areas are on the long sides. The LOS directly across is a concern but might be doable for this tournament as Fireballers will appear at random and aren't as efficient anyway.

| I vote for the Icy Chasm.
A map of the gaming hall is of little appeal to me. It loses the flavor of D&D and makes it feel too modern for my tastes.
I was thinking of what to do with all the maps after I am done. I don't think I'll be able to laminate 20 copies. I could possibly get five of them laminated and throw some of those in to the prize pool. The other non laminated ones I'll just print out on one sheet in color, which still looks nice by the way. I was thinking of selling some of those off at a minimal price ($1 or $2 each) to give to the teacher to pay for the ink.

Include me in paying for some of the ink, a couple of bucks is no problem. And Brian, it would only be a preposterous predicament if we print the maps and no one wants to play on them. So can we get a vote as to the map. | Well so far it's not official yet but if people really like the Icy Chasm I can sumbit that. The thin ice terrain is easily understood but could use some clarification so it's certain where it is on the map. It's an odd map to play on because first round combat is not uncommon which is great for speed 4 figures but it is also tough to get VPs without a very fast figure. Plus I could make at least two more before the end of this month. I'll have to decide what I prefer for submitting. I can easily lighten the Forgotten Catacomb too. When I printed mine I tweaked the brightness on the printer so it's easier to see. Icy Chasm is very easy to see since it's mostly white. Means less ink used too. [:p] Oh and FYI the tree terrain was Zippy's idea, I just borrowed it from his King of the Hill map. If I knew what the DDM R&D's new workspace looked like I might throw that together. Same with Rob H's backyard. I also have a couple outdoor maps that are partially started. I'll figure it out.
