Well it is here the first day of the league was a success. we had 7 people out, would have been 8 but sadly mike had to work. if it hadn't been so cold the number would have been even higher i am sure. so here is something for you all to think about. as the commissioner(sp?) of the league i have decided for the sake of some people that got some really bad pulls and as there are only 6 events this time around, that you will be able to purchase a new booster before each event. again there is still the 16 figure limit to your pool but you can swap out minis from the pool for new minis. this will be told to the rest of the players who don't come on here when i or scott see them next. now for the important stuff the results and standings after week #1: Tom Quinton - 9 points Jay Vermeylen - 7 points Chris Love - 6 points Nico Van Kats - 6 points Andrew Bailer - 5 points Jeff Cummer - 5 points Scott Tackaberry - 4 points for those of you who missed the week there is still time to make up the points, if you join the league late you will get 1 point for each game that was played while you were not there. so that is isn't a runaway and you still have a great chance and making it rich. See you all thursday january 25th for week 2, let the rumble continue.

That's, um, somewhat difficult to read thanks to the awesomeness that is the forum.

Wouldn't it be simpler just to stick it in a spreadsheet and host it on the gameknight website?

Go to this site, http://www.fiddlertool.com/useragent.aspx and install the regigistry file you get by clicking on the IE 6 link.

It makes IE7 pretend to be IE 6 and fixes all kinds of problems including the one here with the editing window.

You can revert back with the IE 7 link on the above page.

Next time we do league can it be an Eternal Campaign? The reason I didn't join this was because of money. It's just to darn expensive for me. I'm guessing there are 4 league tournies in total correct? (Two per month before Unhallowed release) So if each booster is priced at 13.99 x 3 boosters= $41.97 x tax (1.13)= $47.43
Then if each tourny is $6 x 4 league tournaments= $24
$24 + $47.43= $71.43
I quit my job a while ago so $70 for roughly 12 games in 2 months not counting extra saturday and Thursday tournies (Extra $5 each) is a bit too much for me.

If it was $6 for each game as an Eternal Campaign, that's different.
$6 x 4 tournies= $24 between 2 months.

That's a difference of $47 for roughly the same prize in the end.
Just my 2 cents.

You only need to buy two boosters at the start. Other boosters are an option, not a necessity.

And FYI, you can still show up and play league players. There is still prize support for each nightly event, as a regular game. Only league players will collect league points and qualify for league prizes.

So how do you put paragraphs in this dang thing? I liked the old Maxminis better. It was easier to put in links, pictures, and stuff.

Well my band is improved considerably. But I still think my new team name should be "The Underdogs".

Actually, with my pair of Maugs it should be "The UnderMaugs"!

So once this League has run it's course I've been thinking what to do next time to make it different and fun. Here's what I'm thinking.

We should go a little more formal and sports like and have scheduled match-ups. Essentially each player would play every other player at least twice over the course of the league, possibly more if enrollment merits it. The League would meet officialy 1 Saturday a month, but league games could occur between players at Game Knight any time other tornaments are being run.

Basicaly Player A would meet Player B and play him twice over the course of the league, could be on the same day or two months apart. The same thing for player C D E etc...

If there enough players we'd devide into two divisions, with each player having 3 or 4 games against the other players in their division.

I'm thinking we'd go with my original idea for each player to register a map at the start of the league as their home stadium, no duplicates if possible.

Instead of buying 2 boosters at the start of this league and adding new ones as we go along I'm thinking of a different format this time. A little draft action.

Prior to the start of the league existing released minis would be divided into 4 categories (Commanders, Hitter, Tech/Support, and Fodder). Enrolled players will be assigned a random draft order and have an opertunity to select a mini from those categories until they have one of each. Those 4 minis will form the core of your warband through out the whole league. I'm thinking that those 4 minis won't be allowed to exceed 100 points, although that might be too restrictive. Perhaps 125.

Each official League Saturday (1 per month) the rest of your 200 point Warband will be made up of the contents of a single booster you purchase then. All games played until the next Saturday session will use those minis plus those from your drafted core to build your best 200 point Warband. You can use any combination of minis from your core and the booster and exceed the 8 figure limit as well in getting to 200 points.

Once all the regular season games have been played the top players will move on to a playoff round on a future Saturday where the League's champion will be crowned.

Let me know what you all think.

That sounds intresting Mike, but I think that buying a booster every league day could discourage the younger players with lower/no income.

How about something like this:

1st Day is the draft Everyone contributes 2 boosters.

Draft order is randomly ditermined.

All boosters are opened and the cards laid out.

Players pick 1 a mini at a time in draft order and then the reverse order until all are drafted.
Probably following the Draft rules where you stick to 1 faction axis.  We could still do the 4 core figures that have to be part of your band for all games too after the draft is done.

Trades are alowed but only 1 trade per League day and not the 4 core minis.

Depending on how long the league goes there could be additional drafts once a month with each player buying 1 booster, and swaping out so they keep to a 16 figure limit.

Sorry I wasn't clear there. A booster would only need to be purchased once per month on the Official League Saturday and that booster lasts you throughout the entire month until the next Official League Saturday.

I've amended my first post to reflect that.

Essentialy I'm thinking other league games could be played on Saturdays after the regular tournament or before, essentialy whenever two League members can meet and agree to throw down.

The Draft idea is good, I've always enjoyed the Draft format myself.

The one potential problem I see is getting everyone interested in playing in the League together on that first given Saturday, adding new players in later on would be tough.

I was thinking the drafting of the core bands could occur at least partialy online or maybe through email. I suppose that could work for drafting boosters as well. Although a lot of the fun of draft is opening the boosters.

Yeah thats true, we would have to get everyone all together for the intitial draft.  I guess we could come up with something if someone wanted to join later.

One other League idea I'm toying with is a Ladder format.

The goal, to climb your way to the top and stay there. The only way to advance is to beat a player seated above you. Might be a tricky format to pull off.

I'm thinking the first session would be a play in tournament to give everyone their initial ranking. From there we could run additional sessions like regular tournaments but instead of using dicing off to determine first round opponents we base it on the ladder rankings.

Prizes could be awarded for most time in first spot, finishing the league in first, that kind of thing. It's a thought anyway.

More Ladder League thoughts.

Games would be the standard 200 constructed assaults. Once the play in tournament is finished and the entrants are seated 1-X player's would be assigned a Ladder point total. 1st place gets 100 points to start and each rank below gets 5 less (2nd gets 95, 3rd gets 90, 4th 85 etc....).

The only way to advance up on the ladder is to beat an opponent ranked higher than you. Beating the person one level above you rewards you with 10 points and for each additional rank above one 5 additional points are awarded. Conversely points are taken away for losing to an opponent ranked lower than you in the same fashion.

No points are gained from beating an opponent ranked lower than you, nor do you lost points for a lose to someone ranked higher than yourself. Byes don't gain or lose points as well.

If a player misses a league session they lose 20 of their league points.

After each round of a Ladder tournament player's are re-ranked based on their current totals. The next round matchups pair players with wins together, matching those closest ranked in the standings as possible. The same for the losers. The same thing for round three, matching 2-0's 1-1's and 0-2's together using the Ladder rankings as tie breakers when necessary.

New players could be added into the league at any point, joining at the lowest ranking with 5 points less than the player above them.

Let me know what you think of this format.

Six people out. Me, Jay, Tom, Jeff, Scott, and Chris V.

I went 3-0, defeating Tom, Scott, and Jay. I played the same warband as I had the last time I was out, didn't buy a new booster, I think I've got plenty of blood war. I think the current standings are something like:

Richard - 30
Jay and Tom - 26
Jeff - 25
etc.

Hello,

I have not formed a full opinion on all of the other league formats presented here.  I do think we have one problem with any format other than a (mildly) tweaked version of what we have.

That is, how do you accommodate anyone who joins after the first session?  With draft, you can't re-draft everyone else after the start.

Now, if we want to formalize things with a ladder, I can go with that.  I still think it needs to be sealed whenever you buy in with two boosters.

As another option, we could look at fee levels and open a booster (or buy as booster) as a side board which is drafted in pods at the start of each league session?  Not sure how we would make it work.

Cheers

Sealed works but the problem is you really do have to keep buying boosters to stay competative unless you get really lucky. That can be expensive for the younger crowd as fun as it is.

The ladder format works for introducing late players into the league, if at a disadavntage. That being said I did a few tests of how that format would play out and even if you're at the bottom with skilled play and wins you can move into top place within 2 weeks.

One option I did consider is having Warbands semi-set for each player. For the play in tournament and the following week players would have to play the same warband. In following weeks if your ranking in the ladder remained the same or you moved up you must continue to play the same warband. On the other hand if you moved down in the rankings that week you are allowed to change your warband for the following league session.

Hello,

I thought that I would bump this thread up and revive it.

Also, I will not be able to attend League this Saturday afterall.  Just was offered a job interview, so that kind of takes priority.

Good luck to everyone who makes it out.
