| So here we go again, time for another D&D campaign. Can a brother get a Booyah! As mentioned before the campaign will take place in the Forgotten Realms and to be specific in the Dalelands. Well at least we will be beginning in Shadowdale, who knows where the winds of adventure will take you from there. As is the case in all my campaign we will be beginning at 1st level. That’s where the action is at. Stats are 5d6 in ordered as rolled with one re-roll taking the new result, of course most of you already know that and have your stats. Most Forgotten Realms races are available up to a +1 level adjustment, ask if you have something unusual in mind. Although this campaign will be starting in the Dalelands your characters don’t have to be from there. The Forgotten Realms is a vast place with many divergent cultures, if you have a particular style or background in mind for your character run it by me and I’ll help you pick just the right place. Here’s a good Map of the Realms to give you an idea of the lay of the land. http://www.imgsolutions.it/7sigilli/download/faerun_map.jpg
And here’s a map of the Dalelands.
http://www.questing.org/images/Dalelands.jpg
The Bonus Round! I like to give out some extra incentives to promote a detailed and well thought out character. Campaigns are always more fun when the player’s have a lot invested into their character and the game itself. As such here are the ways you can pimp out your character by putting in a little prep work before we start playing. Get Out of Death Free Card: An incentive I’ve used before, this time there will be a different twist. To earn the card all you have to do is paint up a nice metal miniature, http://reapermini.com has the best metal minis out there. I’m sure a certain Beer Baron would be happy to sell you one. This is how the card works, at any point you go into negative hit points no matter how far you can instantly redeem the card to miraculously be at 1 HP. And as a special bonus this time….. the card refreshes! That’s right, every time you level up if you’ve used your card you get a new one. That’s a whole lotta death dodging for painting up one little mini. Background: To be a truly well rounded character you have to have a sense of who he is and where he comes from. I’ll be more than happy to provide some background information for you and give some suggestions. With that in mind I would like each player to either post or email me a write up on their background. A paragraph would be nice but feel to go into as much detail as you like, the more the better. With that in mind here’s what a good character background will earn you. Proper attention to what your character did before becoming an adventurer will net your character a bonus 4 skill points to be assigned by myself into skills that are appropriate to your background. And secondly each player who submits a background will receive a unique starting magic item. The better the background, the better the item. With that in mind if anyone has some questions on the character generation process feel free to write and let me know. So far we have: Nico – Human Paladin Chris Love – Human Cleric of Lathander Fancy Driver Tackaberry – Human Rogue Rob – Wood Elf Fighter Sleepy Piggie Bachynski– Sun Elf Wizard Sleepy Rooster Smythe- Genasi or Elf Swordsage Dirty Wheel Peterson - Rock Gnome Bard
I think we'll go with the 7 we have now and see where it takes us. Updated March 8th And so we begin….. We will be starting things off in the year 1372 DR, The Year of Wild Magic. The first day of the campaign will be the 1st of Mirtul. For whatever reason appropriate to your character’s individual backgrounds you find yourself in Shadowdale in search of adventure. Perhaps it’s the legends of all the other adventurers who went on to fame and fortune from this sleepy. Or maybe it’s the rumors of the strange beasts prowling the woods of late. The reason for you being there is up to you. More details to follow….. As of now our scheduled start date is March 14th. That should give you some time to work on your characters. Keep posted and posting.

| Wednesday indeed. The plan will be to play every Wednesday except the first of the month when Scott has Beer Club. Even those Wednesday's when he has Beer Club but Game Knight isn't the venue we might do a board game night or I'll break out my MSH and run a little superheroes campaign.
Other campaign notes to mention, I will be re-introducing to in-game XP bonuses. Both are a +10% bonus on all XP earned for that session. The first bonus goes to the person who serves as the group chronicler and records the important events of the game as they occur. It's always handy to have someone take notes and an XP bonus incentive makes sure there are plenty of diligent recorders.
The second possible bonus is also for +10% XP. On the nights where there is a significant dungeon crawl or need to keep a detailed map the person who plots it out on graph paper for the group earns this reward.
These rewards are optional of course. Who does each task on a given night is up to you, if anyone.

| Who is he indeed...... I believe he's the dude that owes Sleepy Piggie 10 bucks.....
Technicaly Sleepy Rooster and Little Tater have dibs ahead of Dirty Wheel but I can probably manage to fit in another player. As a DM I can handle a larger group, that being said I don't want to get so big as to take the enjoyement away from other players. Tough call... I do hate turing away willing players from the table..... 8 would be my maximum either way. I've run for up to 12 and that gets pretty crazy.
Of course painted miniatures and strong backgrounds will go a long way to earning your way into the game.....
Anyway, most of the info you requestsed IT98 is in my first post. Most of the player's already in the game rolled their stats on Wednesday. Any new player's wishing to join will have their stats rolled by myself and sent to them or posted here.
As to your question about what books are allowed the 3 core rulebooks are more or less safe to go with. Beyond that more or less any Wizard's sourcebook could be allowed, just check with me beforehand. Third party books are banned.

| Other game notes.
Backgrounds must be submitted to me before Marct 12th at the latest. Earlier is much better though. Painted minis can be completed to earn the bonus at any time though.
No D&D this week or next. We have 3 options. We can either take the nights off, play a board game of some sort, or I can run a little off week Super Hero campaign using the trusty old Marvel Super Heroes rules. Any preferences?

| Well I got my Wild Elf Raider mini re-painted, and I'm working on the background.
I've never played marvel superheroes before so thats an option or I could go for a night of Battletech or Crimson Skies if anyone is interested.

| Hello,
Life has been busy so far this week (well weekend to today), so I think I iwll take Wednesday night off to catch up on things. Character background may be one of those things to follow up on.
I will volunteer for journal/recording duty, as I usually make notes about any campaign I play in anyways. In fact, I think I already have a notebook ready to record everything in.
Sadly, I will not gain the repaint bonus, as I have no mini painting skills whatsoever. Maybe I can double up with the mapping bonus.
Cheers

| Oh great and powerful DM. I will volunteer to be group chronicler. I take notes regualrly for my Sunday group, so it's not much of a chore. I think when I die there will be stories told and songs sung of my courageous exploits from my diary entries, well, until they figure out it is really my D&D characters.
As to repainting metal minis, you're on. But a question or two before we start. Can I use a recently painted mini, or just current work? Can my repaint be a plastic mini? (ie D&D minis?) I just ordered stock earlier and I don't know if I can get minis on it, so new metal ones may have to wait 2 weeks.
If I can find some time I may research FR a little more, and tune up my back story. But I will post something soon regardless. Most of it is in my head anyway. | | "GameKnight Games and Cool Stuff Winnipeg's source for RPGs and minis!" www.gameknight.ca

| Who writes the chronicle is up to the group to decide. I'm pleased to see there are a few who are interested. Perhaps turns can be taken.
As for the painting of minis a recently painted work would be fine. You may repaint plastic but it must be significantly different from the original mini to qualify for the bonus. You can get the mini bonus at any time, even after the campaign has begun so feel free to order in the miniature of your choosing and paint it at your leasure.

Okay here you go STR 13, DEX 12, CON 13, INT 16, WIS 17, CHA 13. That's what you get to work with. You may take a re-roll on one stat but must take the result even if it is lower.
As for staring gold you use the starting equipment packages in the PHB for your class.

| Ice Troll,
With the scores just provided to you by Mike you would make a good cleric. Take a re-roll on Charisma and hope for a higher roll for more turning attempts.
More healing is always a good thing in the party, and right now I am most of the healing power (with a bit from Nico's paladin).
Of course, you could also be a Wizard with those stats.

| I suppose I should admit an ulterior motive if Ice Troll goes with Cleric. I can switch over to Bard and provide general support to the entire party then (not htta I have anything against a Cleric of Lathander if needed). I just have some songs in mind.

| Heres my background.
Veil Oakenheart was a traveling musician with his father. His father was always warning him about bandits, and how they attack innocent people for no reason except greed. For protection his father gave him their family sword and his own crossbow. One day his fathers warnings came alive, and a small group of bandits jumped them. His father defended Veil, and was slaughtered. One of the bandits approached Veil, so he did some thing that amazed even him. In one swift motion Veil pulled out the sword, slashed the bandit across the face, turned around and ran. He swore on the memory of his father that he would find that bandit group and rip them to shreds. He knew that he could not do it himself, as the group was really a large gang that he had heard many stories about, so he set off for Shadowdale, having heard on his travels that many adventurers had found trusted allies and started their adventuring careers well in Shadowdale.
Thats were we are now. Hope you like it

Ice_Troll98 Yes you may be a Forest Gnome but you have to use the Forgotten Realms version and come from the Great Dale.
They have the same traits as gnomes in the PHB except: +4 on hide checks, +8 in forest settings +1 to hit kobolds, orcs, goblinoids, and reptilian humanoids Automatic languages: Common, Gnome, Sylvan, Damaran Spell like abilities: Pass without Trace and Speak with Animals Favored Class: Illusionist +1 level adjustment.
You would have the choice of either a masterwork light mace, masterwork shortspear, or wand of cure light wounds with 20 charges.

I was thinking about it, but I think I'll pass.
You've already got 7 pcs, and I wasn't too sure I wanted to commit to another evening at gameknight, although I was definitely considering it.

Ice_Troll98 Brief but pretty good. I can work with it.
Let me know if you'd like some information on the Great Dale or anything else to help punch it up a bit.
Since you didn't go into the detail I'll name your father, Dingle Oakenheart devout worshiper of Baervan Wildwanderer. Oh how he wished you would avoid the minstrel's life and join the clergy.... you would be safe. But alas, that was not to be.
Poor dead Dingle Oakenheart, we barely knew ye.....
Based on that background your bonus item will be your father's wooden holy symbol of Baervan Wildwanderer. It's special ability one I'll keep in secret and tell you privately, unless you want everyone to know.

| That's pretty average given it's 5d6 drop two. Tough to decide what to reroll. Is the reroll one whole set of 5 dice or is it one of the 5 dice? If it's one of the 5 dice then I suppose I'd reroll one of the 13's in hopes that getting the 13 was 5,6,2 or something, although that's unlikely. I suppose you can just reroll the strength and we'll see what happens. Could end up as a rather inept wizard or rogue I suppose. Gives some interesting ideas on background
though.

| I just finished getting my history done. I don't know what the 1st of Mirtul is, but I'll check out your link over lunch. Otherwise, here you go:
Curriculum Vitae for Lannister Lazenby
Lannister Lazenby was born 2nd son to woodcutter Leornum and Suella Lazenby, of Sprighollow Vale some 27 years ago, on Tarsakh 27th, in the Year of the Saddle, 1345. He was preceded by older brother Senwell, 3 years prior. His other siblings include Marvain (25), Cruella (24), and Elloravanen (20). Leornum Lazenby was killed by a direbear in the Year of the Crown (1351), when Lannister was 6 years old. His mother Suella didn’t remarry, but produced a bastard child only a year and a half later from a mysterious cloaked visitor. Elloravanen was born with some obvious elven heritage, but is probably only one quarter elf and not half elf. Senwell took over being the man of the house at 10 years of age and managed to pick up his fathers axe and provide a meager income for the family. As the children grew, each of them in turn joined Senwell with his duties cutting wood.
Lannister, or Lucky as he was later to be called, also grew to join in with woodcutting as the family’s main income. He was severely wounded at age 12 in the Year of the Prince (1357). A falling tree caught him in the leg and crushed it. It should have crushed him entirely, but he somehow managed to dodge it at the last moment. Thus he earned his nickname of “Lucky”. The tree crushed his left leg and he was bedridden for months. A traveling cleric came to town and helped heal it, but not completely. Lannister could walk again, but he is still troubled by his leg, especially in the cold wet season, and sometimes walks with a limp. He did get back to cutting wood to help support his family. It was not a career he chose however and soon he got restless. In 1361, the Year of Maidens, when he came of age at 16, he decided to leave. Sprighollow Vale was too small and he decided to move on to New Hold and seek work there for Lord Evensten Wilde.
As Sprighollow Vale is only a small Hamlet up in the hills, career prospects were easy – cut wood or go south to New Hold and join the Lord’s men at arms. Upon arriving in New Hold “Lucky” was given room and board and started some training in weapons, forestry, and hunting. He learned to use many martial weapons, but never really excelled at them. He had a bit of a knack for hunting, as he grew up in the woods. This lasted for several years, but he didn’t ever achieve anything better than hunting and guard duty. He gambled his meager earnings away much of the time. In 1367, The Year of the Shield, after 6 years of grunt work he decided he’d had enough of that and moved downstream to the Dragon Reach Coast and signed on as a hand aboard the merchantman freighter “Sea Ghost” out of Harrowdale.
He worked the trade for a few years, picking up some more skills as a sailor. But as a crewman he spent lots of time in taverns and bars playing cards and dice. Never desiring to stay in one place and be tied down, he has a couple of bastards of his own in ports of call (that he knows of anyway). He soon found that he was making more money gambling than he was working aboard ship. And with the ship working its way around the Sembrian coast, the Coast of Cormyr and the Dragon Coast, there was no shortage of inns and taverns. This always allowed him to take his winnings (or debts) and leave town. In 1369, the Year of the Gauntlet, the Sea Ghost was part of a convoy of 3 merchantmen ships that were attacked by Devil Rays. The Sea Ghost was the only ship to escape. After that encounter Lannister lost some of his love for the sea. His time aboard the Sea Ghost only lasted until just a few months ago.
While in the town of Scardale, Lannister joined a high stakes game for gold pieces. It turned out the game went sour after he was accused of shortchanging the pot in a game of Three Dragon Ante. One of his opponents was Oleg Bolton, a scary looking man with a scar running across his face and missing the tip of his nose. Oleg Bolton is the leader of a small gang called the “Bones Companions” who took it rather personally when Lannister called him "Sniffles". Seeking to break “only his finger bones”, they staked out the docks by the “Sea Ghost” where he was to return. Well the ship sailed without him and he joined a river barge crew and went upstream the River Asharm. He worked the river trade up until a week ago when by chance he ran into the “Bones Companions” in Ashabenford. He only managed to get out of town just ahead of Oleg's gang. On foot and trying to stay ahead of the mercenary group, he found himself in Shadowdale. Looking to get in a few games of chance he was seeking to get himself some coin and find a way out of town.
