I am looking to get started building some terrain for A&A minis, and I know the jist of the materials that I need to buy (styrofoam, mdf style hardboard, pva glue, paints, powdered wood putty or whatnot, etc). But where's a good place to get stuff like that? There's a Michael's and Home Depot right next to eachother by the Boston Pizza on St. Anne's, would those be two good places to check out first? Are there better places with better prices?
Blair,
Not one of the A&AM collectors either, just because I can't afford two minis games. It tooks pull my interest a bit, but my paycheque kind of determines things.
As for modelling supplies, I think you have the best sites already marked. One other option might be to look at some school supplies places in later September as they clear out things like glue, etc. form the back to school sales.
Welcome to the group.

| Thanks for the welcome. :)
Here's a question geared towards Idzy (I hope I got the name right..). Since you're the delegate of WoTC for Winnipeg, do you know of any stores that sell the minis here in Winnipeg? And also if any stores are going to start those campaigns/scenarios/frontlines or whatever they're called.
I e-mailed jogo the other day and they're getting some in sometime, but I think we need someone on the inside to prod them a bit into joining that A&AM campaign/frontline program. *prod prod*. :)

I haven't heard of anyone carrying them yet, but there is a pretty good chance that Face Off, Pendragon, and Galaxy comics have them. And Gameknight on St. Mary's will order them for you I'm sure.
Jo Go isn't a store that I have made contact with I didn't know that they carried WotC product other than the board games. They are not listed on the WotC retailer search. I will have to check them out. As for the Campigns best bet is to get some players interested and asking at the store. I am sure that Gameknight would be happy to order the kits if there is enough interested players.
It sure seems like I'm shilling for Gameknight but I am just guessing you are close by? | | Champion of Champions (for all races! even Gnomes ) Reference Thread Winnipeg Gryphon Cavalry Forums

| Yea I live out on St. George Rd.
I've dealt with Gameknight before (the owner is a really cool dude). The store was just really starting to get their first shipments in when I phoned and asked him if he had D-Day in. Well, he didn't, but he custom-ordered it in for me and it came in about a week. That was sometime last year in the fall. Not sure when, I just know I got it before the revised version of the board game which I got around christmas time.
Yea, Jogo Canada is on Meadowood (in the same stripmall as uhm, Quizno's I think. There's also that McDarmind's Lumber and a dollar store in that same stripmall). They seem like cool people too. When I was last in there I was there to check out A&A boardgames to see what they had. I'm not sure of what miniatures they had for sale as I do not remember, but I think they might've had either D&D or Star Wars minis.
At any rate, the guy did email me saying that they were getting some A&A in and based on the popularity they might start some organized games of it. Thanks for those other stores you listed, I might have to phone em or check them out tomorrow to see if they have any. I recently ordered some in from coolstuffinc down in Florida. That package should arrive either Friday or early next week, but I can't wait to start on these so I might pick up either a starter or a booster if any stores have them in.
Again, thanks for helping out with all the useful info.

| As to Axis and Allies minis, GameKnight will bring them in when requested. So far no one has asked for them, so it is tough to sink money into a product only to have it staring at you many months later. I do have a demo set, so maybe our October 3rd wednesday could be AAM demo day. If anyone shows up to play, or learn to play I could decide whether there is enough interest to carry the product.
What do you think Rob, would a demo help get this product into the marketplace? | | "GameKnight Games and Cool Stuff Winnipeg's source for RPGs and minis!" www.gameknight.ca

| Hey Beer Baron, are you the owner of Gameknight or a worker there? It sure sounds like it. :P If you are, do you remember when I ordered D-day almost a year ago?
I was the dumb child who didn't realize that "in the back of" meant in the back of the actual Grapes store and not behind it which I thought it meant, eek.
Sorry that I havn't been back yet, just havn't needed to buy a game since then. (Revised Edition was a gift).

| | Yes, I will have to come check it out again soon. If that "Oct. 3rd Wednesday" you were talking about is going to be A&AM, I will definately swing by if I'm not working, just let me know what time it starts. One little problem though, are you talking about Oct. 3rd the Monday or Oct. 5th the Wednesday? I'll assume the latter. [:D] | | | |

I'll give you a call a little later to pick a day. | | Champion of Champions (for all races! even Gnomes ) Reference Thread Winnipeg Gryphon Cavalry Forums

| ooooooooooh okay, sorry for my assumption. [:)] If Gameknight ever sets up some kind of A&AM Demo night or a terrain-building demo night for any type of minis (whatever I learn I will incorporate it into hex-based minis), I will be very interested in checking it out. | | | |

Its too bad you couldn't make it out. The demo was fun but it was just me giving Scott a beating at Risk 2210, as no one else came into the store all night.
He just couldn't defeat my defenders on the first turn and lost around 20 armies to my 7 which left me in a great position to expand on my turn and then go first the next round which pretty much made me unstoppable.
The demo schedule that we came up with last night is:
Hecatomb on Oct. 19th everyone who paticipates gets a free booster of cards and a WotC deck/warband box and if you buy a starter another free booster.

Ah, I'm looking at the wotc's website right now for Hecatomb. I might have to check it out on Oct. 19th if I'm not working. [:D]

| That's what you get for dropping the ball two days ago Omand, whatever that means [:D] (By the way, I'm new, so don't smack me too hard for that comment [xx(]). Did anyone else go to the SoAD concert tonight? It was amazing!! I would rank it the same as the Pearl Jam concert two weeks ago, as both were very different styles of music and both excellent, excellent concerts (except for the first opening band for System of a Down, they were called "Hella" and were, well, not good).
To get back on topic a wee bit, are those the only nights that Gameknight is running things? Or are those just major events so to speak? If there's anything on the gameknight website pertaining to these, I will go check it out right now.
Ah, your website seems a bit outdated (only be a month so it's not a big deal [:)]). Do you still have Heroclix every saturday morning? I do not have any Heroclix but I might stop by on some Saturday to check it out.

In regards to the website, I know it is dated. That has been a problem for a while. I hope to get something done about it soon.
We have a gaming schedule at the store, usually for the next month or so. Today I will be working on the Oct/Nov schedule of events. Basically we have D&D minis every Thursday @ 7 pm. That group is pretty regular. D&D minis on Saturday is smaller, so we don't always have tournements then. Wednesdays we run Star Wars Minis on the second and fourth Wednesday of the month. And Heroclix play 3 out of 4 Saturdays at 10 am.
If anyone wants to run tourneys or events of another genre, they are always welcome to contact me to work something out. I've been talking to some guys about Magic the Gathering, but no details on that yet.

| Hello all,
Only four of us out this past Thursday, but interesting skirmishes. Richard even lost against Rob for the final of the night. Does this mean a challenge for dominance is in the making for the Underdark pre-release?
Everybody has to show up to find out. [)]

| Yea, System blew me away, amazing show.
I was looking at that schedule again that you posted. I'm not sure if I can make it to Campaign Outfitters today for that Roborally event, but I am just curious about the freebies. Is a WotC deck a deck of cards and is a "warband box" a box of sorts that hold miniatures?

The deck/warband boxes are card board boxes that are good for holding trading cards or miniatures. they are black with the Wizards of the Coast logo on them. they hold about 400 cards without sleeves, they are the perfect size for sending trades in the mail actually. | | Champion of Champions (for all races! even Gnomes ) Reference Thread Winnipeg Gryphon Cavalry Forums

I maanaged to finish work a bit early on Saturday and got out to see the end of the RoboRally demo. Quite a neat game in my opinion.
On another note, what are people preapring for this Thursday evening in terms of bands. You know you want to let me know now? [)]

| | D&D minis sure does seem interesting, but I won't be able to check it out since I work on thursday. On another mini note, my axis & allies minis came yesterday. I'm a bit skeptical about what I paid for, considering the guys are smaller than I pictured and that the maps are well, paper. I'll just need to get a game or two in just so then I feel like I spent my money well. I got a weird mixture of guys from my starter and two boosters but I think I can field an okay axis army thanks to my jagd and panzer iv ausf g (i think). | | | |

| Blair46,
Well, you can always try to make it out on a Saturday or Sunday to the various games around the city as well for DDM. Gameknight is on Saturdays at 12:00 and Galaxy has skirimishes on Sunday, or at least they used to, I think they have cut things back a bit now.
Everyone,
Anyone interested in a Hezrou, I have one now on my sales thread. Sorry for the commercial interruption.

| As always, we poor little retailers are the last to know. Although if this is breaking news, maybe I won't be the last to know. I'll be the third last, or maybe fourth.
It sounds cool, and I suspected they might do this after seeing that AT-AT product coming around. It seemed only logical. I've heard rumours of a Tiamat single sculpt. But Dragons would be infinitely cooler (and more marketable!).
