| Chronicles of the Shadowdale Light Fellowship - part two
May 16, 2007
Lets see if all the work of installing a new office program helps fix all the posting inconsistencies. Commentary by Yours Truly is in italicised type face.
The Cast: Scott – Lannister Lazenby - Human male Gambler/Ladies Man (Rogue). Chris L. – Sir Gawain Aranadan – Human male Cleric of Lathander. Nico – Felix Flounder - Human male Paladin of Lathander (slightly deranged). Jory – Veil Oakenheart - Gnome male Bard (son of the legendary Fiddlin’ Dingle Oakenheart). Len – Casey Breck Flannery - Halfling male ranger (Lycanthrope hunter). Rob – Cutter Blackleaf - Elven male fighter/barbarian. Garret - Thagnor – Dwarven male Jug player (bard? Former musician in Dingle’s Oakenheart’s Absent do to illness – Temporary NPC status for the night - Chris B. – Nymagus - Elven male wizard.
Associates (NPCs) Blix – Goblin indentured servant. Torchey – Halfling male torch bearer (lighting specialist) Plinky, Blongo, Snoot and Otto – goblins that we rescued.
Deceased Otto - goblin follower – killed by a Black Hippogriff mercenary (or was he….)
Our story picks up……
We decide to cremate the bodies of the mercenaries we killed last session.
(Condensed notes from my customer serving retail absence – transcribed from Chris L.)
We travel two more days without incident. Our horses slow travel, with 22+ in our band.
We camp for the night on the second day. second watch becomes aware of creatures in the woods. Frog people and giant frogs. (8 bullywugs and 8 giant frogs).
Snoot and Otto are swallowed during the second round of combat.
(Chronicler back, realizes that Otto died lat week. It must have been one of the other goblins. Mr. DM will have to decide. In the midst of combat I continue.)
Lannister gets grapples by a giant frog, and misses his grapple check. He swings with his longsword and gets 13 points of tongue severing damage! Aaagh tongueless bites me for 6 damage. Felix is hit! Where is that frog-bane dagger man! Gawain hits and kills a bullywug. Torchy (frogbait) moves away. Cutter cuts frog! Swish, chop, splat. Casey's at it too. Veil brings up a silent image of an owlbear. Thagnor, dwarf bard (filled in by Garret Dorge) uses ghost sound to make owlbear sounds. Great teamwork here!!! Frogs attack! Lannister (in true fighting form) fumbles and looses his sword. "Dang it! Not again!" Felix finds it (in his back "..it's not my fault!!!") Owlbear image goes pop. Frog bites all the way around. Felix is down. Gawain steps in with the mighty healing. ("I don't know how my sword got there!" Lannister says trying to duck the blame.) Nymagus runs away. Lannister hits with the dagger and draws his short sword ("...hold on now...must… hold on to these......"). Veil is hit bad. Thagnor gets into flanking position with Lannister. (Yes!) Felix is back up. Gawain maces the bullywug, takes him down and saves Blix! Cutter does some tongue-breaking action. Lannister hits again with the dagger, and doesn't lose either weapon (Yes!)
Combat winds down, Gawain stabilizes Otto and Snoot (go Gawain you goblin healing machine!) Lannister tries to convince Felix the bullywugs stole his sword and flung it at him.
We find a scroll in a crude draconic language. Lannister rolls a natural 20 on decipher script, but he only recognizes a few glyphs for bullywugs, money, hunting, and group of light….hmmmmmm…..
Okay, it’s frogs legs for breakfast. We ditch the bullywug leather armour. (..eewwww…they smell like an old boot, and a swamp…but funky!).
857 XP awarded
On the road again….
Single file to hide our numbers, we come across tracks. Large spiders? Small booted elves, Drow? We decide to continue on towards the Elven court. We come to a campsite. It was used 4 days ago by a few humanoids. We fortify it with a ring sharpened sticks (Gawains idea).
3rd watch (Lannister, Casey & Cutter), Casey sees a large wolf. He approaches and it watches him. It doesn’t seem typical. He comes back to camp, but gets the impression we are being watched. Anyways, frog bacon for breakfast it is.
The terrain is getting denser with forest, and we come to a fork in the trail. Casey scouts the area and finds a cave. It has bats and guano, and is roughly circular (25’). There is a large boulder that has been moved before. We move it and find a tunnel that goes downward. It goes 120 ft in a straight line. It widens to a larger natural cavern. Thagnor sees a large set of stone doors, with a wicked spider carving. There is a pit, or shaft with a raised edge, 10’ diameter. Veil drops a rock in. (Apparently he hasn’t seen Lord of the Rings) “Damned fool of a Bard!” exclaims Cutter. There apparently is no sound of a rock hitting anything. Thagnor casts light on a masterwork spear and chucks that down too. Damned drunk jug player dwarf! I surmise that this could be a beholder shaft, and stress our need to leave. It appears to be 300-400 ft deep or more. We go back to guano central, and spike the door with our pointy wooden sticks. Lannister teaches Blix and company the basics of Three Dragon Ante.
And time to call it a night. So what lies behind yonder guano encrusted rock? Are the Drow tracking us? Will we reach the Elven Court? Will our supply of giant frog legs hold up? Can you really teach goblins to play Three Dragon Ante? Stay tuned until next week!

Garret did a good job of filling in as Thagnor although if he keeps throwing 300gp spears down bottomless pits I'm not sure how long he'll be around....

| | If it all possible, I'm going to camp close to the cave mouth. On my watch I'll wander the perimeter looking for the wolf. For today, I memorized speak with animals, so if at all possible, I'd like to communicate with the furry fella! I'll also do my best to describe the wolf to the bards to see if they've heard stories about such an animal. | Hello all,
Enjoying the chronicles, and the game. It was a bit of a slower evening on Wednesday, but still good fun. Things proceed apace.
Overnight Gawain is standing watch as usual, then resting for the fight he knows is coming.
As to meals this coming weekm I say Quiznos again.
Cheers

| | The one problem with ribs is it takes a lot longer so we'd all have to be up for it and given we wrap at 10 be prepared to do some of the charater work while we're chowing down perhaps. | | | |

| Well, the schedule may end up looking like this:
5:00 arrive at GameKnight 5:30 last stragglers arrive at GameKnight 5:40 arrive at Montana's 7:00 finally finish the gluttony 7:15 return to GameKnight 7:30 finally get down to playing 10:00 wrap up
That would mean a whopping total of 2.5 hours of gaming. I'm thinking that is a bit short. I like nice, long sessions. I'm usually eager to keep going till midnight, but I'm good with ending early too, as long as we get quality time in. Perhaps what we could do is move gaming to a different day one week, maybe the first of the month when we'd normally be skipping anyway. We can do ribs on the Wednesday and gaming on Friday.
Just throwing it out there. | | All hail the mighty Green Rhino!

| W can start playing earlier. My old group suffered from lack of playing too. First everyone kinda straggled in. Time to play was 7:00, and I was always there on time until it seemed pointless to do so. But the stragglers would show up at 7:30, 7:45, 8:15, and so on. Then those with food ate while the rest of us watched. Oh, and Futurama was on at 8:30, so we really couldn't start until 9:00 in all seriousness.
12 hours is a long day, so I'm still in favour of cutting it at 10 pm. If something exciting is happening and we are in the middle of it, a big fight or some good roleplaying, I'm sometimes okay with staying late. But I can't say 12 pm is okay and that is the new time.
I am in favour of starting D&D at 5 pm, and actually starting on time.
Just my opinion. Half the time I'm serving customers anyways. AAAArgh! | | "GameKnight Games and Cool Stuff Winnipeg's source for RPGs and minis!" www.gameknight.ca
