Okay, it's time for a posting bonus so I'm giving a free mystery magic item to the person who answers all of Scott's questions above to the best of his satisfaction. He will decided who gets the item by judging the player that provides to best answers.

Good luck everyone.

Who is going to be the first person to chronicle last night's festivities?
- Me, dag nabbit!
Was there any combat?
- nope
Was Lannister as lazy as I wanted him to be?
- we made him pick some locks, that's about it. Mostly, he slept.
Did Veil sing anything?
- a skillful Countersong indeed!
Was his dead father's ghost there to chastise him?
- no, no ghosts
Did Nymagus do any silly wizardy stuff?
- more portal stuff, lots of reading, some identifying
Did Cutter cut? (Slash, dice, mince, puree, stab, slice, chop, cleave or whack anything)
- no combat, though he did practice with the fancy scimitars.
Did Casey find his wolf friend?
- nope, the wolf was not to be seen underground, and even when I spent time combing the woods outside the library, no wolfy appearances.
Did Gawain preach (or turn or heal)?
- there was a minor amount of healing to start the session, everyone is happily at full strength (no pun intended Nymagus!)
Did Blix betray the party like the backstabbing yellow-bellied turncoat he really is (if he didn't, he will soon, mark my words....).
- Words marked, as Blixx did very little
Did Thagnor blow his jug?
- No jug blowing, though he did manage to assist Veil with some bardic lore knowing.
Did Snoot & Blongo give themselves cool human names instead of dorky goblin ones?
- I live to call them Fred and Ralph, but they still go by the regular names.
Did T-bone and Meatsheild II survive the dungeon trek?
- yup, the animals that came with us are okay, since we are now on the Sembian Coast, I don't know if we'll be seeing the rest of them any time soon!
Did the Hobbies eat our other horsies?
- If not the Hobgoblins, something else surely will. We'll be asking the Lord of Shadowdale for a bill when we get home.
Did Felix speakl in tongues, say anything crazy, or go on a rant about frogs?
- he often spoke of things we couldn't fully understand and was eager to destroy things, but was restrained by Nymagus and Gawain. (Nico was tired and easily prodded by the DM)
Did MJ award any XP, or is he keeping us down for another week?
- yup, we got about 1,200 XP for good role playing and we now have a Level 6 Cleric leading the party.

If I get around to it, I'll do an actual narrative later. I'm at work right now. I am currently the Acting Head of the Sciences and Technology Library of the University of Manitoba. Woohoo! That is, until Jim comes back from lunch.

All hail the mighty Green Rhino!

Shadowdale Campaign Chronicles Part V June 6/2007

Guest Chronicler Cutter

We awoke from a peaceful nights rest in the storage room. Nymagus spent the day studying his book on portals with a bit of assistance from Veil and light provided by Torchy.

I spent the day working with the Scimitar Set, but for now will stick with my Falchion.

Lanister spent the day resting lazily.

Gawain spent the day standing guard, and preaching/teaching to the Goblins.  Blix, Snoot and Blongo listend to Gawain and helped with the guard duties.

Casey spent the day grooming Forbes.

Nymagus' studies proved fruitful and he described a way to redirect the portal to its original destination.  It would require the sacrifice of several magic items or 1 very powerful one.  After 2 full days of preparation and the sacrifice of a Flail +1 (Who donated this?), a Dagger +1 from Veil, the Longsword +1 with Acid from party treasure, and Thagnor's Axiomatic Axe +1 the Portal was redirected to its original destination and the "Trave" rune was restored.

We stepped thru the portal and found ourselves packed into a small room with a single locked door.  Upon magical inspection we found that there were a series of runes that had to be touched in a certain order to open the door. Somewhere in his travels Veil had learned the secret of the door and so he was able to open it. This door led to a hallway of elven construction with 4 other doorways leading to more portals with similar rune locks.  Veil was able to open some and Nymagus the rest.  3 or the portals were appeared active and one was dead.  There was also a set of stairs leading up.  Casey scouted up the stairs and eventually the group followed him up.  Where we found an ivy covered doorway with the inscription in old elvish "Here lies the Elven Library, Come in Peace and Friendship"

Nymagus used his magical powers to open the door and we found an ivy covered hallway with several hooks holding weapons and under the effect of a Divine enchantment of Plant Growth.  Casey scouted ahead once again and found that the corridor widened into a room with crystal windows/walls that allowed sunlight in.  There is a set of spriral stairs lerading up and down and many tables and bookshelves.  And a set of double doors leading outside directly across from the entrance we came in.

As we inspected the room we discovered that the doorway to outside had been forced in, and all the bookshelves had been looted.  The damage to the door was about a week old and done by large humanoids (Bugbears or Hobgoblins).  The group traveled up to the 2nd Floor I stayed behind watching the doors and Casey scouted outside.Â

The 2nd floor had also been looted, but there was a large statue of Correlon Lerethian which all of the light in the room focused on. The room is like a Church devoted to Knowedge. Casey returned and told us of a large encampment of hobgoblins and bugbears around 150 and lead by 7 drow.  Casey and I went upstairs and I said a prayer to Correlon and gained some insight if only temporarily.

We traveled to the 3rd Floor and found a locked door so we returned to the ground floor and then explored the basement.  There were several rooms in the basement where we found a barracks, Galley, supply room and the Head Librarian's Quarters.  In the galley we found a set of silverware with place settings for 16.  In the Barracks we found several footlockers which contained old but nice looking clothing and personal effects and also a Book bound in silver plates with an ornate lock, and also a heart shaped Golden Cameo with a picture of a beautiful elven woman in it. In the supply room we found a number of containers of ink in silver, red and black a bunch of Papyrus and 100 sheets of Vellum.

The door to the head librarian's quarters was locked and as veil found out when he tried to open it trapped aswell.  The trap was musical and everyone but Nymagus and Veil was facinated by the sound and just stared off in to space while it played.  Veil was able to use countersong to defeat the trap. And we entered the room. In the room we found a very nice bed, a Cabinet and a table with a foot tall idol of Corellon.  Veil tried to open the Cabinet setting off yet another trap, which shot needles into the wall behind him, and inside we found a footlocker.  Lannister was able to open the cabinet and in it we found a staff with gold shod ends (Gawain has since it improves his healing),  a sachel, a footlocker, and a light mace +1 Green Dragon Bane (Casey took to replace his heavy mace which was too big for him), the sachel contained some traveling gear, a couple empty glass vials and 2 waterskins.  The footlocker had 500gp, 6 silver tradebars wotrth 100gp each from an old trading company, 1000 primitive looking copper pieces, 2 amethysts worths about 80gp each and a Diamond worth around 1500 to 200gp. Nymagus also discovered a hiden chamber in the idol of Corellon which held a golden key.

We then returned to the 3rd floor and Nymagus used the golden key to open the door which lead to a room with "Millions and Millions of Books!"  As he entered the light coming through the crystal dome ceiling focused on a single book which Nymagus took to the statue on the 2nd floor and tried to read. We left the rest of the books untouched and re-locked the door.  We found that the pages of the book are blank and that you probably need some kind of crystal to read the book.  We are going to take the book to Storm, hopefully she knows where we can find a suitable crystal.

As we were examining the book, Blix noticed that there were smoke signals coming from the Hobgoblin camp indicating an attack so we went back to the portal rooms and chose a different "Travel" portal to leave since there was no way out of the other one.  When we stepped out of the portal we found ourselves in an old Elven lighthouse on what we ditermined to be the Sembian Coast.  We destroyed the portal behind us to prevent the hobgoblins and drow from following us.
We then decided to make camp at the lighthouse and Felix managed to catch us a nice fish dinner.

After an uneventful night we headed west down the coast for 2 days and came upon a fishing village.  We spoke with Jorb and he told us there was no inn in the town but that we could probably find lodging at one of the farms on the edge of town in a barn.  We wen to a tavern for dinner and learned of a shipment of fish going to the closest large town in a couple days, and also that they are having some trouble with a group of bandits whoose ranks include humans, hobgoblins and ogres.

So, what happened?

See my previous post

Who is going to be the first person to chronicle last night's festivities?

Me, Rhino just answered your questions

Was there any combat?

No there was a disturbing lack of combat

Was Lannister as lazy as I wanted him to be?

I don't think he could have been much lazier

Did Veil sing anything?

Yes his countersong was quite effective at defeating the trap he set off.

Was his dead father's ghost there to chastise him?

No ghostly visions acosted us this session

Did Nymagus do any silly wizardy stuff?

Plenty but not much of it was silly

Did Cutter cut? (Slash, dice, mince, puree, stab, slice, chop, cleave or whack anything)

Sadly no, bt I did get to play with some fancy scimitars.

Did Casey find his wolf friend?

No wolves this week

Did Gawain preach (or turn or heal)?

Only to the goblins did he preach, and maybe  a little to Felix he was acting rather strange.  He did restore Nymagus' strengh though

Did Blix betray the party like the backstabbing yellow-bellied turncoat he really is (if he didn't, he will soon, mark my words....).

Blix has been a loyal compainion to us all why do you worry he will betray us?  Tell me about your relationship with your mother was she also untrustworthy?

Did Thagnor blow his jug?

Nope and Garret lived though the night in the other group.

Did Snoot & Blongo give themselves cool human names instead of dorky goblin ones?

We can name the whatever we wish but that don't mean they will answer to it.

Did T-bone and Meatsheild II survive the dungeon trek?

Luckily for them we didnt get trapped in a cave in or they would have had to live up to their tasty names.

Did the Hobbies eat our other horsies?

Seems likely that something will eat them

Did Felix speakl in tongues, say anything crazy, or go on a rant about frogs?

Nico was too tired to do much other than follow the DM's suggestions for good or ill

Did MJ award any XP, or is he keeping us down for another week?

1200xp makes me level 6 and 1 step closer to killing the mage in a frenzy

Well I am not up as a candidate for the magic item cause of my answers to the following
questions will be very poor!

1. What happened is I drifted awake...asleep...awake...asleep
2. Idzy the commander chronicled.
3. No combat I recall which was OK. If it happened it would have been bad!
4. Lannister apparently slept as much as I did.
5. Veil sang? Why the hell couldn't he keep me awake?
6. No ghosts cause that would have scared me awake!
7. Nymagus was just fine cause no one taunted, wise-cracked him into anything ... don't taunt the wizard!
8. Cutter got to rest for a change unless I was dozing during something.
9. No wolves cause they would have scared off the sheep that kept me dozing.
10 Gawain preached from the other side for me to do the right thing...man I was asleep what did I understand
11 Apparently Blixx was usefull again ... healing I think?
12 Thagnor blew who...? Stay away from me ... I vote with Len! Kill em, Kill em good!
13 Snoot, Blongo sound like drinks in my dream I had...yeah
14 T-bone and Meatshield nearly served on a plate as there predeccessors did
15 We'll never see them again unless we go back which I am thinking is certain death.
16 When I was sleeping I am sure I grunted and uttered something with my tongue
17 1200 XP for sleeping on job...not to shabby!!!

Seriously I remember parts but not all of it. I remember the start, finish and some parts
in the middle...otherwise I am just copying the other guys stuff. But I did try nevertheless
to be entertaining as Felix once was.

Mike the adventure was good; I wasn't bored just tired. I did get the feeling we were lucky
to come out of it with our skins! Good job Bach for destroying the portal at the end!!!!

Pounce goes the cat!!! Felix the Flounder strikes!
All heed the Drunken Paladin who performs comedy!!!

Any chance we could switch to a different night the week of June 20th (next week)? Nico and I are going to see Weird Al Yankovic that night. If you guys want to play on minus the paladin and ranger, that's cool, though I would prefer if we could do another night. I'm good for anything other than Monday.

That's 2 more replies in the quest for loot!

Here's the magic item contest update.

RhinoHazard - questionaire answered - score: 7.2 (out of 10) Very good basic synopsis, and you're keeping an eye on Blixx. Fred and Raplh rank up there with calling a PC Bob though.
Idzy - questionaire answered - score: 7.5 Also a good overview of my questionaire. You lost points for siding with Blixx (you goblin-lover), but your chronicles earned you bonus points. Well written.
Universally Hated - no answer yet
nicovk - questionaire answered - score: 5 The questions were answered, but where is the style and panache? Plus cutting and pasting the questions in makes it easier to see which question you're answering. Better luck next time (sleepy-head).
Omand - no answer yet - where is our intrepid leader???
dorge - no answer yet (maybe none coming either) Thagnor isn't dead yet you know.
ice troll - questionaire answered - score: 8.1. Yours made me laugh, and there is no goblin love here. I think there is a little exaggerating going on here (150 goblins, where?), but then that is what Bards do best. Good work!

So far icetroll is in the lead. Can dorge, Omand, or universally hated come up with something better?

Ah, the joys of working 13 hour days on Thursday and Friday and then 10 hour days on Saturday and Sunday.

That's why the intrepid leader has been away for a little bit.  I don't think my mind has totally regenerated, but I will try to answer lazy Lannister's questions:

So, what happened?

Well ...

We finally ended up in the Elven Court library after repairing one of the portals in the drow ambush chamber that we had been searching last session.  We did have to ascrifice the magical weapons that Cutter mentioned.  In response to his own question, we had the Dire Flail from the big Hobgoblin (Urthok mini) in the battle of the Rusty Sword camp.  Cutter has given you the rest of the details quite well, so I will not go over the same ground.

Who is going to be the first person to chronicle last night's festivities?

That would have been Cutter.

Was there any combat?

No combat at all.  A nice turn of events in my opinion since our healing wands are not long to last.

Was Lannister as lazy as I wanted him to be?

Lannister lazy?  He did not take a single watch again at all.  When has Lannister ever not been lazy, except when his life is on the line?

Did Veil sing anything?

Yes, yes he did.  He had to countersong a sonic song trap on a door that he attempted to pick open (and failed), thus rendering the rest of the party on two levels of the library structure drooling statues because of failed DC 20 Will saves (or was it DC 21?).  Didn't even bother to check for traps or try to wake up Lannister to do it.  Luckily he made his save, and Casey was out of the building at the time.  Of course, he would not even have thought of using countersong to give us all extra chances to save if some gentle persuasion had not been directed OOC.

Was his dead father's ghost there to chastise him?

As much as I dislike undead, I WISH his father had been there to chastise him.  Dumb little gnome is going to get us all killed.  Remember Lannister, he made you a drooling statue as well.

Did Nymagus do any silly wizardy stuff?

Sill, no.  Valuable, yes, yes, yes.  He found all of the items of value we needed from the library before we retreated.

Did Cutter cut? (Slash, dice, mince, puree, stab, slice, chop, cleave or whack anything)

No, he got to practice with magical scimitars, but no fighting.

Did Casey find his wolf friend?

What wolf friend?  I'm not supposed to know anything about that.

Did Gawain preach (or turn or heal)?

Need you even ask?  I am always spreading the light of Lathander in the world.  Someday Lannister you too will see the light of sun and the truth will be revealed to you.  Turning was not necessary, and healing was minor.

Did Blix betray the party like the backstabbing yellow-bellied turncoat he really is (if he didn't, he will soon, mark my words....).

Lannister, Lannister, Lannister, where does this deep seated mistrust of Blix come from.  We have been over this before.  He as not the goblin who stole your sword.  he has converted to the way of good.  He would even heal you if you gave him the chance.

Did Thagnor blow his jug?

That pun was low even for you Lannister

Did Snoot & Blongo give themselves cool human names instead of dorky goblin ones?

I admit that the names do not roll off of the tongue, but they have chosen to keep their names.  We should respect that.

Did T-bone and Meatsheild II survive the dungeon trek?

Yes they did.  In fact, they are currently munching down on some nice hay and oats in our current barn lodgings.

Did the Hobbies eat our other horsies?

This is unknown at present, but I suspect that ill fortune has likely visited the herd we assembled.  As Casey has indicated, we will owe the Lord of Shadowdale some funds upon our return to the tower.

Did Felix speak in tongues, say anything crazy, or go on a rant about frogs?

There were indeed some strange noises coming form Felix, but I do not think he has suffered a relapse of madness.

Did MJ award any XP, or is he keeping us down for another week?

Indeed, those who showed up received 1200 XP.  As for those not there, I am unaware of the rewards (or lack) that might attend such behaviour.

Inquiring minds want to know!

As to your follow up questions, Casey did indeed indicate to us that there was a camp that could hold around 150 or so Hobgoblins and Bugbears about between a quarter and half a mile from the library when he scouted outside.  He reported seeing several (at least a half dozen) drow overseers as well.  Unlike Veil has boasted, however, we never saw the entire horde chasing us.  We saw smoke signals that Blix said indicated an attack after the singing trap (activated by the gnome I might add) was set off.  I don't think the enemy would even have known we were in the library if that trap had not been set off and singing ended up echoing everywhere.

For the time being it is all moost, however, as we are at least 2 tendays travel from Shadowdale.

Cheers

Hello all,

I actually may also be unable to attend on the 20th.  Sounds likle I might have a staff training session to attend (not confirmed until later today).

Problem is, for every other night that week I am also busy with something else, and I am out of town on the weekend of the 22-24 for business/work as well.

I hate to say it, but we might need to take a week off.

Cheers

If three people have to miss that would merit taking the night off. There doesn't appear to be another night that week that will work without other people missing it.

We could play in the Sanctioned A&A minis tournament that night, it's not too late to Sanction a Dreamblade would have to be done today or tomorrow) event or just play the one from this Saturday then, we could play on with a small group depending on how tomorrows session goes, we could do a boardgame, or we could just chill for a week.

Omand - you're response was clear, consise, detailed, and easily read (good formatting). You're score is......hmmmm, a tough one. I need to see about this. A little too much goblin love is standing in the way. And I'm judging, not Lannister, so...I'll give it a 8.1. You're tied with icetroll.

So now we need a tie-breaker. Hmmmm.....

I have four kids. What are their names?
What do their names have in common?
What was my first car?
What colour was it?
Where does the name Lannister come from?
Where does the name Lazenby come from?
Where does the name GameKnight come from?
What is Zymurgy?
How many Dire bears do I have in my minis collection?
How many Harbinger Centaurs?
What is my favourite slurpee?

Okay, do your best with that. I give each of you a point on who's closest to the real answer, or whose answer has the most artistic merit.

But I also have to here from universally hated. So if he doesn't post by the end of today, he's out.

Good Luck!

Booooo-urns!

DMs are barred from the tie-breaker!

Besides, you got them all wrong. Except maybe that second last one, that is close.

And the last one has possibilities.....Worcestershire sauce......has possibilities.....

So How many votes were there for Burger King?

So far I count me and one other.

My credit card statement says there is 5 chances to win prizes worth
$5000 each when I use my credit card at Burger King. Hopefully
the prizes are usefull and not in-flate-mates!

Right now, second post for the prize:

I have four kids. What are their names?

Well, first off the hop I get bonus points for knowing that your lovely wife who bore those four beuatiful children is named Lisa.
Your eldest is Bramwell, followed by Malcolm, and the two girls (Ok, you stumped me here I am just blanking on their names, even though I have heard them many times before.  I want to say Rose and Emma).

What do their names have in common?

They are all English/British, and they all end in Tackaberry.

What was my first car?

Trick question - it was a motorcycle.  Barring that, a VW Beetle (old style)

What colour was it?

Lime Green of course

Where does the name Lannister come from?

Blanking out.  Lannister must have spiked my food with something.

Where does the name Lazenby come from?

George Lazenby, one of the actors to play James Bond

Where does the name GameKnight come from?

From the knight who fights games.  Or is it the knight who poses with big pinkish purple dragons on gamestore signs & logos, I am never sure.

What is Zymurgy?

It is The Journal of the American Homebrewers Association.  Zymurgy in general is, to quote the OED, "the branch of applied chemistry dealing with the use of fermentation in brewing, etc."

How many Dire bears do I have in my minis collection?

Either far too many, or not nearly enough, depending on your point of view.  I think the exact number might be 12.

How many Harbinger Centaurs?

That I think is 5 and counting.  In your case, however, all of the Harbinger centaurs in the world would not be enough.

What is my favourite slurpee?

Dr. Pepper of course.

Cheer

Hey all,

See everyone at the game.  I won't be back online before then I expect, so don't surprise me with anything.

Cheers

I've never really been much of a Burger King fan, so I'll either grab something on the way, or, if I'm too lazy to do that, I'll suffer with the King

All hail the mighty Green Rhino!

It's whopper Wednesday. McD's is across the street so it won't be a problem to grab something else.

Also it's raining so we can always be lazy and order in Pizza.

Omand - some good answers there! Some are even very close to being right. I'll wait until 5 to see if icetroll posts, and then I'll tally the scores.

Re: Food - BK is good for me. Has somebody got coupons?

I think Lannister is now 6th level. Does the "leadership" feat suit him? Hmmm....choices, choices......

Lannister is not exactly what I would call leadership material, not that he couldn't be.

And it's Whopper Wednesday, why would you need coupons?

Lannister may not be the most generous at volunteering for jobs, but he is practical. He knows when a plan is bad or not (re: underground trek fraught with danger). He is not afraid to voice his opinion, or help his friends when danger arises.

He would definitely make a good governmental middle manager!

Oh yeah...whopper wednesday.....good plan.

No argument about Lannister being able to voice his opinions. Now all you need is someone to listen to them.
