They seem to think the rules are online and that will be fine with everyone.

Sounds like poor planning on this new rollout. You would think they'd try and make this crossover as painless as possible.
Are the new Starter packs going to be available as well? So that people who want to buy the new rules will have that option?

Unfortunately I'm going to be out of town during the pre-release party. I'll be back on Monday March 31st. Is there anything happening on the official release day?

Not at the pre-release. I tried, really. But they were firm on it only being the booster packs.

The last "starter set" pre-release was Wardrums, and you got a starter and a booster. But the starter then had more figures, and other than 2 fixed figs, all the other were random including the rare. So essentially you got more than what you would get with 2 boosters. This time the starter set has it's own fixed figures (ie all the same in every starter), and only 5 of them. How would it work if everyone had the same 5 figures, and the contents of 1 booster. There would be lots of Large Green Dragons to fight.

Personally, I wanted to see 2 boosters and 1 starter. And not just to move product, but like you say to make the crossover easier. They wouldn't go for this. So we'll do the best we can with the way it is set out by WOTC.

On another note, posters finally got here. I will give 1 to everyone who comes out to play epic this week, as supplies last. There are "Caves of Chaos" maps on the back.

Part of the problem with starters is as you say the fixed figures.  I beleive part of the decision may come from earlier when they required purchase  of a starter at a pre-release and everyone bitched about it. Of course the bitching was because the starter was from a previous set and people already had all the strarters they needed from that set.

I'll print a few copies of the new rules to put on the tables if you don't have that already done.

It's not as if people who don't know the rules will be able to sit down and read the rulebooks at the prerelease anyway. If you don't know the rules going in it'll be too late to absorb much of anything and it's a bad enviroment to learn as you go.

The new rules aren't hard to pick up once you've played with them a bit but they are different in a lot of ways from the previous system.

Even if everyone who goes has read the rules before attending it'll make a difference. Like I said I'd run another demo the night before if people are interested.

I can print up the rules too. I just thought that it would have been nice for WOTC to send some rulebooks out. Maybe when I get my prizebox (repaints) there will be some there, but Reid said they weren't planning to do that. Another demo would be good. If that is the plan, I'll put it up on the web and mention it when I send out my mass emailing.

WOTC order just showed up. Nico/Ryan your case of DoD is here, and Maple story, and retailer kits. This week there are repainted Boneshard skeltons (red, very nice) and Sahaguin Baron Cards. I have only ordered 2 kits, and they go out at the sanctioned games, so don't miss Thursday!

SWM kit have repaint Mandalorian troopers, and more poster/maps.

I'll do an unoffical demo on the 28th starting at 6 PM.

I've also put in for an official DDM demo on April 4th, the night of the official release.

Darn it, I want one of those posters, but I have to work on Thursday again.

Oh well, at least it looks like I can make it out to all of the demos, which I really want to participate in.  I will need the practice with the new system.

See everyone for the finals of league on Saturday.

Cheers

The stars are properly positioned, and the Gods are smiling upon me.....looks like I'll actually be able to come out for some minigaming for TWO consecutive Saturdays!! Hooray for me!

As for SWM this Saturday, I promise I won't bring Grand Admiral Thrawn.....although I do have a killer 100 pt squad for him....

And I am looking forward to the DDM pre-release the following Saturday (even though I was originally hoping for the Star Wars Minis release event that day), and I'm about to read the new rules right now. See y'all soon!!

The GameKnight events calender has been fixed. It now shows SWM release event on the 12th and the DDM pre-release on the 29th. I've posted april-june as empty, and will fill in the blanks later. Some up-coming events I have dropped in ther and will add more later.

Cheers!

Did you mean for the first Magic event to be on a Thursday and all the others on Fridays?

Also you can add the unofficial 2nd edition DDM demo for the 28th of March and my official delegate demo for DDM on April 4th to coencide with the release of the new minis.

are we going to do any maplestory events? I think that would be fun

Oh and if you play make sure you visit Wizards to get the lowdown on how bosses work :)

this is the gist of what I read

- They are brought into play like monsters
- They have character-like abilities tied to your character level
- They get damaged like characters but can't get healed (damage does not get reset every round)
- They don not add character abilities to your character if they are used to level your character

Don't forget everyone. League resumes this Saturday at 1 PM for the final session.

Even if you didn't make the top 8 come on out and play in the secondary tournament to earn some prizes.

I hope to see everyone tomorrow.

Hey Guys, Well the league is over and it was very well run (thank you Mike) and it was lots of fun. The only way it could have gotten any better is more people out to play, but I guess that is out of our hands. Also thanks toThe Beer Baron for the hard work and time that went into the new prize structure (GK Cash and all the other stuff) I like it and it seems to work well.
I also enjoyed this league format better than the ladder league.

See you guys at prerelease and hopfully in a new 2.0 league soon.

Glad you had a good time with the League.

The final breakdown of the top 8 was Richard 1st, Norm 2nd, Scott 3rd, Mike 4th, Nico 5th, Bram 6th, Chris 7th, and Ryan 8th.

Despite some lower than normal turnouts I think the format went over pretty well.

I'm sure a new League of some kind will start up before too long.

Another reminder for everyone. I'll be doing some kind of DDM demo this Friday at Game Knight as a tune up for the release tournament the following day.

Come on down if you haven't had a chance to learn the new rules or would just like a tune up before the big prerelease event.

And Thursday is the last sanctioned day with the old rules. Don't miss that.

I got the Pre-release swag today, the Drow Wand Mage repaint.

An interesting note - it has skirmish stats on one side, and RPG stat on the other side.

Hey there guy's, I can't seem to find the spot that tells me what maps we can use for DDM 2.0.
If someone can find a list of which maps are not allowed at the prerelease that would be great.

Okay, the new schedule it up on the GameKnight web site. If any one can find any of my usual cut and paste errors, please let me know.

Things to note:

Matt's Magnificent Magic League will be taking place on Thursday nights. I am hoping there will be 10 to 15 players a night. I am planning to reserve a section of the room for Magic, and a section of the room for DDM. If there is a small DDM attendance, I may look at running the games upstairs. It is a 15 week league, and at the end may move to Fridays or stay on Thursdays (to be determined). This will make the room crowded, and if it is a problem will look at other options, possibly moving DDM to Fridays.

DDM will be switched to new rules after the new set releases (Friday April 4th). I will be willing to schedule an "Old Rules" game if there is sufficient demand (like 4+ players agree on when they want it). I can change the schedule to allow for that.

The is no new league plan for DDM just yet. I figure with the new set we can have a month or two adjustment period to learn the new rules. With a new set out, I think a draft league might be fun, and I will look at ideas on how to run it. If anyone wants to volunteer, discuss it with me for structure, format, cost and prizing. MJ has done a great job on the last 2 leagues (Thanx Mikey!). Does anyone else want to take the reigns for a new league? I can adjust the schedule to allow for that also.

DreamBlade was going to go on the schedule for May 1st, but I put 100 points DDM there instead. Please let me know if there is enough interest to drop DDM for DreamBlade for 1 night, and if you want it sanctioned. MJ, Richard, GriffonHeart, Dorge, Idzy and Nork are the usual players, so please advise me when you can.

Cheers,

TBB

Hello,

Yes, it was another fun Pre-release.  I did not manage to go all the way this time, it was not in the stars.  All props to David; he handed me my two defeats of the day.  The combination of the Beholder and the Shade Knight with AC 24 or 26 and Def 26 just was too much for my warband to handle.

Nice to see some new people out, and some very good games overall.  All of my matches were competitive to progress to the end.

For anyone interested, my rares from original pulls and extra boosters were: Young Red Dragon, Giffon, Rakshasa Baron, Lamia & Wyvern.  I now have 30 of the 60 minis from the set and looking forward to getting a few more.

Cheers

Congratulations to the winner and all those who placed.

Hopefully everyone enjoyed the new rules and had fun. For those who didn't make it out or just want another taste of the new rules I'll be running a DDM demo this Friday at Game Knight at 6 PM. Come down and learn to play with all your new minis.

It was my pleasure, glad I could help out.

It'll be a while before everyone is comfortable with the new rules but overall once they are I think they are changes for the positive.

From the reports I've been reading from various prerelease events the majority of the feedback seems to be positive on the new set and the new rules. The average game length seems to be shorter with few ending at a time limit.

I'm looking forward to trying out the single booster draft format next week, I think it could be a lot of fun.

Thank you Scott for hosting the pre-release, and thank you Mike for running around answering questions.  I realized that it will take some time getting used to the rules.  I don't love or hate them yet, which is a good sign.  I assume as I get more comfortable with them, I will begin to like them.  I do know that some of my friends who play will be very happy with the new rules as they hated Morale saves,  and the restrictions on charging, etc.

I think my favorite new rule, is that I do not have  to target a creature with area effect abilities, I can target a square that I can see instead.
