Hey Chris, I know All fun and games, and now fallen orc are holding tournaments, what is the third store?

Lost Goblin Games in North Raleigh, I'll be running one there the 29th.

Well, crap... For those of you playing along at home (and who care) my interview was postponed. We're looking at May 27th now. :( I'll keep you abreast of the latest developments...

That stinks that it got delayed, but it's still happening so that's good. If you're coming to town the 26th, let me know, and we can play a skirmish or something.

And there are two tourneys that weekend - one on Saturday at All fun and Games and another on Sunday at Lost Goblin ... I probably won't be able to make either, but I'm sure everyone else would love to meet ya!

Yeah, it would be cool if I could stay an extra day. That would be tough since I'm not paying for it... We may need to wait until I (hopefully) move down there. :(

It's all good, brother... I doubt I would have any time for gaming anyway. It's looking more and more like I would be moving down that way in Mid-August, since Cisco probably wouldn't hire me so close to the end of their fiscal year. (August 1 is the new FY.)

I'll keep you all posted, though. :)

Okay... so here is the latest episode in "As the Interview Turns"... I spoke with my contact at Cisco on Friday and he put in a request for airfare and hotel for June 13th (next Monday). I'll fly down Monday night and interview on Tuesday morning.

Also, check this out, my in-laws (good people) and possibly my brother-in-law are moving down there. Good stuff. My in-laws are house-shopping in Cary and have it narrowed down to 2 or 3 houses. That'll be good because it will give my wife and I a place to stay while looking for a house of our own.

On top of everything else, I'm not sure I mentioned it, but my wife and I are having our first baby end of July. There's a lot going on, huh? [:)]

Man, we're like mirror-image people or something. That was the plan for the wife and I too. Except to postpone it a year (not the move, the inlaws and the kids). Congrats brother, you're gonna be a dad! (heh, cha-ching, every time a baby is born, dollar signs alight in my eyes [:p])...

Good luck with the interview. I'm all for anything that increases my client base by 1! Nah, hehe, looking forward to meeting you when we get down there.

The official plan looks to be: Move out of Jersey on July 8th, paint, unpack, arrange house. Attend NC angelfire prerelase on the 16th (yeah, NC got a qualifier!). Then buckle down and study for the damned licensing exam for the next few weeks.

We could potentially be moving right around the same time... I've got the interview on the 14th, so if they offer me the job and I give my current company 2 weeks... I could be in NC in early July. It's a weird feeling.

So you found a house? Where is it?

Holly Springs, little town on the southwestern edge of Raleigh there. Litter further south than Apex/Cary, maybe 15 miles outside of downtown. Great neighborhood, awesome house. I should find out next week what my work schedule and testing calendar is going to look like (have to sit for 2 different licensure exams).

Cool! My wife's parents bought a house just north of you yesterday... Good stuff.

Btw, I still haven't gotten my confirmation for my travel on Monday, so I'm not holding my breath at this point. I know that the interview will happen eventually, but I've been stuck at the same stage for 8 weeks now. [:(] As always, I'll keep you all posted.

What neighborhood in Cary?

Also Kiddoc, the MLS listing for your has been pulled. I was going to do a mapquest to see how far away you were (but it is close either way).

I'm smack in the middle of Cary. You can't be much closer to the center of our small little town than I am.

And yeah ... we got a prerelease! So if you guys are around for mid-July we'll have a hoot! Heck if you're around next weekend you can drive up to VA with me for the qualifier.

408 Acorn Falls--Standard Holly Springs zip Chris. I'm 10 minutes from Justin in Apex, so I can't be much further than 15 from you.

I'll definately be at the prerelease, though I prefer that they have it in the morning or in the early afternoon (I know most of the folks on the triminis list do too), so I can take everyone (okay, not everyone :p) out for drinks afterwards. Hopefully I can talk some of my college/rugby amigos into coming as well.

I won't be in NC this weekend. Have to visit wife's grandmothers in nursing homes this weekend, probably the last time we'll get to see either of them. Otherwise I'd try and make the New England prerelease.

Definately planning a nice housewarming party for sometime after we get down (we'll see how the funds are), that should be a good time. We've been looking for an excuse to actually use the 2 dozen margarita glasses we got for our wedding 4 years ago.

Also, just a thought, but would anyone down there possibly be interested in a D&D game. No chance at it starting any time soon, need a couple of months to finalize the client base and work schedule, but I will be looking into joining a new group. I was thinking about DM'ing this time around--maybe a twice-a-month type of thing?

LOL! We got about 2 dozen of these cool martini glasses with zig-zag stems for our wedding 2.5 years ago. We haven't used them either and need a good excuse. We may have a housewarming too...

As for a D&D game, I'm pretty much spread thin with Delegate stuff, DDM, and Living Greyhawk. If you have room for a once-in-a-while player or an assistant DM to do funny voices, I'm in. :) Maybe 8-10 times a year or something like that.

I'd be interested and could probably help you drum up some other players. Most of the folks I know are in the older-married-and-have-kids-or-are-trying-but-still-game-sometimes subculture ... they aren't night owls and that kind of schedule would fit with their lifestyle (you have to work and see the wife sometime).

Looks like 15 miles nearly spot-on.

The game store w/ the pre-release is between us at about th 1/3 mark (closer to me than you).

And what IS your favorite bourbon? I'm not promising anything but I can always convince Jennie to buy bourbon.

My brother and I just had our D&D group put on hold as 2 of our players are having kids with in the next 2 months and are going to be busy being Daddy's for a long while they said. So I'm always up for a new D&D group.

I'll see you all at the Pre-Release.. hopefully we can get the time thing straightend out.

Alright, doc... I spoke to wifey about being in a regular D&D campaign and she was all for it, so count me in.

What sort of campaign were you thinking about? Is there any possibility we could do some Living Greyhawk?

...I suppose we could also check out the new Eberron campaign, too. The RPGA has a campaign in Eberron called "Mark of Heroes" that is getting good responses so far. (It just started.)

That's actually what I was thinking.

Played in the D&D Open out at Gencon last year, it was my first experience with Eberron and I loved it. Been playing in a campaign ever since. Great, great stuff, and I'm hoping I can make it even better. I'd definately do something RPGA certified (who turns down free stuff?), but probably as a homebrew, since I don't like the rigidity of having to run standard modules. So yeah, I was thinking a custom Eberron campaign. I know some folks have issues with it, but I promise if you give it a try, you'll probably like it. Either that or a complete homebrew--as the only campaign books I have are Eberron. Anyhow, seeing as there's some support, I'll look into it more. Hopefully when my work schedule gets settled in, I'll be able to get something started around sept/oct or so.

Oh, and Chris: Woodford Reserve. Cheaper than Makers, and hella better.

I have really enjoyed Living Greyhawk since I can take my PC and play anywhere, plus the storylines are ongoing and you can play at pretty much any convention. I would love to have a regular Living Greyhawk group to play with and start the Gran March storylines with.

Eberron could be cool too. I would like to build up characters to use at the big conventions, though. You can sometimes take a few liberties with the published modules to make them feel less rigid and more like a home campaign. We'll talk. :)

Yeah, I've had some fun playing with L.G. too, unfortunately I just don't know the world well enough. As for building up your Mark of Heroes Character, I wouldn't bother--they're on the Legacy of the Green Regent format, which means that you have to follow a preset "level" format. Meaning that the characters really aren't "persistent" the way they are in a Living Greyhawk campaign. They have several Level Bumps over the course of the year where even if a character isn't of that level yet, you suddenly warp up to that level. If you jump into the campaign mid year, you created a character of that level, with all the gear you can buy. So, "leveling up" as it were really isn't all that useful. Probably the most useful thing you can do in that sort of campaign is trade for or buy the campaign cards that let you unlock special classes, feats, races, and items.

Anyhow, like ya said, we'll talk. [:D]

Beyond minis, if I make it to any of the major cons Eberron is the only thing I really have a strong desire to play. Yeah, I love signing up for demos, leagues, etc. but Eberron really appeals to me.

Plus I've got this hankering to play a low-self-esteem Warforged. It would amuse the heck out of me.

Oooh, a StrongSad Warforged, we can do that. Hehe.

Yeah, I'm definately leaning more toward Eberron. The world is just dripping with flavor, and it's relatively new to people, so roleplaying comes easier, while metagaming is a little more difficult (and a DM's job is a bit more "believable" since so much information is still missing). Anyhow, if you guys are interested we can continue the conversation over email. I don't want to clutter up the boards here.

I'm a herald level DM (who isn't these days?), so getting the RPGA sanctioning is a piece of cake. We might even be able to run a single-serving Mark of Heroes campaign with a different set of characters from time to time, just so you have some available for Convention use and so you understand how the campaign works. Like I said, once you create a base character, they level up every few months or so, even if you never use them. I am well acquainted with a few uppity-ups in the RPGA, so maybe I can get them to grace us with a few trinkets here and there (campaign cards and such).

For a home game though, I'd much prefer to avoid the Mark of Heroes format. I'd rather allow you guys the freedom to start with any (reasonable) race/class and create thoughtful, personalized characters, and develop them at your own pace without (unnecessary) limitations.

Anyhow, drop me a line and let me know what you think (so we don't clutter up the thread here--I'll get an email list going once you all send me one--and maybe a yahoo groups site). It's still a ways off, but it gives me something to work on while I'm in the moving/packing/studying "downtime."

Woo, house warming parties! I'll bring some wine... I'm a wine and beer person myself, I don't drink liquor. It'll be cool having you guys in town. I'm one of the single gamers, and I know a good mix and number of single gamers and married ones. I don't play the D&D Roleplaying Game, but I have a friend that wants to rope me in. I stay pretty busy so I doubt I could play in yours twice a month, kiddoc. I'd definately be up for some 16 oz. curls after the prerelease tournament. I try to work that arm out once a week or twice. I found out yesterday that I was selected to be on Gencon staff working with Ian Richards on miniatures. My primary role will be to help run and judge the first Axis and Allies Miniatures league as well as running demos and assisting with the miniatures leagues for DDM and SWM on Thursday and Friday. Is anyone else planning to go? I know Chris is going to go if he places at the qualifier. I figure you're going too Kiddoc to defend the title.

Dave, whenever you find out when you'll be moving, let us know so we can realign the delegate stores as needed so you don't go on probation. Both of us are visiting 6 each right now. There are a few more in Raleigh and the outskirts that are semi-hybrid that could use a visit. I have about 3 stores that I want to hang out too for sure.

That's cool... We really only need 3 each anyway.

Congratulations on being picked for A&A! That's some really good stuff... They made an excellent choice!

Are you going to the Six Flags event in GA in August? I'll have a newborn in the house, so I can't make it... but it sounds really cool.

Yeah, we can work something out. I know of two off hand that I haven't been visited, one is in Wake Forest and one is in Raleigh. The Raleigh one is a hybrid, they mainly sell sporting stuff specifically nascar so we should be good. It's nice having more than 3 stores though so you don't end up visiting the same store each month.

I am so excited about the A&A stuff. I got some questions answered from Ian Richards today now all I need to know is when to get there and when to leave. Come on Ian get to it, [:o)]. Ian seems like a trip based on the previous e-mail I got from him. Thanks for the congrats, it should be a lot of fun. I'll be getting some advance info on the game, I may recruit some people to play with me and help me learn about it assuming I'm not under a NDA. It'll be interesting getting involved at the ground level of the game.

Congrats on the newborn, I didn't know you were having a kid, I mean your wife is having the kid [:p]. I don't think I'll go either, and I don't have enough vacation time. I'll already be gone for Gencon in August.

Yeah, Ian is a great guy. Or chap... since he's english. :) I had a nice long talk with him at the very end of GenCon last year. He actually recommended me for the Delegate program... I sent an email to him on the Monday after GenCon thanking him for the conversation, and he sent the message on to Michael Gills. Pretty cool.

Good luck with A&A! I may be playing that one more actively... My wife is in favor of it, so that's always a plus! hehe

Yeah, he's a trip. The message ended up getting blanked out, lol. I found out I will only see the rules in advance, and I'll be under a NDA so I can't share unfortunately. I'm sure I had more here, I just can't remember and it's late.

I remembered what I had written.

I'll try to bring some promos back if there are any. I might leave Gencon with some AAM so we can play before the September release assuming I get some. They said I would get a case of boosters as part of my compensation, but they didn't say which game. I will be able to see the rules in advance, but I'll be under a NDA so I won't be able to share. I won't get any of the miniatures in advance either, they are getting them just for Gencon.

I leave for Cincinnati tomorrow morning, and won't get back to RTP until September 10th, but if you have extra room in your RPG game, I would be up for it.

I unfortunately won't make the prerelease at AF&G, but I’ll be going to the one just north of Cinci, and I'll also only be about 30 minutes from a qualifier so I’m planning on getting my but kicked at it. Hopefully with only high speed internet and no TV at my apartment in Cinci, I'll actually spend sometime on Vassal and get some practice in before the qualifier.

I look forward to meeting you all when I return to the RTP area in September. Oh and as somebody who did their undergrad in KY, how can you diss Makers Mark. I'll definitely be restocking my supply while I can drive to KY and get it cheap.

Hehe. Not dissin' The Mark. In fact, one of my grad-school cohort who is a great fishing buddy of mine is from Owensboro KY, so he used to bring is MM all the time (although one time he brought us a 35 year old bottle of Kentucky Tavern, remind me to tell you that story in person). No, Makers is great, but Woodford is better, and cheaper. Living in New Orleans for such a long time gave me a good while to perfect my bourbon taste. I'll likely drink Haydon or Makers if somebody else is paying, but if I'm paying, my money's on the Woodford. [:D]

I'll keep you posted on the game, it likely won't start until Sept. or Oct. anyway. Have a great time in Cincy, we'll see you when you get back.

Oh, and good luck to any of you guys (Grovesie I know is going) at the qualifier tomorrow.
