Woohoo nothing like a group that wants to work together. This is going to be the best campaign I have been a part of in a long time. No in fighting, or characters that seem to want to take the party over. Just a really good mix of heroes that want to work together.

Not really, I've run some pretty good ones over the years. It just takes a bit of effort at the start to get everyone on the same page.

Here's a character I had made up for Kerry to play when we were first getting this camapign rolling a while ago. He was never used, too bad Kerry didn't like him for some reason....

Name: Theodorus "Tubby" Waters

Male 1st level cleric of Wenta (CG Lesser Goddess of Autumn, West Wind, Harvest and Brewing)

Domains: Good and Plant
Favored Weapon: Club
Alignment: Chaotic Good

STR: 16
DEX: 8
CON: 13
INT: 12
WIS: 18
CHA: 14

Armor Class: 15
Hit Points: 9

Skills
Knowledge Religion, 4 ranks
Healing, 2 ranks
Craft (Brewing), 4 ranks
Diplomacy, 2 ranks
Concentration, 4 ranks

Feats
Disciple of the Sun (Complete Divine)
Endurance

Possessions
Scale Mail
Heavy Wooden Shield
Light Crossbow
Club
Backpack with waterskin
1 day of trail rations
Bedroll
A sack
Fancy vestments
Flint and steel
1 keg of beer
Wooden holy symbol of Wenta
case with 10 crossbow bolts
3 torches
2 gold pieces

Background
Theodorus "Tubby" Waters hails from the small village of Flork in the Kingdom of Keoland. His family were farmers by trade for generations including his parents and 14 siblings.

His family were simple folk, content to live a life of toil and drudgery but "Tubby" always felt he was destined for greater things. He carried himself with an air of false superiority even while shoveling out the large family pig pens.

In the evening "Tubby" would study the only book available to him by the light of a pig fat candle. That book was a treatise on brewing by a priest of Wenta that he found mixed in with the hog slop.

This put the idea in his head of brewing his own beer at the tender age of 10. Soon "Tubby" was secretly stashing a portion of the family harvest to brew his own beer in a nearby cave. This led "Tubby" to develop an alcohol addiction at a young age, not to mention put on a fair deal of weight which is how he earned his nickname.

Given a busy farm and too many children to notice them all the Waters family never noticed their son was off a lot and drunk more often than not. By the time a couple seasons had passed "Tubby" had become a devout worshipper of Wenta and begun selling his beer to local farmers.

Finally when "Tubby" was 15 his parents did discover what their son had been up to lo those many years. They demanded that their son stop his boozing ways and the worship of Wenta and return to tilling the soil and the family worship of Beory. "Tubby" flatly refused and ran away from home tired of living with those who didn't appreciate his importance.

For the next few years "Tubby" wandered from town to town learning some more of the ways of Wenta and religion in general but for the most part his time was spent hanging out in taverns and doing odd jobs for beer money.

Finally when in the city of Verbobonc "Tubby" settled down into as an acolyte in a small temple of Wenta. After a couple years "Tubby" graduated into a full fledged cleric of Wenta although his inflated sense of self importance strained relationships with the priests of the temple more than a few times.

"Tubby" never felt truly comfortable with his fellow priests anyway. They never shared his grandness and mocked his fine vestments. "Tubby" decided to strike out on his own with the goal of making his own temple. That way he could worship in his own fashion and finally be in control. Of course temples cost money and he was quite poor.

One day while in a tavern "Tubby" overheard about a dungeon that mysteriously appeared new Homlet. Dungeons are famous for making young priests rich so "Tubby" struck out for Homlet with his last keg of beer in hopes of raising a fortune to build his destiny.

Feel free to use him if you like.

Just putting it out there that I am happy to play whatever is necessary for the group. I am leaning towards either an Elven Bard as a secondary caster for the group, or a master of the that most humble of weapons the quarterstaff to serve on the front lines with Ugh.

A second melee fighter would certainly be a good option.

The way I see it with Nico (Barbarian), Chris L (Cleric), Rob (Rogue), and myself (Wizard) we have the basic classes more or less covered.

So it comes down to Scott and Smythe to roshambo it out over who gets to be the support caster type and who gets to be the second sword-slinger.

Hello,

Thanks to Mike for that web link.

As of right now I am considering a cleric of Tyr, Mystra or Lathander.  Would this create any problems for others?

Cheers

I don't see any of them creating a problem. My character will likely end up worshipping Lathander and Mystra. Bach has set the party's alignement as NG so all characters must be at most one step away from that.

but all the fun takes place on the diagonals. Nothings more fun than CN clearly the Quaterstaffmaster is CN and a follower of Garagos the god of Skill-at-Arms. And No Bard has ever been anything but Chaotic Neutral, except maybe Chaotic Evil hmm....

Good aligned parties work best for group harmony. Zowie is Neutral Good, Nico's barbarian with his 6 Intelligence is only a few steps above an animal and True Neutral but he takes his orders from me.

Here is Zowie's revised backstory for the Forgotten Realms so you know what you'll be dealing with.

Zowie hails from the village of Eveningstar in the Kingdom of Cormyr. An only child her parents were simple farmers and much of Zowie's early life was spent in solitude upon the family farm reading. Her only companion was a lone hedgehog she took in and named Apples.

Her parents were devout worshippers of Lathander and while Zowie shares their religion she possessed and even greater intellectual curiosity to learn about the world around her. While her parents were busy working the fields or attending services Zowie was here and there immersed in one adventure or another with her ever faithful companion Apples.

Around when Zowie was 12 the outlying farms of Eveningstar were raided by an army of hobgoblins from the Stonelands. Her parents along with dozens of others were slain in the brutal raid, Zowie herself was only spared due to the fact that she was off exploring a cave at the time of the raid.

Orphaned and alone Zowie was taken in by various surviving neighbors and the priests of the Lathander. The teachings of Lathander helped young Zowie to give up the hate and anger she felt toward the Hobgoblins for her parents deaths and channel it into positive direction. This new became the study of arcane magic.

During this time Zowie was constantly sneaking away into Eveningstar proper to learn all she could about being a wizard. She would pester traveling mages with questions on the arcane arts, apprentice herself to whomever could stand her precocious nature for a time, and practice with Apples for hours on end daily until she had mastered the basic castings at the age of 13.

At this time Zowie felt that she had learned all she could in Eveningstar and with her best friend Apples packed up her possessions and hit the road to further her magical studies. Her travels took her all over Cormyr and the lands beyond. Zowie proved to be a quick study and her arcane talents advanced quickly, over this period due to her eclectic study history her spellcasting took on a unique twist entwined with her companion Apples. All her spells visually manifested themselves with hedgehog related elements, a fact that Zowie delighted in and caused others to start to believe she was tetched. Zowie's studies eventually led her binding Apples as her familiar.

Her wanderings brought Zowie to all manner of ruins and dungeons across Faerun. Exploring these areas fulfilled her need for adventure and through that caused her to take a special interest in evocation magic, although not to the exclusion of other schools.

When traveling the hills south of Great Glacier, Zowie and Apples discovered a block of ice that appeared to have a human trapped inside. Using a prepared Burning Hands spell Zowie melted the ice to reveal the trapped figure was in fact a frozen Neanderthal hunter. With little more intelligence than an animal the freed savage kneeled before Zowie, worshipping her as a god.

Amused by the neanderthal's antics at first Zowie soon grew frustrated with the barbarian following her around where ever she went. Resigned to the fact that the savage man would never leave her Zowie instead decided to make the best of the situation. She took the time to teach the neanderthal basic common and learned his name was Ugh. From there Zowie brought her on her adventures as a bodyguard and porter.

Nicely done my friend. I still think that Zowie should have named him Ugh, but it should have been simply a disgusted ugh at the smelly man beast that followed her everywhere that he eventualy understood meant she was refering to him.

"Champion of the Centaur Commander. Knight of the Gnoll Druid. Vindicated Champion of the Dragon Wrought Kobold!

10/23/2006 2:13 PM
I've been deliberating about my character selection for a while. I have a few concepts I'm working on, but am wracked with indecision. So here is a new feature on this thread, done in the maxminis tradition...

Vote for my New Character

1. Human Fighter.
Name: Lochlin Steele (Has a few aliases, that may even be one of them...)
Backstory: a washed up, ex military derserter with a penchant for liquor, women, and bad decisions. He comes to the group on the lam from serving with a bunch of unsavoury mercs. Feeling that there must be a better life than burning villagers huts for the local crimelord. Unfortunately he still owes a bit of money to that crimelord over a few bad games of Three Dragon Ante.....

2. Human Swashbucker
Name: Octavio Gaston
Backstory: After a brief stint in a travelling circus, and a bad experience on a pirate ship with a certain Capt. Jack Swallow, Octavio has set out in pursuit of high times of fast adventure, or something like that. A man with a sword must find a woman without one, and off he goes! Quicker of blade than wit, faster than the last guy, and humble in the knowledge of his soon to be greatness, Octavio brings his panache to your meager fledgling group.

3. Human Paladin
Name: TBA (Sir Blank of Blank, son of Blank {or so he thinks})
Backstory: A young lad looking for his future, is confronted with the lost details of his past. There are shadows and skeletons there to be sure. Can he rise above them? Or will he fail?

4. Halfling Druid
Name: TBA (maybe Woody, but that is kinda cliche)
Backstory: Spending most of his days skipping stones, talking to trees, generally goofing off and throwing things, this young basket-weavers apprentice left home early to find, well...something other than basket weaving. Taken in by a friendly treant and learned in the ways of nature, he choose to embark on a "great wandering", to see the world, help plants grow, and looking to uncover Nature's great mysteries (and throw things). (Insert Name Here) and his loyal riding dog (insert dogs name here) soon find themselves in the company of some bold adventurers.

Well there you go. That's what I was doing the last 20 minutes instead of working. Vote for what you think would best round out your adventuring group. I may even listen to the results. And feel free to offer a suggestion or two.

Halfling Druid all the way. Here's a better name for him too, Twig. The Treant gives him that nickname cause he's so small. Of course his dog's name has to be Berries.

I say go with the Halfling Druid, but play it straight.  No Twig and Berries at all.  Well, I suppose Twig would work, but how about Filo or Dellis or Millan for the riding do?

Score:
Character 1 Human Fighter (ex military merc)- 1 vote
Character 2 Human Swashbuckler (low wisdom show-off) - 0 votes
Character 3 Human Paladin (with a troubled past) - 0 votes
Character 4 Halfling Druid (with faithful riding dog) - 2 vote

If there is a tie, we may have to settle this like gamers....with dice.

When I was thinking what to roll up for a character, I was leaning toward something with decent fighting capability to be a secondary fighter. I don't know if the Halfling would do this, or if this is important to the group or not. I think a halfling druid could do so from ranged, with slingstones, darts and javelins. Later when he has decent spells and wildshape, this could change. Maybe a level of rogue would help with sneak attack too. Hmmm....

Berries the St. Bernard is kinda growing on me though.

A lot depends still on where Smythe goes but I don't think we necessarily need that second fighter type if the sum of the other characters can add up to that in melee ability. Halfling druid and elven bard is a pretty good combo to add to the party, gives us a lot of diverse skills.

Then again if Smythe goes with his quarterstaff fighter were good to go as well.

My vote is the Swashbuckler...but the halfling druid sounds cool and probably a lot of fun. But the Swashbucler would be lots of fun too so that has my vote!!!

Furthermore there will be absolutely no getting down with the Barbarian...especially with an Elf...or Druids...or whatever else...
He would need a lot of alcohol and that is what got him frozen and in trouble the 1st time.

The paladin character is like an old friend. A newer version of an older character. He's not just a good guy, he's a good guy with a closet full of skeletons.

Anyway, that's 4 votes now. Only 3 more to go. Bach said he was abstaining, and I think I should do the same. So that makes 1, and you know who you are Smythe!

Score:
Character 1 Human Fighter (ex military merc)- 1 vote (Idzy)
Character 2 Human Swashbuckler (low wisdom show-off) - 1 vote (Nicco)
Character 3 Human Paladin (with a troubled past) - 0 votes
Character 4 Halfling Druid (with faithful riding dog) - 2 vote (jacksonm, Omand)

1 more vote for either 1 or 2 would make it a tie. A vote for number 4 would make it like a Winnipeg Mayoral race (and maybe I'd name my St. Bernard Katz). A vote for the unloved Paladin would also clinch it for the druid. Unless of course Bach pipes up and votes.

So where are you Smythe-man? C'mon and let's settle this!
