The priests were unable to help us get Lannister out, but they know the difference between right and wrong. Regardless of what the town guard is willing to believe, if the priests are convinced of Lannister's innocence, they should be willing to help out if they can because, after all, it's the right thing to do!

Lannister's Legal Defence

We tried tracking down the lady who framed him - but she was gone.

Strangly no one though to persue Feena out of town and track her down to clear Lannister's good name.....

sadly i am too busy with my charitable business venture to try and find someone to track down this woman who stole the gems. didn't get to write up a business plan or anything. woe is me. guess i will have to sit back and watch lannister get strung up. short drop and sudden stop for the moral void of the fellowship.

Lannister Lazenby's Prison Journal:

Day 1:
Woke up.
Ate gruel.
Talked to Parker, my spider friend. He's busy spinning his web and ignores me for the most part.
Ate gruel.
Went to sleep.

Day 2:
Woke up.
Ate gruel.
Talked to Parker, my spider friend. Web is finished now. He's waiting for some bugs, but he says he won't share.
Ate gruel.
Went to sleep.

Day 3:
Woke up.
Ate gruel.
Talked to Parker, my spider friend. He caught a fly overnight. He's wrapped it up. It looks better than gruel.
Ate gruel with no flies.
Went to sleep.

Day 4:
Woke up.
Ate gruel. Wish I had some flies for it.
Talked to Parker, my spider friend. He's sucked his fly dry, and is waiting for more.
Ate gruel. Screw the flies, I'd only get wings stuck in my teeth anyhow.
Went to sleep.

Day 5:
Woke up.
Ate gruel. Mmmm....gruel. It's kinda squishy this morning.
Talked to Parker, my spider friend. He caught another fly, wrapped him up and is sucking him dry.
Ate gruel. Drier tonight.
Went to sleep.

Day 6:
Woke up.
Ate gruel. Good consistancy today.
Talked to Clarke, my new friend. He's a fly. I warn him about Parker. My spider friend rages with jealousy.
Ate gruel. It's lumpy and wet. I'd send it back if the guard would stick around. Maybe they could dress it up with some caviar.
Went to sleep.

Day 7:
Woke up.
Ate gruel. Mmmmm gruel is better today.
looked about for Clarke. Ahhh! Parker, what have you done!
Ate gruel. Extra protein helps give it some lift. Spider legs got stuck in my teeth.
Went to sleep.

Shadowdale Light Fellowship Chronicles - part VIII July 3 2007

First Person Narrative by Lannister Lazenby

Gawain comes to my cell and wants me to admit to the theft. If I lead the authorities to the gems, they will let me go. If I admit to the crimes, but not the jewels, they will kill me but let the group take my body. Hmmmm…some choices. I decide to await my trial. He also tells me that Blix is gone. Yay! Wait a tick, it must be him who took them and planted the jewels on me.

Trial day comes. The court room is packed. It’s nice that if noting else I’ve achieved a degree of notoriety. The Judge is an old guy, Leroy Von Cleft. They take half an hour to make their case. They interrogate the guy who sold me the lockpicks, the tailor I was gambling with, the town guards, and more. Gawain then takes the stand and cross examines them. We take a break and toss ideas around. I think of demanding trial by combat!

We then head back to the courtroom. Gawain calls witnesses, including the barmaid I slept with, the red headed merchant, and the bartender from the Blue Pawn. Gawain does a good job trying to make it look like I was occupied when the crime took place.

Meanwhile a note shows up, delivered to Veil. It is in Goblin, which Veil can’t read. He brings it to Gawain, who brings it to me. It is from Blixx, who claims to have found a woman, and some stuff, and they are on their way here and will arrive back in town in 2 days. Gawain asks for a stay of proceedings to allow time for Blixx to get back to town. Did he find Feena? Did he find the jewels? And why would Blixx do this for me?

Felix takes the stand and tries his monosyllabic best to help me out. He tells them I like my drink, and I like to sleep, and I try to get out of watch duty as often as I can. On cross examination he tells the court I break a lot of lock-picks. He also says I am obsessed with that jeweled scimitar and that I would do anything to get it back (oh Felix…..). Gawain steps up and gets Felix to clarify his points (whew).

Veil gets called to the stand. Veil concurs with Felix about me slacking off, sleeping deeply, and shirking watch duty. Thanks Veil! Gawain asks about the night the jeweled scimitar was stolen, and about me not waking up. I pipe up and tell Veil it was his fault for not waking me up. Then the court bailiffs muzzle me for contempt! Jeez!

Cutter is up next, but his testimony is brief.

Gawain against his better judgment calls me to the stand. He grills me on a bunch of topics we’ve already covered, including the women, sleep, the jeweled sword, goblins, lock-picks, and so on. I get cross examined as well. There is lots more of the same questions. The trial is put into recess until the one remaining witness arrives.

The next day we hang around court, and suddenly Blixx shows up. Gawain puts him on the stand. Blixx shows the court a bunch of jewelry. Blixx explains that he trailed Feena and her companions to a nearby village. They tried to confront her about the jewels, and they attacked him. They killed his two friends, and knocked him unconscious. Blixx managed to get the jewels before the fight, and made straight for the court. The Duchess shows up and identifies her necklace. Blixx passes out in the court room exhaustion.

The magistrate ponders the case, and comes back to say the Duchess has dropped the charges against me. But there is a condition that I go and hunt down Feena and recover the jewels. I say to him “It will be my pleasure to track down Feena and recover the jewels (in as painful of a way as possible), and return them to the good Duchess!” He bangs his gavel and dismisses us. I walk up to Blixx, shake his hand and say thank you. I’m having a better feeling about this.

Here's the breakdown as it is now.

Nymagus has left to persue his destiny with Alhandra. Lannister is out of jail, his local reputation greatly enhanced by the trail.

Lannister owns a small but now prosperous tavern in Urmlaspyr. Casey has werewolves to kill.

Gawain's reputation as a sucessful litegator is spreading. Veil has avenged his father's death. Thagnor is drunk.

Cutter has yet to Frenzied Bersek a fellow party member to death. You no longer have a mage in the party.

You have maps to dungeons left to explore, yet 2 less goblins to do it with.

Felix has yet to summon his mount. Lannister must have his vengance against Feena.

Depending on how you look at it the party can remain together to work for common goals or the may go their seperate ways and their adventures together will come to an end.

As I see it there is still plenty to do with these characters. That being said if the majority of you wish to start anew we can do so.

Sigh. A brave and noble adventuring party needing their goblins thralls to bail them out of a situation? Tsk Tsk.

But even more distressing, you're thinking of disbanding the company of pretty lights? Gasp, that would be like, I dunno, disbanding one more of the innumberable FR adventuring groups.

Hard call to make here. While I like Lannister, and there is still stuff to do with the character, a new campaign is tempting.

Who brought up the idea and why? Who will be the DM? Is a nautical campaign going to be limited in any way (classes, races, etc...)? What world is it on? Without knowing the details, it is hard to say.

I have some new character ideas, but that would be determined by trhe scores, so how do those get generated?

If I had to vote, I'd vote to stay with the current campaign, and set a time limit or goal on it. If Lannister tracks down Feena and Casey gets his Lycanthropes, and we can do that in, say 4 more sessions, then I'd say switch. Details on the new campaign/characters can be worked out in that time.

It more or less came out of not having the Wizard around anymore and the possibility of a hung rogue. Not to mention what would happen if Felix went ahead with his suicide jailbreak plan.....

I'd be running again, Forgotten Realms again. I don't want to throw to many details out there for something that might not happen. As for stats this time we'd be going with my stat block methed should that be the path we choose.

The problem with switching is Len leaves in a couple months. So if we switch it would make sense to do it now, othewise I we should drive hard with what we have now.

Though some people want to be members of Salty Pete's crew once more....

Casey does still have quite a bit that he would want to do. He's obviously big on helping track down Feena, as he's doing it solo right now. Depending on how things go, a grievous injury or horrific sight could convince him to retire at any time, or he may even die. It would not be unthinkable to bring Feena to justice and simply retire here and turn the Rusty Trollope into a prosperous business venture. If things go well and he doesn't sustain any major injuries, Casey will likely want to go on the were-hunt, especially if it leads toward Shadowdale where he could potentially run into Nymagus as the mages absence will be felt. Also, as much as Lannister's equipment is likely better than the scimitar was, I joined this group initially to help track it down.

I love Mike's nautical campaigns! That said, I'm half way through my tenure here in Winnipeg and we've just gotten to the levels where things become interesting. To start a new campaign now would have me leaving at this point again. In reality, I'd rather actually keep playing and get to something interesting. I can go with either campaign, but I reckon we need a mage to be feasible. I think the party needs its rogue, cleric and brute (Cutter) in place. So, perhaps either the ranger, paladin or bard may sacrifice themselves in bringing Feena to justice, to be replaced by a wizardly sort. Or we could try to make a go of it without a mage and see what happens.

That all said, here's what I propose:

1) Vote 1: Continue vs. New Campaign

2) If Vote 1 = Continue, then Vote 2: New Mage vs. No Mage

3) If Vote 2 = New Mage, Vote 3: Decide in game vs. Decide out of game on who plays the Mage

For me, if I may be so bold as to cast my votes already, I would say 1) Continue, 2) New Mage, 3) Decide in game

Stat block method? Explain this most perplexing formula generation method.

I think having a mage is a good thing. I'd be willing to roll up another character and run him/her as well.

Maybe Lannister backtracks (or retrains), takes the leadership feat, and attracts a mage follower.

Maybe we just meet somebody else and invite them to join the party (...I see your party has no mage, might I join you on your quest...)

Maybe our Feena is really a mage, who needs our help and duped us under duress as she was being blackmailed by a more sinister force, working behind the scenes......

Oh the possibilities..........

One character per player. You barely get enough game time in to play Lannister.

The stat block method works thusly. I roll up 50 different stats, you as the player choose any 6 consecuative in a row. It allows you to pick your key stat and yet have those around it decided by random fate. Makes for interesting combos like Wizards with high strengths and the like.

For example this might be a stat block.

12, 17, 10, 09, 18, 14, 14, 14, 15, 14,
17, 13, 08, 15, 16, 11, 12, 14, 11, 16,
13, 11, 11, 14, 17, 12, 15, 11, 16, 12,
16, 13, 18, 12, 09, 08, 15, 13, 12, 14,
11, 15, 16, 13, 14, 10, 14, 12, 11, 15,
09, 17, 11, 15, 12, 14, 13, 15, 12, 13

If you wanted to be a Wizard you might want an 18 INT and chose these:

12, 17, 10, 09, 18, 14, 14, 14, 15, 14,
17, 13, 08, 15, 16, 11, 12, 14, 11, 16,
13, 11, 11, 14, 17, 12, 15, 11, 16, 12,
16, 13, 18, 12, 09
, 08, 15, 13, 12, 14,
11, 15, 16, 13, 14, 10, 14, 12, 11, 15,
09, 17, 11, 15, 12, 14, 13, 15, 12, 13

Giving you STR 12, DEX 16, CON 13, INT 18, WIS 12, CHA 9.

To be honest, I am enjoying Felix and believe he is going to be
getting more interesting for me. The wizard or mage is something
I could do if you guys want me to but I am not interested in it. I
might want to try it at the start of a new campaign.

I think a more adept/apt person should play it this far in cause I tend to have
a low learning curve and they would need to be fairly good with it for what
we are facing these days. If you really want me to I would do it .

So I guess my vote goes like this: I wish to continue as Felix.

If we went with a Sea campaign (Darrius did do some magic last time) then
I would do the mage or wizard from the lower level start.

For me the sea campaign could be fun - it was last time but Len is right.
We are just starting to get somewhere now.

So I think it's pretty much agreed we continue as is. Therefore this Wednesday we will resume the action more or less where we left off with Casey in hot persuit of Feena and Lannister being released from the slammer.

This weeks bonus...... 100 XP to everyone who posts on what they think the party's next course of action as a group should be. Double that to the player's who's plan is accepted.

I think we should continue as we would have!

We take care of Feena by helping out Casey and conclude Lannisters
near death story plot! We are the Shadowdale Lightfellowship so we
continue to Shadowdale as we were doing...it was supposedly on the
way to dealing with the were-wolves which is as Casey wanted.

We may catch up with Nymagus and assist him yet in dire need. He is
not all powerfull so would he survive the trip back...??? My back story
plot has some mystery in it yet that I want to see fleshed out if it ever
does...I still need to call my stead yet!

Ontop of all that...Felix the Paladin would feel compelled to continue to
help our Lady! He was charged with a quest - unless there are really
good reasons why we aren't wanted to help that quest anymore.

Were we not part of some divine prophesy or revelation? Could they
not have forseen the dvision in our ranks but we solidify again as a party
to do the right thing?

Bach/Nymagus isn't part of the campaign anymore so...this was our
destiny our charge our fate. Perhaps by rushing off he gets himself killed
and we have to take up the call once again and bring back his broken
body and sacred weapon.

Ultimately Mike is going to weave the story so it makes sense so this may
or may not be possible. But i was really interested in this plot and we were
delaying cause our Lady was not ready yet. She could be ready now! There
was that huge dungeon to check out Lannister...probably lots more jewels
where the other came from...?

I think Casey had some more were-wolves in that area. We didn't finish in the
area and that dungeon was probably huge. Casey might want to retrieve that
Jeweled Scimatar...just sayin...not too likely but we could follow that up. We
had an army after us and the fate of the Elves in our hands. Are we gonna say
- hey lets disband or do something less dangerous cause we love lives - cowards!!!

What would Cutter say of all this? Isn't he part Elf? Doesn't he have a stake in
this too. And we have Cutter - he alone could decimate the army against us.
They are going to want revenge on us anyway so lets deal some whoop as on
them for a change - lets get our own army together - we only have all the good
Elves on our side already - whether Nygmas wants us to help or not - too bad!!!
He'll take our help and like it!

What say Gwaiin? I think he too would want to see what would happen and have us
an integral part to save a race. Lathander seemed to put us in the middle. Isn't
part of a Gods plan is to have us go on no matter what?

Ontop of all that...if we don't conclude the story we began (still doing our side stories)
we will be doing a different Campaign. This was our Campaign to begin with...we just
got sidetracked a bit! Do we truly want the bard's tale of the Shadowdale Light
Fellowship to be one of Cowardice...?

Hey if we go this root Felix the II probably will die a noble death against the odds.
And then Felix the III the wizard would probably show....

So my 100 XP posting...Continue the Campaign as we originally intended!!!!
Zounds....Hoe!!!!!!

Okay, Pot Roast versus George's ... Mhhhmmmm?

George's you can order meat the size of small badies heads (Pot Roast Size)

Or... you can try and let Nico cook a pot roast in Scott's microwave in the
basement. Gravy could be bought extra...but somehow this Nico guy is
just gonna make it worse. I have heard that he says and does strange things.

Anyone want to bet he'll bring the flour and try and do it himself ...

George's anyone ... Writer X

Well since I am back from the far North I will put in my two cents.

I would be somewhat dissapointed if we concluded this campaign here, it was just starting to get to the higher levels and I was really enjoying it.

But since it has been decided that we are going to stick with it, heres what I think we should be doing:

Clearly we need to get back to Shadowdale and continue with our destiny as Alahndra's companions/champions.  That said I'm not sure that she is ready for us to take on that role for her yet, I imagine Storm might have contacted us to return if it was time.

So I think we can safely finish with Feena, and maybe even go after the werewolves with Casey on our way back to Shadowdale.

After that we can deal with the dungeons we haven't explored completely if Alahndra still isn't ready.

Hello,

Been a bit busy, so a bit late to the party.

I have to agree with Idzy/Cutter/Rob on our direction.  I think we are still growing into the role of heroes to help out Alhandra.  Feena should be a good side trip followed by travel north that should allow Werewolves to be hunted and Shadowdale to be saved (we hope).

As to a new wizard, if he is shadowy that is a concern to me.  Lathander being bright and all that ...

Cheers

Hmm... a few bases to cover here:

1. Party's next course of action:

Well after the sweet taste of freedom comes the bittersweet taste of revenge. Bittersweet as in dark chocolate, with roasted almonds and a side of vintage ruby port. I digress. With clues as to Feena's destination, I think we should saddle up on some fast horses and chase her down. We can recover any other stolen merchandise, claim a sizable reward, and bring a villain to justice. This serves to enhance the party's coffers, help equip us with more powerful items to help on future (foreshadowing: werewolf hunting) quests, and enhance the do-good profile of the Shadowdale Light Fellowship!

Upon returning to Urnsphincter with the vilianess Feena, we depart on a round trip werewolf hunting excursion which will end us up in Shadowdale. We equip ourselves with the latest in werewolf hunting attire and weaponry under direction from our in-the-field-specialist Casey. By dispaching with these fouls beasts we gain further notoriety, and possibly some more loot, as well as valuable experience.

Our round trip destination leads us to Shadowdale, where hopefully Nymagus, Alhandra, and Storm await our return. Have they found out more about our mysterious Drow antagonists? I hope so, as now we are experienced and powerful enough to chase the dirty vermin back down into their deep dark holes and show them a thing or two about messing with surface folk (and take their loot).

With decisive victory in the Underdark, the Shadow Light Fellowship can then plan for the future. Do we set up base in Shadowdale? Do we aspire to train future adventurers? I think Lannister will return to the towns whose name starts with U and try his hand at running the Rusty Trollop bar. It could very well become a haven for adventures, doing much to dispell their unsavoury reputation in Urmspittle (or perhaps, enhance it). That is another story/campaign. (100 xp cha-ching!)

2. Nautical Campaign:

Perhaps at that point, once things have wrapped up, we can look at the nautical campaign. I think we want to see our characters develop a little more. We have some active storylines that will of course lead to others. Let's set a date and goal on this campaign, and then see if we can accomplish the goal by the given date. A good date would be the week after Len's imminent departure. (What date is that by the way?) A good time to roll up new characters and plan for the next thing.

3. Food:

George's is good, pizza is good, but I have another idea to toss out there: Chinese food! We all kick in $10 and get delivery of oodles of noodles, wontons, beef fried rice, sweet & sour chicken, deep fried shrimp, chicken in black bean sauce, gingered pork, or something else.

4. Hire a new Wizard:

With Nymagus' departure a void is left in the party. I think hiring a wizard would be a good thing for the Shadowdale Light Fellowship. Can we find one on short notice in Urmspaltetter? Perhaps we can post a notice of "Wizard Wanted" around town and do auditions? If we are lucky and can introduce one to the party, the question is who will play such a character. I've offered to play a second character, but I know MJ doesn't approve. One of the non-core character class players could retire their present character (temporarily), and take on the role of wizard for a limited time. Perhaps a new player to the group (Garret? Bram? [who has expressed interest in playing D&D] ShadowLord? Richard? Jay?). Or perhaps the best option is an NPC wizard, run by MJ. If we go with an NPC, he can be our guiding influence like Gandolf or Allannon. That always leave the option of the DM running a much higher level NPC, which would aide us greatly (I'm picturing Scotchy the Wizard, a bit of a drunk, but always there when you need him).

5. Lannister's Missing Jewel-encrusted Scimitar:

Sigh.....Let it go Lannister......let it go.......

Uh...it's a long story, about a certain Pass-over dinner and braised pork roast.

Above post edited.

There's always somewhere to go with the characters, I'll leave it up to you the players to say when you've had enough of them.

Georges it is.
