Okay; decisions, decisions! I found Migwin's reasons posted above ... only Jars did not post.

Marvin and Tharnog's reasons are very funny or whimsical; both are really practical. Make Grath laugh!
Who want a smelly monkey in a hot forge ... and ... almost as greedy as bad jug tooting Dwarf!

Cedrith and Migwin's reasons were very touching to the heart - Grath miss you ... WHAAAAA!!!!
Sorely tempted to split 1000 banana bonus between the two!  Migwin should get a in character monologue
story bonus!  Reasons with feeling ... Cedrith think Hadozee SMART!  Me kind to Bird cause me thought you
were going to eat it like all those Chickens' ... last respects you know!

Winner is .... Beregon!  Grath likey lists so me not forget!!!  While his lacked feeling; sentiment was there
in multiple reasons! .... But if could ... I would award a 3 way tie and split 1000 banana bonus three-ways!

Have fun this Wednesday!  Cedrith, Migwin and Beregon ... me likey sentiments a lot ... come find me!!!
It is dark, cold and cramp in this cage ... get em OUT, GET ME OUT!!!

THE SEARCH FOR GRATH commences ... hopefully!!!

Stop monkeying around - thats my job!!!

Tell Josepth (spelling) that i have extras but I missplaced his list. Either way I wouldn't mind
another case I think. Gonna have to sort out my DnD mini's next!!!

Thus a decision has been made. 1000 sweet bonus XP for Beregon, and the same to Grath as well.

Better luck next time everyone.

No Starships, No XP bonus, No Enemy Flinging feats, No Bananas................

Sigh............it's Monday.............

I can order the starships (no deals like last time though, the offer has long passed).
I can chronicle some more fo a small XP bonus.
I can have Migwin throw the enemies anyway, satisfying the role playing aspect if not the power playing aspect.
I can buy me some bananas, and peel them as a send off to poor old Grath.

This week will improve, oh yes, it will improve...........

I should have the details of your feat completed later tonight.

Perhaps you'll even survive long enough to use it on Ilsa de los Tigres de la Muerte.....

Many big wicked DM style shenanigans in the work this week.

I just phoned it in as I ordered yesterday and they are shipping today.  I left a message and hopefully they call back right away, and let me know if they have them, and if they can get them on this order.

I'll let you know when I do!

Editted Update:

Just got off the phone, and my supplier is sold out of those two, and my order has left the building.  So missed it both ways.  They did say that both those figs are on order, and they should have them in the next two weeks.  I will be shipping Heroclix in 2 weeks, so if their timing is good, I should have them then.

Not as quick as I'd like to be, but at least they have both numbers in their computer, so it will be easier to get.

Hello,

Well, Beregon thanks Grath for his confidence and reward.  Beregon does truly miss the big monkey, but one must remain calm and rational in such situations in order to successfully deal with the situation.  One of these days soon Beregon will have enough power to save both his brother and Grath.

As to Garrett, hopefully he is OK and only grounded or something.

See everyone tomorrow for more adventures.

Cheers

Hear to and thereafter follows the deatails of Migwin's Feat.

Modified somewhat from a version I found elsewhere.

Feat: Big Mig Toss [General]
This character is capable of throwing creatures that are smaller than him to great effect, an ability which has been used either to hurt the small creature, or get it to a location it could not otherwise reach.

Prerequisites: 14 Strength, Improved Grapple, and be named Migwin or Buttercup.

Benefit: After making a successful grapple, this character may throw a creature that is smaller than the throwing character. The number of feet that the smaller character can be thrown is found by the following formula: The throwing character’s Strength mod times the number of size categories that the thrown creature is smaller than the throwing character times 10. For example, a size medium character with 14 Strength may use this feat to throw a size small character 20 ft. (2 x 1 x 10). That same character could throw a size tiny creature 40 ft. (2 x 2 x 10).

If he so chose, the throwing character may throw the smaller character as though it were a thrown weapon, up to the distance dictated by the previous formula. If doing so, the character is treated as being proficient in the exotic weapon: thrown person, a weapon which has a 5 ft. range increment and deals damage equal to an unarmed attack dealt by a creature of that size augmented by the thrower’s Strength modifier instead of the thrown person’s.

Special: It should be assumed that the thrown character travels in an arc pattern. For simplicity’s sake, that creature reaches a maximum height of ½ the total distance traveled if thrown horizontally. If thrown vertically, that creature reaches a maximum height up to the distance the throwing character would normally be able to throw and travels a horizontal distance of 5 feet. Thrown characters should take falling damage as is appropriate for the heights they reach (e.g. if a character is thrown 20 ft. horizontally he should take falling damage appropriate to a 10 ft. fall, that same character thrown 20 ft. vertically should take falling damage appropriate to a 20 ft. fall.). The Tumble skill may be used to halve this damage.

The character must also proclaim "Big Mig Smash!" upon throwing someone or risk suffering a possible disabilitating wrenched back.

Takes it or leaves it.

Migwin’s Diary for Flamerule 9th, in the Year of Wild Magic

Marvin investigates a wall mounted panel. Apparently after working away at it he has shut down the forge’s magma flow. Continuing to see if any of us can figure it out, we find an illusionary wall (quite by accident). Jars is continuing to creep everyone else out with his orc concubine. We figure the door is linked to something infernal, and decide to bypass it and head downstairs. We find a room with 8 more orcish women. Jars recruits them to his harem. Another door is there, and from it radiates a foul stench.

We hear the sound of pigs, open the door to find a cavern with a pen, a pile of poop, and a crappy little hut. Tharnog dives into the poo to search for treasure. I am thinking there is something about this ziggurat that is making members of our troupe insane. The dwarf finds a skeleton. A human comes out of the hut. Beregon addresses him: he says his name is Bosephus and he tends the pigs. The pigs are hell pigs, with spikes and red eyes. He doesn’t know much, but he says that the little blue fellers’ come up here with the mushrooms. (Derro? Smurfs?)

Beyond the orc women there is an orc nursery, with their young. We leave them as well. Further on there is a heavy metal door, and further past that Beregons senses a powerful magic. Looking ahead there is a glowing portal in a small room. Marvin opens the lock to the metal door. Beyond is revealed a smokehouse full of dried hell-pork. I try some and it is quite good. So I load up my pack with hell-pork, infernal bacon, and devil sausage.

The room with the portal shows us some kind of runes written around the portal. Jars thinks about going through, but we convince him otherwise. Marvin does taunt him (chicken) a little, but against his nature he decides not to. We debate how far away from this island a magic portal will take us.

We head back to the demon door. Marvin tries to disable/unlock the door. The eyes glow red (apparently as I am around the corner). Everyone disappears into the door except Bosephus and me. I try detecting magic on the door, and apparently some infernal word must be spoken to activate it.

Meanwhile, the rest of the group appears on a 15’ square rock in a pool of molten lava in a large underground cave. There is some kind of machinery over to one side of the chamber. While they are planning a way to get off the island they are set upon by large fire elementals. A fight ensues…

Bosephus leans on the door and it opens. We look in and find a torture chamber. On a torture rack is some hair and some orange fabric (Grath’s hair and pants?). A tiger man jumps out and attacks me. I ask him what he has done with Grath. He says “you’ll never get him”, and attacks again. Bosephus charges in and hits him. I move in for the flank. We duel. I rage but miss a bunch. Bosephus the hitting machine wears him down. I finally get in the death blow. A voice moans behind the door seemingly in pain. I search the tigerman and find some keys. I use them to open the door and find a 10 ft hallway with jail cells on both sides. They are all empty except for the last one. I rush down and use the keys to open the door. It’s Grath, and he has been worked over pretty badly. I feed him a couple of potions, but he passes out from exhaustion.

Marvin shows up and helps me search the torture room, but we don’t find Grath’s belongings. I detect magic on the sword and it is a frost blade. The tigermans shield is also magic. I give the amulet to Bosephus. We go back and help the rest of the missing party climb up the tubes that lead to the forge. We rest by the forge to recover some strength. We debate whether we should go through the portal, delve into the caverns at the back of the pig caves, or return to the ship (& how, considering the wall of zombies). We decide to return to the ship, but the treasure we’ve accumulated is weighing us down.

I go up to the top of the ziggurat to scout out the zombie situation and send Tweeter to Salty Pete. What I find is the whole island on fire, purple skies, and fiery clouds. Crap! Beregon has a look and determines that we are shifting between dimensions. Tweeter scouts it out, and there is no sign of the ship. After much debate, we decide to flee the island via the portal…..

XP - 1500

Party Poll: Help Migwin pick some spells!

Well I'm now a level 6 sorceror. I get a 3rd level spell, plus 1more of every other level for spells known. Tough decisions, and I need some advice. Here is what I'm considering and why:

0 Level
Already have: Detect Magic, Mage Hand, Disrupt Undead, Dancing Lights, Ghost Sound, and Prestidigitation.

Acid Splash - good cheap back up ranged, and you never know when you need some acid.
Read Magic - I can read now, I just don't do it often, and can cast spells off of scrolls I don't know anyways.
Ray of Frost - another cheap back up spell, use it to chill my beers...

1st Level
Already have: Sheild, Magic Missle, Shocking Grasp, Enlarge Person (swapped out Burning Hands just now to get this one)

Gease - lots of fun, trip the bad guys or lube up their weapon handles
Comprehend Languages - Always useful, and I can turn it on whenever we need it.
Ray of Enfeeblement - bring down the opponents abilities, and can use it multiple times if needed.
Truestrike - If I just need to make that one hit.
Reduce Person - looking at Big Mig Toss feat, this could stack very, very, nicely.

2nd Level
Already have: Bulls Strength, Scorching Ray

Invisibility - always handy, can use it on me or someone else.
Shatter - Sonic damage, and can sunder opponents weapons.
Web - sticky & handy
Resist Energy - prevents damage for me or others
Ghoul Touch - paralysis & sickness, could possible backfire and sicken allies, but paralysis is auto double damage.

3rd Level
All new choices here:

Fireball - obviously one of the best for long range artillery
Lightning bolt - same kinda thing, really
Deep Slumber - Could neutralize opponents without killing them. Save that part for later.
Fly - I've always wanted to fly, handy, helps get into possitions for combat - or stay out of it.
Vampiric Touch - hurt enemy, heal self (Can I punch them for extra damage and extra healing?) I'm liking the touch spells as I have a high enough "to Hit" that I can actually use them.
Shrink Item - Hmmm...make some boulders smaller in the morning, and throw/drop them on my enemies. Huge pole hurled like javelins. Anvils. Bonfires. Lots of possibilities here for Mr Throw Things!

Party Challenge:

Come up with the best list and reasons why, and next week I'll throw a pop and bar your way. I want a good balance of offense, defense, & utility. I also want to create a character with character. I'm also open to other suggestions if you have a good reason for it. What does our party need most? Is there duplication with you other casters? Can I pick up something which frees the other casters to study something else? Lots to consider.

Oh will our beloved heroes/crazy people ever get of this acursed island?

Perhaps the glowing portal will be the way......

Speaking of the portal, it will be the focus of this weeks posting bonus. Everyone who posts will earn some bonus XP.

The topic: The portal and what lies beyond it.

Post as detailed a description on what you think lies beyond the lovely, pretty much irresistable glowy purple portal. The better the description the better the XP reward.

And remember, Bosephus doen't know anything about portals he just tends to the pigs.

As for Migwin Spells...

The 0 levels don't really matter, probably read magic because in most cases you'll have a better offensive option than the others.

1st level: truestrike works for your build

2nd level: I'd do resist energy

3rd level: considering your speed motif I'd do fly

For Migwin's spell selection,

0 - Read Magic. Migwin tends to be up close and personal during combat so ranged spells don't really seem to be his forte.

1 - Truestrike. Since Migiwn tends to spend the vast majority of his time with a sword in hand the ability to enhance that seems the most useful to me.

2 - Ghoul Touch. As much as resist energy would have been useful last session and might well find itself useful in the near future the idea of ghoul touch just seems like way more fun. Plus paralized enemies are really easy to throw, just putting that idea out there. As a backup I would go with Web also for the throwing fun I like the idea of making a big web and throwing all the badguys into it so we can pick them off at our leisure, not sure though how much I like that with the idea of the Hawk totem barbarian. It seems a little more like a spider totem guy.

3 - Fly. In spite of the fact that we already know Beregon can cast it it is simply to thematically appropriate for Migwin to join Tweeter in the wide open skies. On a slightly more powerful and less poetic note you could also go with Shrink item, you could shrink those boulders and after releasing them speak the command word so that they return to normal size and the awesomeness ensures. Though the spell only shrinks it by 1/6th so I am not sure exactly how big a boulder you want to be lugging around.

Just my two cents, do with them what you will. As for Mike's challenge of what lies beyond the dark portal I will ponder it a little more and come back with something later.

World of Warcraft stole my soul. WoTC bought it back.

Are you sure you get all those spells? I think at level 6 you just get your first level 3 spell. Then at level 7 you get a 1, 2, 3. Maybe a 0 too, not sure. or do you have some kinda special feat or something that mods it?

Migwin does not get a 1st or 2nd level spell this time, he does get the 0 level and 3rd level spell.

If and when he becomes a 7th level socrerer he would learn a new 1st, 2nd, and 3rd level spell.

Aaarh! My Bad. It was late last night and I must have been looking at one line in the book, writing down a number, then looking (mistakenly) at the next line a writing it down also. I thought I got 1 of each level added to my repertoire. Did I say it was late? So I am mistaken and only get another 0 and a 3rd level spell. Oh well, I can always look lforward to next level.

Any other thoughts?

Oh just one more question for all you people with smarts. Does the spell Vampiric Touch work if my touch happens to be Punch (I have the Improved Unarmed Combat Feat, 1d3+str lethal damage). What happens:

1. No, can't stack a melee attack and spell touch attack.
2. Yes, add the damage from the melee/touch combo to damage dealt to foe, and gain that much HP.
3. Yes, add the damage from the melee/touch combo to damage dealt to foe, but only gain HP equal to the spells (3d6 for me).

I think there is a little open to interpretation here. Matt is with me and he says #2 (only because I have the feat). I think most characters at this level are stacking feats and attacks, so here is simply a creative use of that. It would help Mig stay up in combat longer.

3, assuming you make a normal attack roll, not a melee touch attack.

I can live with #3. Might miss with the attack roll being not as good as making a melee touch attack, but stiil good chances for a buffed up barbarian. It keeps with the theme of the character too.

Well you might not get them all now, but will eventually so here goes:

0 Level
Acid Splash - not that you need a ranged attack, as you are in melee most of the time, but you never know when you might need the acid to eat through the bars of the prison your in.

1st Level
Truestrike - Enhancing your combat abilities is always good

2nd level
Shatter - Sonic damage can be fairly usefull at times

3rd Level
Fly - It just seems so fitting for your character

As you postulate and get all theoretical with your bad selves about the nature of the portal Grath awakens from his torture induced slumber and screams aloud, "No! No! I won't tell you anything..... don't hurt my bananas!! Celestial agent? I don't know what you're talking about... Ahhhhhh!!!!!!"

And then he promplty passes out again.....

Figures that I would finally go Banana's!

Officially, I think the portal leads back home to Salty Pete
and The Blue Hippocampus!  The beautifull glowy purple
purple light is what you get when you mix certain transulcent
purple fish around the blue hippocampus!!!  If that BS doesn't
get me some XP I don't know what will!

Send the Dwarf as Grath appears to be incapicated at the moment.
If it leads to the lagoon with ship and crew throw my
Monkey Butt on through!

Stop monkeying around - thats my job!!!

The Bleak and Frozen North

Not exactly on topic but I have a slighty hiccup coming up this week guys. My boss has a scheduling issue and needs me to close. I also of course open that day so I will have a few hours off in the middle to play D&D, I just need to leave at 9. I think it will still be all good but if my leaving early less convienient than my simply taking the week off let me know.

World of Warcraft stole my soul. WoTC bought it back.

Hello,

I was thinking that if the other Chris has to leave early let's do pizza, order in, and try to start a bit early.

I am likely to be the last one there, so as soon as I arrive if people are ready to go we can get things underway.

Just an idea.

Cheers

Pizza works for me.

I'm there a little after 5 so we can start as soon as everyone arrives.

Now, as to the portal ...

Beyond the purple shimmering veil Beregon is unsure of where things will go.

Due to the plane-shfting that appears to be underway any portal is likely to be scrambled.  Hopefully it sends us back to the deck of the Blue Hippocampus as a final respite.  We really need about 10-14 days to recover, build up resources, create magical items and otherwise reflect on where we are at and what we are going to do next.

In fact, Beregon imagines the deck of the Blue Hippocampus, sitting on a nice blue sea, swaying in the breeze as he steps through the portal.

No matter where we end up, Beregon hopes it is peaceful.  That said, he did just learn Infernal, just to be on the safe side.

Also, Beregon has learned how to teleport now.  So, as long as we are on the Prime Material Plane I can get us back to the Blue Hippocampus eventually (if that is what we want to do).

Lots to think about.

Cheers

While Marvin may gaze upon the shimmering vortex with the desperate hope that it leads back to the common room of his favourite tavern (ok maybe his second favourite there was a bit of a situation last time he was at his favourite) since being "recruited" to the crew of the Blue Hippocampus learned to expect the worst. Though he desperatly attempts to hold the image in his head of a roaring hearth, cool mug of ale and warm bowl of delicious beef stew Marvin continues to be distracted by his imaginings of a hellish place where the architects of this ziggaraut dwell. A land of twisting darkness and horrible screams continually shatters Marvin's image of home and though he hopes that the portal does not lead him and his new friends (Except maybe Jars who would enjoy it) into greater danger but instead towards their much deserved peaceful reward he expects that the portal will in fact lead them ever closer to the masters of the Ziggaraut.
