| As Cedrith takes a moment to reflect on Grath's sleep talking, he thinks also of the portal and what lies beyond....
He both fears and hopes that it leads to the evil tiger men that tortured Grath. They are a menace that must be stopped, they think I was sent here to stop them. It may well be that I was, its all begining to make sense. The dreams of Grath and the sea, our adventures together have all lead me here. On the other side of the portal we must go and destroy them before they can do any more harm. | | Champion of Champions (for all races! even Gnomes ) Reference Thread Winnipeg Gryphon Cavalry Forums

| Migwin Muses about a Portal
A we stand before a gateway to....well to somewhere. Our party mage and my good friend Beregon has indicated that the very foundations we stand in are phasing out of existance. Or rather to another plane of existance. I'm not sure I understand the complications. This portal that lies before us leads out from where we are, but where to? Does it lead to the realm of the infernal tigermen? If so what doom awaits us there? How many tigermen can I kill before I perish and join the spirits? Can my spirit find it's way to the spirit realms from suc a place?
Does it lead back to our own mortal realm? Will we simply walk out the other side and be back in the ziggurat? If that was the case I would be most grateful. The good captain is depending on us and I wouldn't want the burden of our dissappearance on his shoulders.
Curse you tigermen! Curse you and your ziggurat and your zombie hordes and whatever dark plans you unleased on our world! I pray to my ancestors spirits to guide me where my knowledge fails. Oh great Hawk spirit, whence does yon portal lead? If not to the realm of men then I pray it leads to the spirit realms. The realms of endless sky where the spirits of my ancestors fly unfettered.
We stand before the portal now, with little time left to decide. Oblivion or destiny.......great spirits take me and be merciful!

| Posted By The Beer Baron on 02/13/2008 10:28 PM Party Poll: Help Migwin pick some spells!
Well I'm now a level 6 sorceror. I get a 3rd level spell, plus 1more of every other level for spells known. Tough decisions, and I need some advice. Here is what I'm considering and why:
0 Level Already have: Detect Magic, Mage Hand, Disrupt Undead, Dancing Lights, Ghost Sound, and Prestidigitation.
Acid Splash - good cheap back up ranged, and you never know when you need some acid. Read Magic - I can read now, I just don't do it often, and can cast spells off of scrolls I don't know anyways. Ray of Frost - another cheap back up spell, use it to chill my beers...
1st Level Already have: Sheild, Magic Missle, Shocking Grasp, Enlarge Person (swapped out Burning Hands just now to get this one)
Gease - lots of fun, trip the bad guys or lube up their weapon handles Comprehend Languages - Always useful, and I can turn it on whenever we need it. Ray of Enfeeblement - bring down the opponents abilities, and can use it multiple times if needed. Truestrike - If I just need to make that one hit. Reduce Person - looking at Big Mig Toss feat, this could stack very, very, nicely.
2nd Level Already have: Bulls Strength, Scorching Ray
Invisibility - always handy, can use it on me or someone else. Shatter - Sonic damage, and can sunder opponents weapons. Web - sticky & handy Resist Energy - prevents damage for me or others Ghoul Touch - paralysis & sickness, could possible backfire and sicken allies, but paralysis is auto double damage.
3rd Level All new choices here:
Fireball - obviously one of the best for long range artillery Lightning bolt - same kinda thing, really Deep Slumber - Could neutralize opponents without killing them. Save that part for later. Fly - I've always wanted to fly, handy, helps get into possitions for combat - or stay out of it. Vampiric Touch - hurt enemy, heal self (Can I punch them for extra damage and extra healing?) I'm liking the touch spells as I have a high enough "to Hit" that I can actually use them. Shrink Item - Hmmm...make some boulders smaller in the morning, and throw/drop them on my enemies. Huge pole hurled like javelins. Anvils. Bonfires. Lots of possibilities here for Mr Throw Things!
Party Challenge:
Come up with the best list and reasons why, and next week I'll throw a pop and bar your way. I want a good balance of offense, defense, & utility. I also want to create a character with character. I'm also open to other suggestions if you have a good reason for it. What does our party need most? Is there duplication with you other casters? Can I pick up something which frees the other casters to study something else? Lots to consider.
0 lvl  Dancing Lights, Detect Magic, Mage Hand - Migwin has used the Lights a bit before and we are always in the dark. Mage Hand was usefull                                                                               before and should be used again when in a sticky situation. Detect Magic has been used up                                                                               before and we have had to wait to the next day to rememorize it. Plus I really think these spells                                                                               have become a part of Migwin's character.
1 lvl   Magic Missle, Shocking Grasp, Ray of Enfeeblment - Magic Missle always hits and I have chronicled Beregon killing the last dude with it. Migwin                                                                                           has accidently electricuted himself and others with this total keep for entertainment! This                                                                                           is Migwin to a T; plus he might shock Tharnog! Ray of Enfeeblement is annoying in WOW                                                                                           so lets turn the tide with the bad guys.
2 lvl   Bulls Strength and Scorching Ray - When you have been gone Scott we did use your Bulls Strenght and Rob said it made a difference. I think                                                                   it kept you/someone else going - it made the difference. Scorching Ray would have been great on the                                                                   chicken run! I can see Migwin having lots of fun with this one!  Unfortunately I can see Mike having a                                                                   lot of fun with this or Ghoul's Touch. The double damage is tempting ... but I know that would be against us!
3 lvl   Fireball and Shrink Item - These are in line with Migwin's character and would be usefull. Migwin loves fire and electricuting things. Also the                                                    shrink boulders and use later when larger ... also Migwin!  Plus with Mage Hand sneaking tiny Grath through                                                    traps is perfect.
Detect Magic, Fly, Invisibility and Comprehend Languages seems good for possiblities but it changes the character's personality type. Is Migwin becoming a pure intellectual and magic user? They are cool and make the character more powerfull - but these skills are already in use with Beregon and Cedrith. Although the amount we use this stuff up and wait the next day is excrutiating!
Sticking with Migwin's motiff of burning or electricuting things is awesome!  This is his character by which we love him. Plus he is by nature a good hearted trickster Barbarian! He is always trying to think up new whacky manoevers tht enhance his fighting style. So the above items fit him with some new tricks like shrink and Barbarian (Bull's Strength)
That said, what we really want to see (hopefully what Scott wants) is keeping some Migwin like past spells while adding some new Migwin spells. His character perserved, humouress and effective. Having fun, doing damage and trickster all in the same breath. Those are my suggestions; but, Scott has to make them Migwin!
Either way - I am really pulling for the BIg Lug to get a combination of HARD HITTING AND FUNNY!!! We love Migwin! Time for some MIGWIN AWESOMENESS!

I deem Cedrith's to be the best, keenly insignhtful. Thus he gets 800 XP.
Marvin takes 2nd place, 400 XP.
Migwin is 3rd, 200 XP.
Beregon 4th, 100 XP for him.
Grath is 5th 50 bonus XP.

| Migwin's spell bonus time.
Well it turns out I'm only getting a 0 and a 3rd this time around. 4 people have posted (MJ, Smythe, Rob, & Nico). While Nico put some effort into his response, I wasn't sure which spells he was recommending. Everyone else made some valid points, but I'm going with GriffinHeart's post. FREE pop & bar for you!
0 level - I think I'll go with Acid splash. The prison bars thing had occured to me. As well as ropes (which are found on ships) and other items that I may want to weaken instead of destroy. And then it is always handy for those nasty trolls. The good think about being a sorceror is I can use it when i need to and have to worry about memorizing it. Acid on, acid off!
3rd level - I really want the Vampiric touch spell, especially after discussing how Mig can use it in combat. I also really want Shrink item, utility and fun for those cobats where I just may want to drop a boulder or bonfire on an enemy. But there will be time yto get those, and I'm going with Fly (3 votes to 1 anyway). Migwin becomes closer to his hawk familiar (is there a prestige class for this?). Fly allows for those aerial charges and other occassions to get to a specific spot in a combat. Good to base their spellcasters to. Then on to the BIG MIG smash!
Next level I may just go Barbarian again to get another dose of HP as well as attack options. I like how this character is evolving with options I hadn't thought of when I created him. | | "GameKnight Games and Cool Stuff Winnipeg's source for RPGs and minis!" www.gameknight.ca

Migwin’s Diary for Flamerule 9th, in the Year of Wild Magic
What lies beyond the glowy purple portal? Cedrith and Tharnog step through. Then Beregon goes through. What’s happened? Oh great hawk spirit don’t fail me now! I step through…….a tiger man. I swing my greatsword at him but alas I have been caught off-guard. My other friends are already engaged in a fight for their lives! It is savage and brutal with lots of smiting, but we are victorious. We almost lots the two little people, but fortunately we survive.
The fight is over. We survey our surroundings and we are in a city of tigermen, as well as zombies and devils! The building we’re in is some kind of inter-dimensional bus-stop. There is a giant purple dome over the city. Marvin goes out and does some recon for us. There appears to be a large crowd filled coliseum, some kind of necromantic complex, and apartments.
Tharnog spies a crowd of zombies with one of the new crewmen from the Blue Hippocampus.
XP – 1866
We decide to cross over to the necromantic complex. What we need to do is find a spot to hole up in, and moving away from the coliseam crowds seem to make sense. Grath is with us, although he is still incoherent and Beregon is helping him out. An imp pops out sees us and shouts intruders! I shoot at him and hit (barely). So does Marvin and Beregon hits him with Magic Missiles and drops him.
We make it to Zombies-R-Us! Marvin somehow convinces Tharnog that zombie flesh is good eating. Tharnog eats some, and so does Jars (no surprise). Marvin goes about searching and unlocking a door. Zombie bits in the room come to life and start crawling toward us. Tharnog and Jars get upset stomachs and hurl their zombie lunch. Cedrith calls on the power of his god to blast them.
Up the stairs there is another tigerman, and he’s casting a spell – Symbol of fear (precast). Marvin bolts by in fear and I reach out to grab him. I miss, but move to block the door before he gets away from us. Grath grabs him. The caster somehow gets behind us and casts lightning. Tharnog and Lars rush down past me to attack. I miss with a scorching ray and Lars finishes him off. Beregon says to hurry up to the room and then takes his time for a thourough search. Beregon and Cedrith try to identify some magic items we find. Jars is making a tigerman hat from the creatures severed head. (I think I’m going to be sick).
We rest and heal up while our casters look through some spell books and a crystal ball. Beregon scrys the Blue Hippocampus and finds it wrecked on some rocks, Saltry Pete and find him fighting in the arena, Percy and sees a jail cell, and Mustafa and sees a zombie. We rest and try to come up with plans.
While we plan we hear the sounds of alarm. It would appear tha the ocr women we brought with us (and left at the bus stop) are being slaughtered. We make plans to barricade ourselves in. I prestidigitate the bloody floor clean in case the cops come by here with more body parts. They do, and Beregon fakes out a delivery cart by insulting the guy from behind a door in his best infernal.
Beregon studies the cell with Salty Pete and Percy, and teleports the with Jars and Marvin. I stay behind and try to study the lay of the land. A Golden Palace lies in the distance. The plan is for Bergon to pop back with Salty Pete and Percy, but they don’t get back........

| Sounds like I missed some fun at the end there. Glad to hear that everyone survived the evil tigerman wizard.
As for your prestige class Scott, check out the Sharn Skymage in Sharn:CIty of Towers, it gives you a really neat mastery of flight. Other than that I expect that you could adapt the totem warrior out of Complete Adventurer(I think) for a bird totem guy. If I come up with anything else that seems cool I will let you know, what exactly are you trying to do for a PrC? | | World of Warcraft stole my soul. WoTC bought it back.

| At this point I'm thinking perhaps there's 2 sessions left in this adventure arc, baring massive PC deaths on the sands of the gladitorial arena.
Possibly just 1 if we're on the ball next week.
2275 XP for the remainder of last night's session.

| Just to recapp from a page ... way back on this thread! Posted By jacksonm on 01/08/2008 12:17 PM Okay, here's where we'll pick things up tomorrow night. The crew manages to sneak out of Westgate after their latest round of shenanigans. Perhaps some lessons have been learned, perhaps not..... Deciding that a trip back to Teziir would be ill-advised Salty Pete decides to sail north to Urmlaspyr. Unfortunately for you it appears that the officials in Westgate were not as hapless as they appeared and a mere couple of hours out of port the Blue Hippocampus is followed by two warships. Only by Salty Pete's skill as a sailor do you manage to out run the warships of Westgate until you are concealed by the dark of a cloudy night. Still when the morning comes the chase will resume once more. Salty Pete decides the best course of action is to hole up somewhere until the patrols lose interest. You make way to a nearby island with a sheltered cove and drop anchor to wait out the patrols. When the morning sun arrives through the thick overgrowth of the island you see a blood red stone ziggurat proudly rising skyward. Consulting the charts Percy identifies this place as Isla de los Tigres de la Muerte! With a wry grin Salty pete turns to you and says, "Okay lads, looks like it's time for you to earn your keep." And that's where this week's adventure will begin. Tales from the previous Chronicler  Jan. 9th, 2008 Session 15
The Dreaded and Never-ending ... Ziggurat on the Isla de los Tigres de la Muerte! Part 1
Marvin Thistleburr The Third is a Halfling Rogue who is seriously wondering what turn of events cursed him here on the beachead of an evil bright blood red Ziggurat in the middle of nowhere! Jars thinks the little ROgue is "Halfling Tasty". Marvin the stowaway backs away from the insane Barbarian. The pyramid shape of the Ziggurat stands mockingly at our would be brave heroes from the harsh sounding jungles of Isla de los Tigres de la Muerte
Beregon tries to determine the nature of the blood red stone ziggurat from a distance through the foilage of ferns and large trees. Alas nothing can be deciphered until we venture forward. Jars takes point ... 15 ft ahead as Migwin and Beregon stick together. A short distance into the brush - not a stones through from the beach ... 8 Zombie's attack us! Cedrith attempts to turn and ... blows up 3. Migwin charges and hits hard. Grath misses his opponent while Jars strikes down a zombie. Beregon wields a wand of shocking grasp and kill another zombie. Cedrith's turning attempt blows the remainder to dust. Migwin scours the area for tracks ... Zombies are everywhere! Migwin moves along and finds the way getting rockier and ... more human footprints and Cat tracks! Marvin scouts ahead a bit and spots ... 13 more Zombie's ... all glowing in a purplish/blackish light!
They are upon us quickly (not slow thats for certain ) Jars is advanced upon and hit. Indeed Tharnog and Migwin are also hit ... the Party is surrounded! Jars flies into a rage and Axes a Zombie in the head ... who stands still after such a telling blow. Grath's rapier has little effect; but, Migwin steps in to save his Monkey-butt! Beregon casts Mage Armour on himself as Tharnog powerattacks. Jars kills a zombie as Marvin's arrow sinks into an unrelenting Zombie. Grath kills a Zombie as Migwin swings his Great Sword into another Zombie. Beregon's Lesser Orb of Electricity misses and both Migwin and Tharnog are struck down. Marvin delay's for a better opening as ... we learn that Tharnog the Dwarf was bitten by a hungry Zombie. Beregon's 2nd Orb of Electricity misses as Migwin is swiped at by another Zombie and his SOUL is ripped into! Cedrith steps up to heal the hurting Dwarf ... Grath steps up to kill the Zombie hurting Migwin. Tharnog powerattacks another Zombie now that he is back up! Beregon's wand of Magic Missle strikes a Zombie dead ... but now he takes SOUL/CON damage just as Migwin did. Jars now takes SOUL/CON damage and Migwin is so insensed he strikes out at yet another Zombie. Tharnog is up and swinging again ... kills and attempts the cleave but misses!!! Grath does not hit. Marvin's arrows are ineffectual ... Cedrith strikes down the last Zombie with his sword and heals Migwin with a scroll.
Beregon attempts Knowledge History and Religion ... Zombie's have Simbian Navy Uniforms! They seem to be drawing power from the Ziggurat! Evil Power!!!  Run Away! Run Away! BACK TO THE SHIP!!! Where is Mommy!!!  We want Mommy, we are hurt badly! We tell Salty Pete that it is rough out there in that evil Zombie infested Jungle ... we are back by 11:00 P.M. promptly to be tucked in!  We are resting up for a fresh go of it tomorrow andto heal up some of that nasty CON damage.
We do have a gold signet ring (magical); brass mongle (magical) which allows detect magic once per day. Well I am finally catching up on my past chronicling ... alot of work esp when I do it the way that I do! If I am lucky enough to return to you guys I won't be picking this job up again anytime soon!

| I will be forced to jump in here in defense of Strike Force Awesome since it would appear that the rest of my squad are absent form the interweb his week. Strike Force Awesome, hereafter refered to as SFA, has the best chance of success for many reasons.
1. The Magical Might of Beregon, though the other squad possessess the limited arcane skills of Migiwn none can match the power of Beregon nor can any hope to match his adaptablilty and quick thinking in combat. 2. The Raw Power of Jars, a warrior born the mighty barbarian shall stop at nothing to aid and protect his companions most particularly his quick thinking squire who stands at his side. Above even though rides Jars' stalwart determination to return to his Orcish bride whose life hangs on the slim might of The Bad News Beers. 3. The Nimble Wits of Marvin Thisttleburr the 3rd. No lock can hold him, no trap ensnare him and no man hope to match wits with the daring rogue. He fears no enemy as long as he has is true and brave companions at his back. 4. The Skill and Strength of Salty Pete. Though Marvin has never witnessed the might of Salty Pete tales of his great strength and skill have spread far and wide through the land. The foul demons have made a grave error in seperating a sailor from his treasure and Salty Pete will see that they rue that mistake.
SFA also has the advantage of not being saddled with as many non-combatants. Though Bosephus, Mrs Jars and Grath have in the past proved their worth in many ways they remain something of a liability when stealth and speed are required. Greater even than the hindrance that the unconcious monkey provides during missions of stealth is Tharnog, though he can stand in battle well enough (though not as well as Jars) he is incapable of stealth or subtlety.
On a completely metagaming note for the survival of SFA is the simple fact that our damage output is far greater than that of The Bad News Beers, between Beregon's spells, Marvin's sneak attacks and Jars' 26(?) strength there are few things we will not be able to kill with reasonable speed and should we manage our resources effectively I do not think that we should have too much trouble.
SFA also has access to the greatest contingency plan, we need only find a safe place for Beregon to replenish his spells and teleporting to a safer location becomes once again an option.

| Pretty good reasons - Can't believe I am voting for the other side! Come On Cedrith it is all up to you!
I was going to object to Grath being a liability on the stealth - but - now that I know I am unconscious I would have to agree with that assessment. I suck for my team - literally! the Concubine that Is!
Can I defect to the other team - between Marvin and Beregon's coming uber list Grath feels XP withdraws!!!! At least I could help the Bad News Beers by ridding them of the emcuberance! | | Stop monkeying around - thats my job!!!

| Well, My genius squire covered most of the points to be made but I'll try to add a bit.
Jars averages 30 a hit with just a little bit of power attacking involved. With a generous flank from a certain tumbling rogue those hits are quite reliable. In this game, Jars's rival on the other team is the dwarf. Well Jars hits harder, more often, now has the same hp while was raging, a higher ac and a better grasp of tactics and strategy, as well as....past experience in gladiatorial fighting (a few ranks of gladiator)
The other team does not (currently) possess an able bodied rogue of Marvin's stunning brilliance, locks...flanks...a fair maidens undergarments...there's little he can't take us through or around, and when there is...
The Wizard, B. As much as I dont like to admit it, he's the major ace. He turns our damage heavy group into a tactical strike force of Navy S.E.A.L s. We can hit damn near where ever we want and teleport to somewhere else whenever we'd like. He has the flexibility and knowledge to get us out of damn near any situation so long as he has time.
Salty pete...dude, he's a badass, let's just leave it at that.
Percy is, well percy, hey we can't all be winners. But at least he can fight and he brings valuable pirate-esque knowledge to the table | | "Some people are like slinkies. Not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs."

| So, why does Beregon believe he will survive, along with the rest of Strike Force Awesome?
Well, my two colleagues have chimed in with some very valid reasons. At the moment our group has three-quarters of a standard party, the only thing we are lacking is healing ability (aside from a few minor potions). We shall overcome that obstacle by avoiding being hit (or at least so is the plan). Of course, we will also have to overcome the tense relationship between Beregon and jars. After all, Beregon believes Jars is often a psychotic sociopath who dabbles in slavery (his orc concubine). That said, his immense strength is better kept onside than as an enemy. So how will be work together?
1) Marvin will provide excellent scouting and flanking expertise. He can move to silence any guards before they raise an alarm and will be useful in opening any doors we find locked along the way. In a fight he will dish out damage against our enemies with his awesome flanking damage. Besides all of that, Marvin can also be very charming if need be and might be able to use his silver tongue to get us through tight spots as well.
2) Jars will do what Jars does best, totally destroy things. If Beregon can get Marvin to convince Jars to be a bit sneaky rather than rash we might be able to avoid the unwinnable fights and only take out the guards that really can't be bypassed. That said, in a fight the wizard stays behind the barbarian as he creates a shield wall for us.
3) Salty Pete will provide some wisdom and guidance, hopefully, and also some combat ability if we can find some gear for him. His magical weapon appears to be missing at the moment. Having been about the arena a bit he can hopefully provide us with some directions on where to go and where not to go. Also, he should be able to tell us of what brought the crew of the Blue Hippocampus to this cursed city.
4) Percy will have some cartographical skill to help us, I hope. At the very least he seems to be building up his heal skill by tending to Salty Pete so far. That will stand us in good stead if we do get hurt. With his book learning Percy may also be able to help us out with inscriptions and the like if Beregon is unable to decipher them.
5) Beregon will have to act as mobile artillery as usual, but with some power kept in reserve at all times as we may not have a safe place to hole up. At least Beregon has most of the party's wands with him to extend the length of casting time available. It may come down to hand to hand combat, however, so Beregon has Mage Armour in use and his magical quarterstaff ready to go.
This combination of both physical and arcane prowess, plus intelligence and experience, should see us safely through the trials ahead. We are not really weighted down by non-combatants (Percy may be the exception, but he has been in a fight or two and leads a charmed life) and for the moment we have the element of surprise. Hopefully we can reach an area outside of the teleportation supression field and scramble into a safe hole where Beregon can memorize another couple of teleport spells sooner rather than later.
That said, Beregon certainly hopes to meet up again with the rest of the party. Tharnog may be the most unstealthy dwarf ever born who can't seem to stay out of trouble, and Beregon has no love for Jars' orcish concubine, but Bucephous seems like a nice guy, and Beregon would really miss Cedrith, Grath and Migwin if he were never to see them again. Hopefully Cedrith will have the good sense to stay put and use the crystal ball to do some scrying to determine the best course of action in the long run.
Cheers

| Posted By Griffonheart on 02/23/2008 1:44 PM I vote for the tacos. We did chinese just the other week and as all men know the taco is natures second most perfect food. We did also postpone that Georges run last week and burgers are also delicious.
Tacos sounds pretty tempting to me too, and georges is always good eating. | | Champion of Champions (for all races! even Gnomes ) Reference Thread Winnipeg Gryphon Cavalry Forums

| Group 1 hear after refered to as the Bad New Beers consisting of Migwin, Tharnog, Cedrith, Grath, Bosephus, and the orcish concubine of Jars.
Why will we be able to survive.
1) We have healing power if we get hurt
2) We have the crystal ball to hopefully allow me to see whats happening around us so we can avoid danger.
3) We have big brusiers inTharnog and backup hitter Migwin
4) When Grath wakes up he might be able to do some scouting and lockpicking should it become necessary
5) Bosephus can tend/tame any pigs/hell boars we come across
6) Jar's orcish concubine can always be used as fodder while we escape
7) Cedrith is carrying a few buffing wands to make us more effective in combat if we can't avoid it, and Migwin has some spells too
8) Corellon obviously wants Cedrith to be here to defeat the tiger men so we can't lose.
9) We have more reasons than Omand posted so we win right? right? | | Champion of Champions (for all races! even Gnomes ) Reference Thread Winnipeg Gryphon Cavalry Forums
