There we go. Now it works.
I did this 3 times and got the same outcome. I'm guessing they didn't put every charcter in this.

Also, how does Rope Trick (the spell) work? Can you see out of the extra-dimensional space you climb into?

ShadowlordXT, Read the spell description in the PHB. It answers all of your questions. Cheers

I read my PHB. The answser isn't there. Well it is, but only being able to see under it doesn't sound right.

Just in case Tyler's 3.0 PHB is the problem:

"Those in the extradimensional space can see out of it as if a 3-foot-by- 5-foot window were centered on the rope. The window is present on the Material Plane, but it’s invisible, and even creatures that can see the window can’t see through it."

Smack dab in the middle

Dear Nymagus,

In the short while since we met, I've come to think of you as close to my heart. I trust that all is well with you and your young charge. We've been quite busy since you abruptly left. I'm sure the others will fill you in on the particulars so there's no need to bog you down with repetitive detail. The wolf that appeared to me has not reappeared since the portal. I keep hoping that whatever entity that was will come back, perhaps with more assistance. We've recruited (or stumbled upon, as the case may be) another magic user in your absence. While he is a Hin, like me, the similarities end there. He seems confident and self assured, but I don't think he possesses the abilities that you had. I readily admit that the land of magic and peril would likely do us all in if we didn't have at least his rudimentary skills, but yet, I felt much safer with you dealing with that material. Of course, I've only just met this Nallan whereas I spent more time with you. Perhaps, in time, he'll grow in to the position you vacated.

Now the good news! While I was always pleased with the bow that I had, I've discovered a much better one! This one has a good tight pull to it (Mighty +1) and is magically enhanced to direct my arrows more securely to their targets (+2). To top it off, upon striking it's target, the arros release some sort of cold energy (Frost)! I've yet to let fly with this wonderful weapon, but I am looking forward to releasing my silver arsenal on the lycanthropes that stand between here and Shadowdale.

Ah, Shadowdale. I actually wonder if we'll make it back. These drow tunnels, orcs and now a Red Wizard of Thay! I've heard horror stories about what they do to their enemies. If we work together as a team, I'm sure we can overcome.

Well, while we cannot see the sky, I fell that dawn is approaching. I am eternally greatful to Torchy for providing the light sources that we have. Gawain will be rising soon for his morning prayers. We're down in a cavern right now, but I will go and attempt to gather what I can to offset our rations for breakfast.

May the day find you well.
Casey

All hail the mighty Green Rhino!

Shadowdale Light Fellowship Chronicles - part XII Aug. 1, 2007

First Person Narrative by Lannister Lazenby

In the room with the evil portal……after about three days, Gawain de-evilizes the portal, and we all jump through. The room we pop into has a weird shape, with carved dark stone walls and a door with a spider motif. I open it, and although I’m sure there is no traps, lightning zaps Veil, (but not Cutter) when he goes through. We figure out it only zaps non-elves. If we hold Cutter’s hand he can pull us through. Zap, it still hurts though.

The hallway leads us to a room with some pillars, and a statue of Llolth. While I’m searching the pillars (why, I don’t know, they seem to want me to search everything), the statue jumps to life. Gawain moves forward and casts daylight on his shield. A barrier of blades appears and separates us from the group. Cutter charges through and engages it. I dash behind the nearest pillar and pull out my swords. Cutter still fights on, while I sneak to get in to position. Casey nails it with the new bow, and kills it. Cutter, meanwhile, has gone berserk again and attacks Gawain, and hits. (What is wrong with this guy? And he wants that +3 Greatsword?) I make a sap with my mug in a bag. He critically takes Gawain down – the bast*rd!!! And the fool rushes into the blade barrier?!!? I rush over and try to save Gawains life by pouring my Cure Mod potion down his throat. He survives (praise Lathander!). Cutter is subdued by Veils ability to fascinate. He gets healed up and we continue, although I’m starting to think we need a way to “Shut him off”. I go about searching the room, and find a glowing purple gem. Apparently it tried to suck out Gawains soul. I stuff it in an empty potion bottle, and feel just fine. Anyway, on to searching a door, I pick the lock and with great luck narrowly miss being stuck by a poison dart.

The next room has a magic circle on the floor and silver script on the wall. I can’t decipher it, but Gawain casts some kind of spell and it reveals it to be a code that sends stuff to other planes, or brings them here. Boring. I go search and unlock the other door. It leads to a room that had bookshelves, which are empty. Further searching reveals a hidden compartment with a big black leather bound book. Oops, my mistake, no book there. Boring. I leave. Why do these magic portals only lead to chambers that can only be left by a teleporter of some sort. Did I mention that I hate being underground? We camp here for the night. Like where else are we going to go? While on watch, Cutter is sharpening his swords and creeping me out.

The next day I watch as Nallan is studying his spell-books. He’s nice enough to answer my questions about magic. It seems interesting; perhaps I may try to study it sometime. As the magic people say the circle is a way out, I hop in and shout “cross-roads”! It doesn’t work. I try to leave, but it won’t let me out, nor does my dagger or my left shoe. Help! Now no-one else can get in. I reiterate that going underground was a bad idea. The party starts to argue about how to work this thing, meanwhile it id getting stuffy. They activate it, everything fades to black, and I say something in some weird language. (Schneedleboff? What the???). Then there is only nothingness….

Notes aside for the casual reader: Lannister at this point is now possibly possessed. The party jumps through the portal to find they are naked and chained to a wall. Cutter goes berserk and pulls his chains out of the wall. Casey bluffs unconsciousness (smart move shorty!) Cutter frees everyone else. They find a hallway with an intersection. Some drow pass by, speaking in undercommon. They can’t be understood, but they say the word Lannister twice. (Thanx Mikey!) They attack the drow and a fight ensues. Torchy makes a torch from his underwear. The group emerges victorious! Now, only to find out what has become of poor Lannister……

XP-TBD

Plane of Shadow

08/02/2007 8:25 AM
Nallan Greenthorn's Personal Journal 3

We go through the portal Gawain (with his clerical abilities)changed from a portal to the plane of negative energy to some other place. Well, there's no way out so in we go.
We end up in a small dark room with a door that let's only elves go through without being electrocuted. I sit back hoping the door possibly has charges per day in it or something to that extent. It doesn't and I get shocked bad along with Geick. Thankfully we are ok. I give Geick my potion of cure light wounds since he seemed more hurt than me, and I didn't want to bother the cleric for spells we will probably need in soon anyways.
We walk near a room with black pillars and a drow statue. The rogue and cleric go in, a blade barrier pops up. The statue comes to life and attacks. The barbarian rushes through the barrier to go attack the monster. I buff the ranger this time. He thinks I'm useless, what about now? He'll see how important I am to this group. If I don't he may have me killed. We kill the monster, which dissappears instead of just falling to the ground. The barbarian again goes crazy and this time leaves the cleric in a bloody mess. Has this been happening a lot? Shouldn't they have found an off switch fpr this guy by now? We search the rooms and find a magic circle, an evil gem, and a black book (possibly magic spells!). Wait, what? Lannister you said there was a black book in there. He is playing games again.
We sleep and the next day I study the ruins and the magic circle. Before allowing me to talk it over with the rest of the party, Lannister runs into the circle becoming trapped. He seems hysterical as he starts throwing random things at the barrier. He then says something in an odd language. Is he possessed? Then the cleric comes up to me and tells me he's possessed. How convenient, right after I send him somewhere that he re-routs to an evil place. We follow him and end up in a small, dark room naked. Damnit, now I can't cast a lot of my spells. And look, no Lannister. The barbarian goes crazy, again. He breaks down the door, but no one comes to check on us thankfully. He breaks us all loose. I check up on Geick, but he's frightened. I let him know I'm on my way. We hear footsteps and they are talking undercommon. They must be drow since we are still in the Underdark. We start fighting them. I'm at the back, but with no effective spells it doesn't matter. The torch bearer somehow gets a fire lit. I'll have to check him later, but I have a feeling our little friend could be from the plane of fire. We have beaten the drow, now we have some clothing, armor, and weapons. Maybe even a spellbook.

Everything is black around me, and quiet. I try to speak except there is no sound. I raise my hands to my face, except now I realize I can't feel my hands. I can't feel any part of me. I'm not even breathing. Weird. Am I dead? I thought there was supposed to be a light or something. 72 virgins, well they ain't here either. What now? I guess I'll wait. What do I wait for? I dunno. Something...anything....everything......everthing around me is still black......

How about some XP?

What demeaning way can we earn bonus XP this week?

Should I roll up another rogue?

Sure why not. XP total from this week is 1325.

As for the demeaning XP bonus how about a little essay on why Lannister is better off possessed by the spirit of an evil drow wizard?

As for whether you need to roll up another rogue that depends on how the rest of the party want to handle you......

So for those of you who are lurkers or otherwise out of the loop the plan is to put the wraps on this campaign at the end of this month and rework to something new. The plan is to get a new campaign together with myself as DM again and the request has gone out for me to do a new nautical campaign. One of Nico's favorites.

As always we'll be starting at 1st level, the tastiest level.

It'll be a Forgotten Realms campaign, centered in The Sea of Fallen Stars. Game slots going first to current players.

More details to follow in the next week or so.

First the final fate of Lannister Lazenby!

I think I've decided to limit the new group to 5 players plus myself. I'll put you on the list of those interested.

Pretty much slot priority will go to those in the current campign first should they be interested in continuing with a new campaign.

Lots of good options there. Some of them feature firearms which I don't use in my campaign worlds but they're still nice usable minis.

Of course your character needen't have a nautical background at the start of the campaign, that would be your decision therefore you can use just about any mini you choose that fits for your character. Or you can go with a plastic one....

I'm up for a nautical campaign. I'm 90% sure I can play, I just need a week in school to tell if I can or not. I already have a character ready. And if we all decide to be LA +1 I can be an Aasimar without being left out of levelling up.

Dinner this week - Subs or Chinese?

Also, I am in for the next campaign.  What to play is the question.  I suppose we will need to start a new thread for that.

So, now to think about what to do this week.

I am pretty sure we can survive, but the question is, can we get back all of our gear?

In terms of direction, the direction the drow came from first, then the direction they were going (provided we don't find better directions on the way).  There has to be some form of guard post near the cell, so that would be an OK place to get some more gear (if not our own).

Then to find Lannister and solve the posession issue.  Then to determine a path out of the place.  Anyone have direct line to miracles, oh yeahm that's me.

Cheers

Pretty much those who are playing not have dibs on the slots in order of playing with me until the 5 are filled. We should have a better idea of who will be what and who will be playing by the end of the week.

The concepts are coming together, the story arc is taking shape.

This time I've decided to keep the stats simple. Everyone will start with these six arranged as they choose, modified by race as apropriate: 18, 16, 15, 13, 12, 11. It'll pretty much allow people to choose their classes this time, of course working as a group is good...

Pretty much the pecking order for entry in the campaign is Bach, Nico, Chris, Rob, Scott, Jory, Garret, Tyler, then newbs. Good character concepts can change that, as will commitment to working with the party and not running around doing silly stuff.

As for dinner subs sound good. Perhaps we can plan to do Chinese again the final session.

Hey,

I thought we had already decided that I was not going to be the cleric again!

Actually, not a problem if it comes to it, but I would be interested in a change.  A wizard is sounding tempting, but I could go with other concepts as well.

Pretty much the field is wide open regarding possible character classes. I tend not to like monks in my campaigns though.

With 5 PCs I tend to like a couple fighter types, an arcane caster, a divine caster, and a roguish type but that's just me.

Characters with a seafaring background or inclination might have an advantage at the start but it's not a necessity. Land lubbers will be accepted too.

Yes, a man after my own thoughts there.  I have always found a five person party works best with a couple of fighter types (although a bard can stand in for support) and the three other primary classes.

Cheers

I have a Human Marshall ready. I would like to make it an Aasimar if it doesn't screw things up too much.

An Aasimar would be okay, I'm not sure how well a Marshal will work in the context of this campaign though.

As for a son of Thagnor I suppose that could be a possibility. Depends on where you go with it. I had forgotten you played in my Shadowrun campaign so that moves you up on the seniority ladder behind Nico so you're in.

Smack dab in the middle

As for the Aasimar Marshal, if the nautical campaign would feature a large enough ship, he could be the Marine Commander. I imagine, however, that Mike will start off with a smaller boat. Marshal might make a good multi-class later on if the situation demands it, but the natural tendency to want to lead might interfere with the Captain's wishes on a small ship.

Dwarves on boats are fun! Paranoia about falling overboard and constant sea-sickness, who could ask for more?

All hail the mighty Green Rhino!

I have to run home after work on Wednesday to check on my dog. Sooo, if we wanted to maximize gaming time, I can pick up food on my way to GameKnight and get the money from you when I arrive. Let me know if you want to go that route.

I haven't picked the ship as of yet but it will likely be a caravel.

Perhaps even smaller. Certianly large enough to support the PCs and some crew as well as their captain.

Rest assured Salty Pete will be the captain and ye'll do as he says or he'll keelhaul yer sorry hide.

Could be a plan. Rob might not be able to pipe in until his new internet is up.

Do we want to do Subway?
