Migwin has also learned that Beregon always waits to post last so he gets the biggest bonus. He looks forward to posting just under the wire in the future, with the biggest of lists to get the golden XP egg!

Migwin looks forward to crushing those puny 4.0 monsters..........

Those puny 4.0 monsters would treat Migwin the way Jars treats an orc concubine.

No worries about the money. Hopefully Scott enjoyed the food.

If you're not coming down because it's a 4e demo you really should because of anyone at the table the system realy plays to your gaming style when it comes to the combat mechanics. Trust me, you'll enjoy it.

Either way I'm headed down to Game Knight in a bit.

Hopefully the lack of a 6th character won't mean the doom of the rest of you in the demo, and the fates of your real characters that are mysteriously linked somehow.....

See the rest of you there.

And one more bonus out of last night and a chance to flex your creative writing muscles.
.
Your challenge is to write a creative paragraph on how your character acquired the random item you rolled for last night. The hook is you have to have done so without spending any money at all.

The better the story the better the XP bonus.

It's a Bright Red Ribbon of Disguise. It can change shape but only if you concentrate on it. If you if forget about it it reverts back to it's big poofy bright red shiny red ribbon status.

Tales from the previous Chronicler Jan. 9th, 2008 Session 15

The Dreaded and Never-ending ... Ziggurat on the Isla de los Tigres de la Muerte Part 2

Resting on the Blue Hippocampus to repair our soul damage (CON damage) we spot errie blue lights stalking through the thick jungle underbrush beyond the beach. Beregon's 1st watch is uneventfull; but, he can't help wondering what lies beyond the point which we turned back from. Beregon invokes Arcane Eye which flies into the night towards the cursed blood red Ziggurat! The Arcance Eye sees as it flies ... the dead zombies that ambushed us near the beachhead ... and blue glowing tigers a bit further!  The Isla seems to be filled with those wretched Zombies.  At the foot or base of the Ziggurat ...BONES...up the stairs ... a large glyph in some sort of script!  Beregon tries to decipher the script ... WARNING ... TIGER GOD Beregon press the Arcane eye further still ... atop the monstrous Ziggurat ... we spot ... 4 lone figures ... ominous and evil ... brass armour ... ceremonial ...wait... not human ... devilish ...tainted... humanoid tigers ....RAKSHASA CREATURES!!! non-opposable thumbs!!!  The Arcance eye expires!
Weary, Beregon is relieved of his watch nearly 20 mins. later ... the Ziggurat lies with the eyesrange of more than 2000 ft.

In the morning Cedrith heals everyone of their CON damage! Whew .  Tharnog borrows Migwin's Great Axe as the Dwarf lost all his equipment in Westgate. (family heirloom!).  Onto the beach back into the jungle refreshed we go!  Tharnog leads the way as Migwin and Jars flank him somewhat behind.  Beregon follows further behind and is flanked by the 2 rogues. Cedrith follows from the rear, ready from behind.  We past our past Zombie ambush and Beregon cautions us to remember what he saw last night on watch.  We expect to face Zombie tigers ...onward .... 8 spectral tigers attack and surprise us!!!

Our weapons pass right through them!  Beregon gets a ghostly paw through his chest ...COLD! Cedrith also gets a COLD SWIPE through the chest. Are these undead tigers??? Graths magical dagger misses and Marvin is ... hey where did Marvin go???  The party is full out attacked in the confusion.  Beregon casts Mage Armour as Migwin misses his attack ... damn!!! Cedrith is missing his attack as ... is that Marvin hiding in the bushes ... drinking a potion??? Tharnog PowerAttacks and kills the 1st ghost! (Say what you will but the Dwarf is effective!) Grath fumbles his magical dagger off into the trees as Beregon's Wand of Magic Missle strikes true! Jars PowerAttacks and hits another ghost!  Cedrith attempts a turn ... 3 spectral tigers flee ... yeah! Marvin tumbles and hits a kittly ... but sadly his weapon goes swish right through!  Migwin also gets swish damage (nada) but Tharnog has better luck hitting his ghostly foe.  Grath nearly strikes true with his longsword ... yet he too gets a swish!!!  Jars hits and disspates a ghostly kitty and goes for the cleave ... a swish ... and Jars is slowed.  Cedrith stands firm and invokes ... Light of Lunia. The good light bathes and hits 2 kitties... what happens ...  Marvin tumbles for the flank with Jars ... hits.
Grath swings with his longsword ... fumbles his sword into the back of Migwins head ... and Migwin promptly misses his foe ... SORRY!   Beregon unleashes more hits with his Magic Missle as Cedrith barely misses with his Lights of Lunia!  Marvin kills a ghostly tiger as Tharnog dispatches with the last ghostly apparation!   (Hey, the Dwarf got the 1st and last kills!)

Beregon believes that Jars is only slowed for another min at most!  We lick our wounds and contemplate returning to the ship.  Marvin jodes us into pressing us on ... what are pansies???  Something you wear?  Our intrepid party pushes on in previous marching order.  The Dwarf leads with the Barbarians flanking  somewhat behind.  The Rogues flank our leader as Cedrith is ever viligant from behind ... didn't this  fail before ... we were attacked ... surprised!!!

We push on into the underbrush ... a evil feeling permeates the undergrowth as we approach the Blood Red Ziggurat.  Monkey got a bad feeling about this!!!!

Stop monkeying around - thats my job!!!

Hello,

Seems I am behind again with everything.

So, how did Beregon get his fancy scroll?

Well, Beregon got his fancy scroll by going into Urmlaspyr and trying to haggle with the local wizards for more spells.  Seems that he ran into a wizard who knew his father in passing (before the old man died) by the name of Belzyr.  Belzyr had visited Beregon's family long ago (about 15 years to be exact) and was happy to run into a familiar face.  He was somewhat astonished to discover that Beregon had taken up the path of wizardry, but was quite interested in how his adventures had gone.

Based upon the fantastic tales that Beregon told, Belzyr thought it best to perhaps gift the young wizard a scroll that would assist him if he ever ran into the Rakshasas again on Faerun.

Cheers

How did Cedrith find the Wind Fan?

One day after creating all of the scrolls and wands and such with Beregon Cedrith wandered off into the forest to spend some time reconnecting with his elvish side.
Durring his wandering he came upon a small pond with a number of swans swimming around.  As he bent down to fill his waterskin a swan brushed against him and dropped what looked like a bundle of feathers, but on closer inspection was a a wind fan.

Also, now that I have looked up what it does the wind fan isn't all that much use to us, it only lasts for 1 round so its not going to do much to move a ship around. You can use it for more than a round but it has a cumulative 20% chance of breaking after each additional round.

We will resume the action on the 2nd of Eleint, 1372 DR.

By my calculations that gives the PCs 42 days of sweet in city down time. Make sure to stroke off at least 5 silver a day for expenses.

The Blue Hippocampus is once again shipshape and Bristol fashion. Salty Pete and percy have hired an able crew of sailors to man her while the rest of you bide your time away with painted doxies, cheap trollops, saucy tarts, wanton wenches, brazen strumpets, slovenly trulls and the like.....

Wounds have healed, night tiger terrors have subcided, the ghost of Bosephus continues to haunt Tharnog..... perhaps it is time to once again take to the sea.

Salty Pete has just returned from a trip to Daerlun with some vital information. He demands everyone drop what they are doing and prepare to set sail immediatly. Destination... Tsurlagol!

Well, Migwin thought, it was good to be back to civilization, at least for a while. It smells kinda bad, and can be just as dangerous as the wild, but at least the food is better, and there is beer. I think tonight I'll take Jars, Grath, and a few of the men and find a good pub and some wenches. Jars is bound to find something a step up from Ugella.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

...oooooo....my head. What the hell was that stuff. They said it was ale, but it never hurt like this. Migwin hears creaking from the floorboards to his right, and turns to see a scraggly thin black skinned elf woman with his belt pouches. She looks at him and smiles. "Just collecting my dues deary..." Migwin tries to shake the fog from his mind. There was a woman last night, but she was a voluptous redhead named Scarlett. He looked around the room, and saw no-one else. Just discarded clothes and gear, and a strange red ribbon around the bed-post.

"oh don't worry honey, I'll help you sleep it off, just like last night", the woman says just before she reaches out and takes the ribbon. As she ties it up in her hair, her hair starts to change to a crimson colour, her lean frame stretches out in all to well rounded shapes, and her clothing is suddenly much more revealing. Yes Migwin thinks, I remember her as the serving wench from last night. She goes through the motions of weaving a spell, but Migwin suddenly rolls off the bed and tackles her, pinning her to the floor. The spell breaks.

"Not today, I think" says Migwin as she struggles under his grasp. "if this is what it takes for you gain a mans affections, I think you might want to change places of employment." He reaches over and grabs the ribbon, pulling it off to see the gaunt frame of the dark elf. She screaches something in a strange language, but Migwin senses he knows the intent. She starts casting another spell and he darts toward her once more. Suddenly there are 5 of her there, all clawing at the red ribbon. Migwin punches one of the images only to have it dissappear.

"You want this? Then come and get it" Migwin says as he moves toward the door. Daggers are flying through the air at him now, and he slams through the door, craking and splitting the frame. A dagger hits him in the arm, and a burning stinging sensation runs through his body. He runs down the hallway and then down the stairs into the common room. Dressed only in a loincloth, the patrons stop to stare. "Theres some crazy drow b**ch attacking me!" He says as he pulls the dagger from his arm. It is coated in a black tarry goo, mingled with his blood. He drops it to the floor.

The sunlight is streaming in through the front doors, but Jars and Grath are nowhere to be seen. Only a half orc named Tork with whom Migwin was drinking with last night. The dark elves run into the room, wawing a wand. Tork says "Is she a whore?" Dumb half orc. Migwin rushes forward and punches one of the drow, only to have her dissappear. A lightning bolt flies over his head, but it seems to burst from 3 different directions. Again she screeches something, and then says to Migwin "Give me the ribbon, and I'll let you live!"

The half orc stands up and says "You're not very nice lady", slaps her to have another image dissappear. Migwin grabs a chair and swings it around to hit her. This time he hears a pulpy smacking sound as the drow is bloodied and sent flying.

Migwin looms over her prone form, clenches his teeth and utters "I think you better give me the wand, and I'll let you live!"

THOK!!! A bolt embeds itself in the chair Migwin is holding. He sees the bartender and three othe patrons with crossbows trained on him. "Okay outlander, you've had your fun. Now do as the lady says!"

Migwin flings the chair into the group of three. Two are hit and their bolts fly willd. The dark elf rises and starts to cast another spell. Migwin also casts a spell, and zaps the drow with his shocking grasp. AAAEEEEIIIIIEEEEE she scrams. A bolt hits Migwin in the leg. He lifts her up and flings her tward the bar. She crashes into the bartender and they land in a pile of bottles and ceramic mugs. Three more men rise from the their tables, and draw a motley assortment of weapons. Time to go Migwin thinks. He darts back up the stairs and into last nights room. He grabs his sword, his pack and his shirt before stepping up to the window. He jumps, feather falling to the alley below.

Once there he dons the ribbon, thinking this thing had better work. In his mind he thinks of the image of the plump bakers' wife he bought bread from the day before. He walks toward the busy street while looking at his hands. By Tempus they're the same. He glances around only to see half a dozen men burst from the inn. The poison has made him weak, and he fears a fight would not go well, and he stands there, thinking it would be best to comply and walk away. The men rush at him, and then past him. Hmmmm.....

-------------------------------------

Back on the ship Cedrith is tending his wounds. "First Jars and his broken nose, then Grath's bruises, and now you with, what is this, poison?" By Corellon what have you boys been up to? Migwin remains quiet. A few days working on the mast supports beneath deck would be a nice break from this city Migwin thinks. He looks over at the red ribbon on his bunk. A fine little momento of the night that wasn't, he thinks to himself. Maybe I'll find some use for you yet.

Migwin’s Diary for Eleint 2nd in the Year of wild Magic, 1372

Our merry band has had 42 days of sweet in city down time. The Blue Hippocampus is once again shipshape and Bristol fashion. Salty Pete and Percy have hired an able crew of sailors to man her while the rest of us have bided our time away with painted doxies, cheap trollops, saucy tarts, wanton wenches, brazen strumpets, slovenly trulls and the like.....

Wounds have healed, night tiger terrors have subsided, the ghost of Bosephus continues to haunt Tharnog..... perhaps it is time to once again take to the sea. Salty Pete has just returned from a trip to Daerlun with some vital information. He demands everyone drop what they are doing and prepare to set sail immediately. Destination... Tsurlagol!

Salty Pete has found out that there is a group of pirates that operate out of the Tsurlagol that have some information about the Ebon Cutlass. We need to search out a ship called the Drowning Rat. Beregon scrys on the ship, and gets the vision of a Black ship with grey black sails in front of a rocky craggy island. We sail east for 4 days, and one of the new lookouts spies a ship approaching from the north. It is waving a peace flag. We hook up and a man comes over with a letter for a wizard called Beregon. He was paid to deliver the letter by a dark cloaked man in Mulmaster (allies of the Thayans). The letter is a crude note from Beregons brother, who is being held in Narcourt manor in Mulmaster. He bribed a guard to send this note out. He says they plan to do arcane experiments on him.

I go talk to Salty Pete to inquire about our group heading out there. He says it is quite far away, over 1000 miles. Meanwhile Beregon consults Percy about the island he has been scrying on. He thinks it is 12-14 days away.

Jars spots some dolphins, and decides to go fishing, dives in, grapples one, pulls it up on deck, rips a chunk out of its still squirming form and eats it. Tharnog eats some too. The sailors cringe in fear as this is an ill omen. I spot some dark storm clouds approaching from the east. The ship comes to a dead stop. Jars has obviously offended some sea god. Cedrith heals the dolphin and pushes it back into the water. The ship is now getting battered by rain and water. Salty Pete comes up and demands to know what is going on. Once he finds out he says to Beregon that he will have to learn to control his animals. Cedrith determines that it is Umberlee we have offended, and will be placated with a suitable sacrifice (human, sentient, or very valuable treasure). Jars dives into the water, and screams that he will service the goddess. A whirlpool forms and swallows him. Soon the waters return to normal.

We find Jars a little later, but he is changed. Black green scales, gills, and other shark like features cover him. Beregon determines that it is a polymorph/curse magic, and he is bound to service Umberlee. We determine that he has become a servant of evil. He’ll stay in this form until he has atoned for his sins, by destroying a ship most likely.

We continue heading east. I make a wooden “shark cage” for SharkJars, which we are planning to tow behind the boat. This keeps SharkJars wet, away from the sailors, and in tune with his new water element. He still has an evil brooding look about him (he has red glowing eyes). We take turns on watch keeping an eye on him. Later on Cedrith’s watch, he hears a thrashing and splintering. My cage is all bust up and Jars is gone. Morning comes and there is still no sign of him. My cage is unfixable. Beregon scrys him, and finds him swimming around the ocean.

Another night on watch we hear something land on deck. We spot SharkJars on deck with a corpse of a sea-elf, and he appears to be happy. Marvin convinces him to take the corpse away before anyone sees it (but he loots it first). He gets a coral necklace with a pattern on it. Beregon determines it to be an elven princess. Cedrith is offended and feels Umberlee has done tine on purpose (on porpoise?).

Beregon tries to cast a “Break Enchantment” spell on SharkJars. We prepare for the worst, and I get some of my own spells ready. SharkJars tries to get into the rigging, Tharnog tries to stop him and get smacked away. I fly up to the crows nest. Beregon tries “Hold Monster”, but SharkJars resists. Cedriths hits SharkJars something good. SJ then attacks Tharnog. Marvin dives in as well. I dive off the crows nest and charge down on him. Despite whacking him, he’s still up. Beregon magic missiles him. SharkJars tears into Tharnog and shreds him into chum, then collapses on the dwarf corpse. Jars’ form reverts to it’s tiger/human form, and all traces of shark are gone.

We clan up the deck, and apologize to Salty Pete. Cedrith casts gentle repose, and we debate using the magics required to raise them. Beregon makes plans to teleport to Procampur to raise Tharnog. Jars isn’t being raised. In Jars tribal custom, it falls to his family to eat his corpse (ewwww…..). Marvin eats Jars parts as he is his squire, and as much family as he has. While I respect his beliefs, I don’t partake of his flesh. Now what to do with the dwarf……

Interesting session last night to say the least. The winds of change are blowing.....

For my part I'll blame letting things get carried away on the noise and headache.

I think we're all more or less in agreement that the noise is getting a little too distracting. What can be done about it I'm not sure.

I don't consider playing in the back room to be a really viable option. Nor would playing upstairs really, we're a pretty big group, pretty big guys and it's a small cramped table when you consider putting down a map, minis, books, dice etc....

I'm going to use my powers of DM vetoness to rule those two options out.

That leaves us with 2 options as I see it. If you have another let us know.

A) We continue on as we have been in the basement and live with the noise.

or B) We change nights/locations.

I've spoken with Nico and he was thrilled at the idea of moving the game to Tuesday's and his place until he heard that Scott likely wouldn't be able to play. Which at this point is the only drawback to a move I can see.

Scott's put a lot of work into Migwin, there's some fun stuff coming up and I'd hate to have him miss out on it but here we are.

So I put it to the group do we stay and live with the situation trying to make the best of it or make a change to Tuesday's and Nico's?

Regardless of the decision we come to as a group on where to play there will be an XP posting bonus this week.

Two comrades have fallen. Jars and Tharnog will be missed. Perhaps Jars was too crazy to live, perhaps Tharnog redeemed himself in his last act of brave sacrafice....

It is time to eulogize your brave fallen comrades. What does Migwin, Cedrith, Grath, Marvin, and Beregon have to say? You have until Monday afternoon to post.

Then Kerry and Garret may reflect on what has been said about their characters as if they were watching from whatever afterlife found them. Bonuses will apply to their new characters.

Hello,

I am going to have a bit more of a think on our options, but I have to agree that the noise is getting to be more of a headache (pun intended, but it is literal as well).

I am Ok with switching to Tuesdays, but would miss having Scott out.  After all, Beregon and Migwin are buddies.

Something I will think about tonight and tomorrow.

Cheers

From the Journal of Migwin:

It has been a bizarre few days.  We've just had 2 deaths in our group, Tharnog the Dwarf and Jars the Barbarian.  As we lick our wounds from a skirmish with Jars, we continue on on journey, but the mood is a sombre one. It seems the might of our 2 strongest fighters resulted in both of their deaths.

Jars was behaving strangely toward the end.  He, like me, was ignorant of the customs observed here aboard ship.  The sailing folk have a different code than us folk from the plains, or from the frozen tundra.  Jars simply went hunting for food, rather animalistically, and caught and ate a fish called dolphin.  This is a sacred animal to the seafarers, and brings a ill omen should you harm one.  Well with his tiger persona taking root since that cursed island, his feral side dominated him and I think made him act out in that manner.  Regardless, he brought on the wrath of an evil sea god, who turned him into a shark hybrid of his original form.  This SharkJars became too difficult to control and had to be put down like a rabid dog.  It is a sad turn of events, as Jars was a good friend.  I hope he has found his version of the Great Hunting Grounds and is welcomed by his ancestors.

Tharnog was the one that took the brunt of SharkJars attacks on the group.  He fought valiantly, and died as a hero.  Although I haven't always seen eye to eye with the dwarf (he is short, as well as strange), he was a valued member of the group.  Perhaps I don't understand the impulsiveness and greed that is inherant in dwarven culture.  I believe dwarves have an afterlife, and if it is his wish to dwell in the rocks, then may they be big lumpy ones.

Well after talking to most of the group on Saturday and the others since then it has been decided although we hate to lose Scott we are going to move the campaign to Nico's apartment and Tuesday nights starting this week. Nico has said everyone should be good to head there for 4:30 or later.

The plan is to do a little BBQ, we'll need someone to grab some drinks and chips and what not.

Then we can figure out what characters need to be made, plans changed, etc.

If needed we can meet at Game Knight before hand to ferry over those who don't know the way. Perhaps even convince Scott to come and play for a last Big Mig Toss.
