So with the bolded news we can assume that WD will be the starter for league play, maybe even the booster! So if we play in the sealed event and league we could end up with mulitple starters and boosters of WD! Very nice deal!
Hmm, I don't know about that. I think in another thread Ian explicitly said that War Drums would be only handed out in the prerelease. I think it's more likely that they'll just hand out a double-sided map, two underdark boosters, and a token sheet as your league kit.
Benimoto, I think you hit it on the head. I bet we get one map and 2 boosters. As they are saying now tiles we can hope for no starters of Aberations and just 2 boosters from new sets (most likely Underdark). That being said, stanger things have happened, and you never know unitl the event starts. | | Sean Banks Champion of Elementals Official Organizer Gen Con 05 maxminis Event | Winterfantasy 06 maxminis Event | Gen Con 06 maxminis Event | Winterfantasy 07 Community Event

| From the official convention site:
"D&D Miniatures League
The drums of war sound in the distance as the remnants of the Underdark—both good and evil—prepare for a weekend-long melee. Build your best 200-point warband from two Underdark boosters and let a true hero surface as the victor of Winter Fantasy! "
It doesn't explicitly say you will get a map, but it is very clear that you will get two Underdark boosters. So, have no worries about getting more Aberrations starters!

| I've booked the travel arrangements and prepaid for most of the events - I'm all set for DDM fun in Feb!.
Regarding DemonKain's question: it is true, as Ack said, that you can pay on site. Last year, there were plenty of slots for all tournaments, so paying on site was never a problem.
The easy last minute access should generally be the case this year as well... except possibly for the Vintage sealed. You may want to sign up for this event early if you are interested. There are only 30 slots, and that may be a hard cap limited by how much DE and AR they have on hand. Everyone I have spoken to is planning on playing that event, so the 30 person limit might get appraoched.

| For people looking at alternate hotel arrangements, I'll toss in a suggestion for one of my favorite hotels in the area.
Sheraton Suites Old Town Alexandria 801 N St. Asaph St
All rooms are suites. Being the off season, average room price will be around $150/night (sometimes less as the date gets closer). The beds are comfy, and they have a free shuttle to get you to the Metro. Crystal City is a short ride away.
Its not as convenient as being in the same hotel, but its certainly cheaper and can be a more cost-effective solution if you're looking at sharing a room with one or more people (since its all suite).

| Vintage thoughts: Man if vintage is going to be a Archfiends and a Dragoneye then the draw is going to matter even more than any other sealed. Drawing an LSD is probably near a sure fan win in sealed format, an Eye, LRD, Champ, Red Sam (nice uncommon spot) are all still top notch figures, but in the older sets the stinkers were often big stinkers. Will be interesting to see, and I pray for the LSD :P | | Im out- find me on Hordelings if you want to chat. | |

Ditto. I'm not going to risk it. This is going to be THE event at WF. No tournament in WF has had 30 players, of course it could get broken the next day when they do the War Drums Prelease...

Too busy with my nose in the books to have caught this one earlier. Ugh.
For some reason, I would have thought 72 days in advance would have been enough to grab an open slot.

| We should jumpstart that discussion.
It seems clear that the 2 times that are the best fit are Friday night, and Saturday night.
I wold vote for Friday night. While there may only be a handful of MaxMini's members that play Living Greyhawk, I know that the Open Fiesta slot Saturday night is a RARE chance to play in LG scenario's that you'd NEVER get to play otherwise.
The argument for Saturday night is that the Prerelease is Saturday morning, and people may prefer to be fresh for that.
Lastly: I'm a bit nervous about taking over WotC's tables with 25+ people for our own tournament! GenCon was less of a big deal, we could have taken 3 steps to the right and found dozen's of tables that were not being used. Ian joked with me about paying him for his table rental, but I wonder how he will react to this. In this case WotC is paying for the rental of the room, and unless we start after 9:00 we are competing with potential League play.
Lets talk it out!

| | I vote for Friday night as well, preferably earlier than later. For some of us who will be riding the Metro, the Metro shuts down at midnight or 1 am (been a while since I've ridden it). Also I agree that it looks like you won't be able to play in two sealed events on Friday, unless of course you drop early on the first event [:)] | | Charles AKA The Beardless One, Proud Member of Team Amish | |

At lunchtime sometime next week I plan to take a test ride on the Metro over to Crystal City to see exactly how far of a walk it is to the hotel. If it's too far, I can write that method of travel off completely. I tentatively plan to drive in every morning, but I want to test the Metro route just to verify that it'll be too much of a headache. | | Champion of the Thoqqua
