Hey Scott? Any chance of putting this mini from reaper on back order if still available? I will have to paint a different one in the meantime cause otherwise I won't get the cool GET OUT OF DEATH CARD which REFRESHES itself thingy!!!
Sorry, I got busy and forgot to ask you for it! Hey Mike; embrassed to ask but what are those deadlines again. I might have to do everything on the weekend or I'll forget! | | Pounce goes the cat!!! Felix the Flounder strikes! All heed the Drunken Paladin who performs comedy!!!

Okay Rob, here's your special item. It is a single masterwork silver arrow with 2 special enchantments. Each morning you may pray to your deity to charge the arrow to strike a single type of enemy (goblin, wolf, orc, owlbear, white dragon, etc..) for an extra 1d6 damage. Once an enemy of that type is struck with the arrow the charge is spent. The arrow's second enchantment is that whenever fired and it stops it's flight it immediatly magicaly returns to your quiver up to 3 times per day.
And Scott I've decided to up the power of your lucky TDA deck. As soon as you invoke it's power you must choose another player at the table to roll a d6 for you. If their result is an even number your luck holds and you can use the deck's power another time that day as you see fit and the player that rolled the d6 for you gets a +2 bonus on their next d20 roll. Should the player rolling the d6 get an odd number though no more +1's for you and the roller suffers a -2 to their next d20 roll.

| Nymagus:
Born to one of the less powerful families in Cormanthor before the Retreat, he decided to stay in the area to save some of the books and scrolls of history his family had in their possession, from the time of the Retreat. They saved what few items they could. He spent the better part of his life studying the magical texts that were in his family's possession. Wanting to remember the elven court as the way it was he took up tailoring to make tapestrys of the tales contained in the texts. He found that the stories and texts that interested him the most were those written by the powerful elven mages of old.
There was however one non-elven wizard that was found in some of the more recent texts that interested him. The magus' name is Elminster of Shadowdale. Nym, as all his friends called him for short decided that he would travel to shadowdale and try to find more of Elminster's writings. He took with him a couple of his favorite texts, and a spellbook which had been given to him by his first teacher of wizardry. The journey was perilous to make alone but there were trade routes through the dalelands which were well travelled and he traded some of his tapestries he had in exchange for passage in carriages. His arrival in shadowdale brought some disappointment as the the man he had gone to study proved to be more of a man then the Magus he had always imagined. | | Knight of Ni Jay(Clerks 2) - would you "bleep" me?...i would "bleep" me...i would "bleep" me hard

So far we only have backgrounds from 1/3rd of the Chrises in the group and yet 100% of the Jorys have submitted theirs. Interesting....

100% of the Scott's have too, FYI. The figures were ordered on Monday. The supplier now puts in their order. When they receive it, they will pack ours to ship to us. Best case scenario is late next week.
I missed that figure of Nico's, but I may be able to get an add on or maybe source it from another supplier. | | "GameKnight Games and Cool Stuff Winnipeg's source for RPGs and minis!" www.gameknight.ca

| Hello all,
OK, it has taken a bit of time, but here is some info on the Cleric of the group:
Gawain Aranadan, Cleric 1 Human, Male, 5'9", 145 lbs, Brown Hair, Brown Eyes
Str     16 Dex   13 Con   14 Int    13 Wis    14 Chr   15
Languages:Â Common, Celestial, Chondathan
Feats:Â Improved Initiative, Scribe Scroll (slight change from before, Discple of the Sun at 3rd level)
Skills: (Ranked Only)
Concentration - 2 Diplomacy - 4 Heal - 4 Knowledge (Religion) - 4 Spellcraft - 2
Domains: Renewal, Sun
Background & History:
Gawain was born the second son and third child of Galen and Lyrinda Aranadan on the 10th of Mirtul, The Year of the Crown (1351), in Shadowdale. His parents were Dalesland traders, simple honest folk who only desired to travel their trade routes and live in peace. Gawain first went on a trading expedition when he was only a year old, accompanied by his parents and his elder siblings Tarian (b. 1346) and Tasha (b. 1349), and his yet unborn younger sister Alya (b. 1352). For the early part of his life Gawain either travelled with the entire family along the trade routes, or stayed with his mother and sisters in Shadowdale while his father and older brother made sales and deliveries across the Dalelands.
Although relatively strong from loading and unloading caravan carts, Gawain was always introspective and somewhat bookish as a child. He was often looked up to by his peers, when he chose to take charge, but he was hesitant and awkward with that role, as he felt that Tarian should be the one in charge of things. He was always looking out for his sisters, especially Alya, as the pretty girls attracted many suitors as they grew older.
Gawain's life took a major change on the 6th of Flamerule, The Year of the Shield (1367). The entire family was was travelling to Tilverton as part of a major summer trading run when their caravan was attacked by a large group of bandits supported by a necromancer with undead servants. For the first time in his life Gawain was faced with real combat. Although his father had ensured that his sons were trained in basic fighting skills, as trading was a dangerous business, Gawain was unprepared for a true battle. Forced on the defensive by men nearly twice his size and age, Gawain was barely able to defend himself and his sisters in the family wagon during the battle. Although he slew two bandits, Gawain witnessed both his father and brother being killed during the battle by animated skeletons. Gawain's mother was also mortally wounded during the battle, pierced by three arrows when she attempted to provide aid to her dying husband. She remained conscious long enough to make Gawain promise to look after his sisters. Between the efforts of the remaining caravan guards and the fortuitous arrival of an adventuring party the bandits, necromancer and undead were slain or driven off in the end, but Gawain's life lay in pieces.
For the next year and a half Gawain attempted to keep the family trading business alive, but too much stock had been destroyed in the bandit attack, and there was too much work for three young adults. Without income, the family lodgings in Shadowdale were also at risk of being lost. The family business was closed off with an auction of remaining goods early in The Year of the Gauntlet (1369). That same year Gawain took work as a porter and stablehand in one of the inns in Shadowdale (any named ones in sources?) where his sisters worked as servers in the bar. The work allowed them to keep the family house and pay all of their outstanding bills, but little was left for preparing the sisters for any sort of matchmaking outside of the low circumstances they found themselves in.
In The Year of the Tankard (1370) Tasha fell in love with Darian Fieldstone, a local adventurer (and possible low level Harper agent) and they were married at Midsummer. With one sister now taken care of, and the other now 18, Gawain began to think about his future. Alya was still troubled by the events of three years previously, and he knew he could not leave her. Together, both of them entered the Temple of Lathander as novices in Marpenoth.
Gawain threw himself into life as a novice, always trying to excel, and he showed promise in many areas of his studies. His combat skills became his forte, although his spellcasting was acceptable as well. Always Gawain was haunted by what had happened to his parents and older brother. He knew that if he could master the skills taught by the priests of Lathander then he would be able to prevent another family from experiencing what he had experienced. He remained worried about Alya, however, as her studies progressed more slowly than his. She was a good healer, but showed no appetite or apptitude for the combat arts.
As The Year of Wild Magic (1372) dawned, Gawain was nearing the end of his novitiate. But bad luck continued to dog his family.Â
*****
OK, here is where it becomes speculative. Tasha's husband is going to be in Tilverton when it disappears off the face of the earth (or is he, maybe he simply abandons her?). What do you say o' great DM?
I hope all of that works for everyone. If I have missed some bit of Realmslore that is important, please let me know.
@ jacksonm - supposedly I have a MW longspear as part of the Dalelands equipment package. Can that be swapped for something? Perhaps a masterwork heavy mace (as that is my main weapon) or extra gold, or something?
I will not be able to get out for any skirmishes this week, so no extra XP for me. I will see everyone next Wednesday for the game.
Cheers

I'll have to get back to you on the spear when I check my books at home to see what your other options were.
As for your bonus skills take 2 ranks of Knowledge (Local) and 2 ranks of Profession (Merchant).
Still thinking on your magic item. There's a few options I'm going over. Stay tuned.

| Bonus Item
Okay Mr Love here's your bonus item, a holdover trinket from your family's trading days. In this case it is a copper medallion decorated with many small rose and yellow quartz crystals in a sunrise pattern. At all times the medallion glows faintly with light about equal to a candle.
In the darkness it offers you a +1 Sacred bonus to your AC. That bonus goes to +2 against opponents who are Undead or otherwise negatively effected by daylight.
Enjoy. | | | |

| Well here we are still a mere few days away from the start of the campaign.
Let the d20 rolling begin this Wednesday.
The earlier everyone arrives the quicker we'll get started. My hope is to get things going by 6 but we'll see what happens. I will be there after work at 5 to sort out any last minute character issues. The first part of the session will be the intros and the like and hopefully set you up on the path to adventure.
If you have any questions before hand feel free to pose them here.
I'm still waiting on backgrounds from Nico and Chris Smythe but in the case of Smythe he is out of town so I may cut him some slack. No slack for the Nico though.

| The Player's Guide to Faerun
Just to make sure we're all on the same page here I'll go over the bonuses from the book again to make sure you have everything.
All the human players that come from the Dalelands recieve Chondathan as a free language. If you're still looking for a bonus feat you can take Blooded, Caravaner, Forester, Militia, or Luck of Heroes. You have your pick of one of the following a composite longbow (str +2), masterwork longbow, masterwork spear, or masterwork quarterstaff.
For our Cleric who wanted a Mace perhaps Cormyr would be a better starting area option. Eveningstar is a fine place to be for a Cleric of Lathander, your training could have taken place there even.
http://wizards.com/dnd/files/2/fr_downloads/tsr9486.zip
You can download a book on Cormyr there. They start with Chondathan as well. Bonus feats are Caravaner, Discipline, Foe Hunter (goblinoid), Furious Charge, or Saddleback. The possible bonus items are either a materwork longsword, masterwork heavy mace, or a suit of masterwork banded mail.
As for the Rob, you recieve Chondathan as well. Possible feats include Luck of Heroes, Fearless, Strong Soul, and Woodwise. You may take either a masterwork chain shirt or a scroll of Barkskin and Tree Shape.
Bach, your elf I'm guessing would have moved to Evereska so that would be your default starting region. Chondathan again. Bonus feats are Discipline, Gift of Tongues, and Magical Training. You bonus item can either be a suit of masterwork chainmail and 20 masterwork arrows or a wand of colorspray with 20 charges.
As for the Son on Dingle.... you get Damaran as a free language. Assuming you don't have a feat yet you may take Animal Friends, Forester, or Magic in the Blood. Extra item option of course was either a masterwork light mace, masterwork short spear, or the wand of cure light wounds with 20 charges.
If I left anyone out let me know.

| More game notes.....
House Rules
Just off the top of my head here's a couple you should be aware of.
After confirming a critical hit the way I do it is you roll your normal damage and double that, not roll additional dice.
I don't use the size rules for weapons, there are no small longswords or large shortspears or whatever. The Medium category in the PHB applies to all weapons. Size does count, in the hands of a human a longsword is a one hander weapon but to the gnome it's a two handed sword.
If I think of any more I'll let you know.

| How is that for a character history? Its got potential, especially where his failing memory is concerned. By the way the giant frog swallowed me whole. I had to escape before heading to Shadow Dale.
It is up to Mike as to whether that is a quality background or not. I threw the root in there to see if I would get the surivival skill rank. Some dungeoneering ranks for dealing with that hell hole. I am hoping that my holy symbol will help get rid of the never dying NI!
And Chris, I don't know if this means I am marrying one of your sisters or not. All praise the mighty DM Mike. Thanks Scott for ordering the Reaper Mini...who knows...maybe I won't need it if MIke says I didn't escape the giant frog....GADS!!! | | Pounce goes the cat!!! Felix the Flounder strikes! | So I read that backstory again and I think you just vaulted ahead of Bach in the crazy department. Seek help.
Based on that I think I should give you 4 ranks of Profession (Crazy Person)..... Instead 2 ranks of Perform (Comedy) and 2 ranks of Knowledge (Dungeoneering).
As for your magic item, sure why not..... It's a Masterwork Frogbane Dagger which does an extra 2d6 damage against frogs.

Looks cool. I'll try to remember to bring my painted mini tonight too. Update here, that should have been 2D6 extra damage, not 1d6.

| Nico:
Are those are the ramblings of a higher level Paladin that has been level drained into insanity. Maybe the tender ministrations of Alya can bring him back to usefullness.Â
Mike:
thanks for the update on my arrow. | | Champion of Champions (for all races! even Gnomes ) Reference Thread Winnipeg Gryphon Cavalry Forums

| Posted By The Beer Baron on 03/12/2007 11:42 AM It's Bach's fault I had to work. Meh, I'll just move a few ranks into sleight of hand and rectify the situation. It's your fault for not firing him lately.

| On a more serious note, it looks like our party will be in for interesting times in simply figuring out how we work with each other.
I guess Nico and I will have to work out how we know each other now, if he regains sanity that is.
I am going to stay with Dalelands as my background area, I will take the MW spear as a backup weapon I suppose, I can still use it as a simple weapon.
Thanks for the magic item there Mike, If we end up in the Underdark I suppose it will be plenty useful.
Cheers

| So it looks like everyone is set for a good start to the campaign this Wednesday. Chris Smythe won't be joining us until next week so I'm going to be lenient and push his deadline back to next week for his background. Will the party be able to survive missing 33.3% of its Chrises.....
Otherwise backgrounds have been recieved in one form or another from everyone. Good stuff. I think we have a good foundation for a fun campaign going.
Everyone good for Pizza Wednesday or shall we do a whopper run? It's been a while since we've done the Whopper...
Shout out if you have any remaining questions. Otherwise I'll see everyone Wednesday.

| The first part of the session will be player introductions as necessary. I'm thinking in the tap room of the Old Skull, perhaps over a friendly game of Three Dragon Ante....
If any of you wish to have a prior relationship before we begin on Wednesday feel free to work that out here. If I can be of any help let me know.
And no doubt it's going to be a colorful collection of adventurers.
Perhaps now would be a good idea to start thinking of names for your merry band. And who shall be your leader, Nico's Paladin?

| Well, my question is, who has stacked up their Diplomacy?
I know that I have a bit, and it sounds like Mico's paladin defers to Clerics of Lathandar, so I suspect I "outrank" him (unless he kills me first).
Cheers
As to food, pizza is OK by me, or Whoppers.

| | It has been quite a while since we did whoppers so why not, as long as I don't see that king guy between now and when I get my whopers. | | Champion of Champions (for all races! even Gnomes ) Reference Thread Winnipeg Gryphon Cavalry Forums
