| I for one am boycotting league, and the prerelease until scott does something about these people who have stolen all the fun from the game. DDM is a game people, not a freaking career. its meant to be fun for all, if you don't want to pay the $5 to have fun, keep your money and stay home, but know that i will for one not be ever welcoming you to any events. woohoo prerelease $42 for food, tshirt, repaint, and boosters. gameknight has by far the lowest prices on books, minis, and they still give added value for people coming out. i guess some people just can't see the SERVICE scott is doing by having these events. this is a much delayed response to nervo since he hasn't posted in a long time. guess what scott runs 2 businesses with next to no employees, has a wife, and 4 kids at home. you want him to take time from his life to make sure you go home with prizes, well guess what TOUGH. if i were him (thankfully i am not guy gets next to no sleep because of all the greif people give him around the store) i wouldn't want people who were flaming me on a public forum anywhere near my store EVER. it would very much be like comic book guy and his banned for life wall. scott is running a business but still enjoys playing the games. he pays his entry fees just like everyone else.
people like me who lose all the time don't go out for the prizes we go for the enjoyment of the game, which people have taken away with their job-like attitude towards the game. do i b!tch and complain about not getting anything when there are no prizes left for last place? sure as hell not because i got to go out and had the chance to beat richard. if you want to make this your job then go join the tour and leave the people who want to play for the fun of the game alone. or like you said go talk to your other venues and run your games there. you will not be missed by me or others that are like minded but too polite to speak up about it. i am an a$$hole and i know it. but i am also an employee here at the store, and as far as i know am allowed to refuse to serve customers at my discretion. people who rant and rave about my store on a public forum will not be getting served by me until scott forces me to help them.
by the way scott am i going to be working on prerelease saturday again? >=) (that's a devil for those of you who can't see it) | | Knight of Ni Jay(Clerks 2) - would you "bleep" me?...i would "bleep" me...i would "bleep" me hard

| Dice & Epic Cards just showed up for the release event. Dice are Black & Blue (like Crystal Caste Oblivion style) with silver numbers. The Night Below gate symbol is in place of the 20.
Epic cards are for Raistlin. I said when i looked at the poster and saw him as LG/CG that he should have been Any, or LE/LG. Maybe he should have been CG/CE. On the epic card, he is CE. | | "GameKnight Games and Cool Stuff Winnipeg's source for RPGs and minis!" www.gameknight.ca

| Hello,
Nice to see 11 people out tonight for league. I quite enjoyed myself, even if I did lose one match. Seems like we have lots of eclectic band ideas, which menas nobody can hope for good match ups each time.
What will happen next time? What will I have to rebuild?

| Indeed, it was a nice turnout. Hopefully it bodes well for tomorrow.
One of the things I am liking about this format is with everyone playing a different commander you get a variety of warbands and figures each night.
As predicted there was a lot of moving and shaking this week. Garret vaulted into 1st place. I'll post the current standings later today once I've had the chance to verify the results.

| There are the standings after the 4th League session. It was great to see the new people out to play.
In other news Scott's ice themed band was voted the best theme this week making it a 4 way tie for overall best theme band. Who will bring a great theme next time and make it a 5-way...

| I don't like the way things are looking for me. I'm in 13th, I had 13th pick of a commander, and as we all know 13 is the unluckiest number. Oh and I picked up and Ice Mephit as a prize yesterday and guess what? It's point cost is 13. After using both the Ice Devil and Wraith, I am now ging to start using close to competative warbands. It was fun using them, but I couldn't maneuver enough. Plus, I don't think people have seen a Wraith played since harbinger. | | Disipline is the only way to overcome chaos. And July 13th is a Friday. And Night Below is the 13th set of minis. | | Disipline is the only way to overcome chaos. I would tend to agree with you. I'm also disappointed in some of the rarities. i'd have much preferred an uncommon dread wraith and a common shadow for example. A rare chaos beast woulda been fine with me as well. Not really gonna need multiples of them. | |

And who were the 11 that showed up? You lost that many points because the top 4 people didn't attend (yourself, Jeff, Jory, and Tom). Essentaily you all droped 5 point behind each other until it sorted out. More or less when you dropped down that putt Jeff in first place so he had to drop to Jory who dropped.... when i had it worked out I never thought the top 4 people would ever miss a session.
In attendance were Scott, Garret, Bram, Chris L, Norm, Jay, Brian, Mark, Tyler, Andy, and myself.

| Ah, I figured you'd sort it out after the games had been played. Just play it out normally then make sure there's a new first place person, as opposed to dropping everyone who didn't show up until you'd gotten a new 1st place person at the beginning.
EDIT: Shouldn't we have dropped to 90 points then? The highest ranked people that were there would've been Mike J and Tyler and 95. If you drop the four that weren't there to 95, all six are tied, but the first tiebreaker is whoever is higher ranked, so the four that weren't there would've kept their spots. They would've needed to drop to 90 for their to be a new #1.

| I double checked the math and you Jory and Jeff should have only been dropped to 100 points, not 95. It doesn't change the rankings in any way but you're a little closer to the top again.
Edited above to reflect that.

| Well I decided to take a break from the internet for a while.
Scott, I had no idea that you were out of town, and was frustrated at the lack of response, so I apologize that I got so heated. I wasn't saying that you're a crooked businessman. You do charge fair market value for minis, albeit the high end of fair market value. What I am saying is that you don't know how to run a tournament properly.
I hear this rhetorical question, "how much is hosting these tournaments worth?" Well, it's not a paid position. Figure it out, and then charge for it, and charge a consistent amount per head. Don't just make it an arbitrary amount depending on how many people show up.
I hear you laminate maps for use. You know what, I still had to start buying and bringing my own because you didn't have enough multiples of the same ones. So figure out how much that is worth, and charge for it, but only charge those that use that service.
I understand that you're only supposed to give away repaints and epic cards, but it seems as though you've found a slippery way to retail them.
You said your motto is you can please some people all of the time and all the people some of the time buy you can't please all the people all the time. All I have to say is that I never asked for five dollar boosters, I never asked you to give away the store. I just asked for a reasonable minimum prize for an official tournament one that provides value for the dollar, and I don't think that there is anyone who goes to your tournaments who would be displeased by that. I've already spent $145 on minis this month in other stores.
Bach, you'll just have to get a job somewhere else if you EVER want to deny me service. Good luck on that, because you are the single rudest person that I have ever seen working in a retail store. Last pre-release you were handing out t-shirts asking, "what size... fat ass?" I would have fired you on the spot. The simple fact that Scott continues to employ you indicates to me that he doesn't know what he's doing.
You know what, I don't even care about going home with prizes. If I come in any less than first place, I'd be happy to walk away with nothing, but I'd be embarrassed if I paid five bucks, went undefeated and got nothing but a repaint and an epic card. Garrett, you won first place in a sanctioned tournament and you didn't get a prize that you wanted to keep, and I think that's a shame. I'd feel ripped off, and there is nothing you can say but "too bad you feel ripped off." Well guess what, my gaming money is going to other stores now. When I say "the customer is always right" I don't mean to suggest that you have to give your customers carte blanche, I mean to say that as a businessman you depend on those customers to feed your wife and kids, and if you don't listen to them when they say they're not getting value in your store, they will take their money elsewhere, like I have done.

Good, its less time your on this site acting like a @$%^
What I am saying is that you don't know how to run a tournament properly.
Let's see you do it
I hear this rhetorical question, "how much is hosting these tournaments worth?" Well, it's not a paid position. Figure it out, and then charge for it, and charge a consistent amount per head. Don't just make it an arbitrary amount depending on how many people show up.
It's his store
I hear you laminate maps for use. You know what, I still had to start buying and bringing my own because you didn't have enough multiples of the same ones. So figure out how much that is worth, and charge for it, but only charge those that use that service.
He doesn't HAVE to do that yet you STILL complain about it
I understand that you're only supposed to give away repaints and epic cards, but it seems as though you've found a slippery way to retail them.
By giving them out as prizes?
You said your motto is you can please some people all of the time and all the people some of the time buy you can't please all the people all the time. All I have to say is that I never asked for five dollar boosters, I never asked you to give away the store.
Sounds like it, considering the prices you want
I just asked for a reasonable minimum prize for an official tournament one that provides value for the dollar, and I don't think that there is anyone who goes to your tournaments who would be displeased by that. I've already spent $145 on minis this month in other stores.
Good for you
Bach, you'll just have to get a job somewhere else if you EVER want to deny me service.
NO, he won't have to, again it's Scott's store
Good luck on that, because you are the single rudest person that I have ever seen working in a retail store.
You consider him worse than yourself?
Last pre-release you were handing out t-shirts asking, "what size... fat ass?" I would have fired you on the spot.
It was a joke
The simple fact that Scott continues to employ you indicates to me that he doesn't know what he's doing.
So he's not supposed to have ANY imployes? Shows that you REALLY know how to run a bussienes
You know what, I don't even care about going home with prizes. If I come in any less than first place, I'd be happy to walk away with nothing, but I'd be embarrassed if I paid five bucks, went undefeated and got nothing but a repaint and an epic card.
Then go away and leave us alone
Garrett, you won first place in a sanctioned tournament and you didn't get a prize that you wanted to keep, and I think that's a shame. I'd feel ripped off, and there is nothing you can say but "too bad you feel ripped off."
But he DID get to play
Well guess what, my gaming money is going to other stores now.
Good, we don't want you around here
When I say "the customer is always right" I don't mean to suggest that you have to give your customers carte blanche, I mean to say that as a businessman you depend on those customers to feed your wife and kids,
And if he listened to your advice they would be starving
and if you don't listen to them when they say they're not getting value in your store, they will take their money elsewhere, like I have done.
Have you ever noticed ANY one of us complain about scott? I don't think so.
Have fun at the pre-release everyone!

rudeness it given only when deserved. apparently sarcasm is a lost art with you, as well is joking between friends. you don't have to worry about having the power to fire me because i would never work for someone who has such little respect for the time other people put into their jobs, and home lives. as for scott keeping me on, i stay here to help him because he needs the help. ask any customer that comes in to this store i am kind, and go out of my way to see that leave the store happy, and with what they came in for. do i try to up-sell people, of course i do that's part of my job. you will not find a single person that shops at this store when i am working with a bad thing to say about how i do my job.
as for me not being able to deny you service, good i hope to never see you in the store again. one less customer that isn't satisfied with scott, i or the other employees here going out of their way to make people happy. we go out of our way to find products for people if we don't have it in the store, that is what makes gameknight stand apart from all the other stores. if you want to see rude people in retail i suggest you watch Clerks, Mall Ratz or go to pendragon when John is having a bad day. | | Knight of Ni Jay(Clerks 2) - would you "bleep" me?...i would "bleep" me...i would "bleep" me hard

| Yay!!!
My first case of Star Wars Minis ever!! I'm pretty happy with my pulls....
Here are the Rares/Very Rares that I'm keeping:
Rampaging Wampa (VR) Obi Wan, Force Spirit (VR) Han Solo on Tauntaun (VR) Stormtrooper on Repulsor Sled (VR) Mara Jade, Jedi (R) Han Solo in Stormtrooper Armor (R) Storm Commando (R)
Here are the ones I have for trade:
Lando Calrissian, Dashing Scoundrel (R) Han Solo, Rogue (R) Chewbacca, Enraged Wookiee (R) Princess Leia (R) Imperial Governor Tarkin (R)
Also, in the Underdark Booster that I bought, I pulled a Balor that I have up for trade.
Here's what I need from Star Wars Minis:
Luke's Landspeeder (VR) Darth Vader, Imperial Commander (VR) both Fetts from Bounty Hunters (VR) Mandalore (VR) Ewok Hang Glider (R) Biggs Darklighter (VR) Quinlan Vos, Infiltrator (VR) Aurra Sing, Jedi Hunter (VR) Boba Fett, Enforcer (VR) Admiral Piett (R) Chewbacca w/ C-3PO (VR)
Anyone want to trade? At this point, I'm looking mainly for Star Wars, but I still may consider a few cool D&D pieces (CG/CE only). Actually, I was hoping that my extra Balor might snag me a Boba Fett.........I know SOMEONE has one that they want to trade....
Hope everything goes well at the Night Below prerelease today......I'm off to the beach with ma familia.....
Toodles!

Have fun at the pre-release everyone! You know, the best thing I can do is just ignore you at this point. But you still seem to have some delusions about what I do here.
First of all what I do is considered work. Don't assume I'm just here for fun. Yes my work can be fun sometimes, but it it is still work.Â
Second, I have been running tournaments now for 3 years. So you saying I don't know how to run a tournament is just an insult. What you should be saying is that I don't run tournaments the way you want to see them ran. Guess what - viva la diffrence. I'm sure somewhere in North America you can find one to your tastes.
I have establihed a $5 entry fee and have been consistant in prizing for the most part. Sometimes there is extra stuff to give away, and sometimes the retailer kits get delayed (like this month as they will not be here for Thursday). I do what I can with the resources at hand. Have you read the tournament guideline from WOTC?  Entry fees across the land typically range from $2 to $7. Here's how prizing should be (according to WOTC):
1st place - 3 promo miniatures and 1 spell/effect template and adventure 2nd place - 2 promo miniatures and 1 spell/effect template and adventure 3rd and 4th - 1 promo miniature each 1 epic stat card to each participant, if there is enough.
Hmmm.....seems like if I reduced entry fees and this is what I did I'd have a lot of dissappointed customers complaining of getting the same stuff over and over. And what would Richard do with all those repaints? Lots of you wouldn't even have a chance to get one either, unless you did some trading.
I have laminated maps for our customers use. It is an extra service I provide (not required to run sanctioned events). I am not going to charge 1 individual over another for use of these maps. Too much work for starters, and it is part of what I am doing for those $5 entry fees you have a problem with.
I am not retailing single cards nor repaint promos. They remain in the prize box for use during non-sanctioned tournaments. There may be 2-3 singles from past sets that are in my bins of commons/uncommons, and they got there from me taking in trades. Is that slippery? Maybe I'll go through the bins and pull those out if it bothers you. Nobody else seems to care.
If you don't feel my existing prize structure is worthy, well that's just too bad. I've said I would look at revising it. I have spent lots of time already looking at this. Don't think that I haven't. It takes time to implement any changes, and I'm not sure yet how much I want to change it. I have some ideas though. But you've already decided that my store isn't good enough. So why do you still care.
Bach does a good job. I wish he was here 40 hours a week. But then he would deem that cruel and unusual punishment. If he made a comment that offended you, you should have brought it to my attention at the time and I would have addressed it. At this point it just seems like you are using that against me in your personal vendetta.
And finally, as I've told you before, I do listen to my customers. I have made changes in the past to improve my store, and the tournaments I run. I will probably do so again. But I am not a rash individual and will not change my ways for 1 person the moment they think those chages are necessary. I am looking at changes, but I doubt that you, at this point, even care.
So good luck finding a store that runs better tournaments. And good luck running your own if that is what you choose to do. I hope you enjoy the work planning, running, problem solving, reporting and keeping everyone happy.

| Hello Richard and all,
Well, I will try to post a more complete report later of the pre-release. I ended up going the distance and winning this time around. It was an amazing day for me 6-1 in the end, with my only loss being in the first round against Mike J whom I also faced in my last game.
For reference, my warband was:
Large Shadow Dragon Orc Breakback Rider Kalashtar Bodyguard Champion of Dol Dorn Darkmantle Delver Sergeant
Great to see 19 people out with at least 5 new people. Considering a few regulars were away it was a nice event. Several of my games were quite close, but enjoyable.
Cheers
