Batch, well i can only say one thing... All Hail the Rudest Person in Retail! We got to get that on a T-shirt.

Marco, Great job. It's always good to see fresh faces in the fianls.

Another fine pre-release Scott. There's a reason that your the BEST place in town to play at. We all have a hell of a lot of fun. Shame that some people forget why we play games. Too have fun. Hope your got that Jeff. Seems like you have forgoten how to have it.

Puffmaul: i have a Han Solo on Tauntaun as well as the stuff i got form the relaese event, madey we can do a SWM DDM swap

And lastly I'm looking for a Virtuous Charger. She's #1 on my hit list. If you have an extra let me know what you want for it. All reasonable offers will be considered. All stupid offers will be forworded to the Rudest Person in Retail.

Indeed, a good time was had by all. Lot of fun, close games.

Should be an interesting set when it comes to constructed skirmish. Nothing really jumping out as a dominant game changing piece but lots of good figures. Should make for some interesting new warbands.

Thanks again to Scott for running a great event. Hopefully we can do it all again next Saturday for the Night Below release. It's a good time to be a loyal Game Knight patron.

I just went through the minis from my prize boosters and somehow I ended up wih a Brass Golem card and Kalashtar Bodyguard mini that don't match. Could be a mistake in the box or perhaps they got mixed at the table, any missing from yours Chris or Bach?

Hey guys,

Yesterday was lots of fun. Its nice to know that even the n00b guy can come out with a nice prize at the end of a hard day of battling. I cant wait to play my new pulls.

The repaints we got are also nice pieces. I expect they'll got lots of use. You just can't have too many Albino Barghests beaters.

MJ: I dont have your mismatched bits either.

Hello,

Again, thanks to everyone who helped organize on Saturday and to everyone who came out to make a great event.  I am still taking in winning the thing.

@ MikeJ, everything matched at my end for minis and cards (and I did not actually open any cards at the store).  Looks like you get to contact Wizards about product replacement.  Make an issue of it and they should send you an extra mini as compensation (at least they did for me in the past).

Now all I have to worry about is a 100 pt band for Thursday and how next Saturday is going to go for the release event.

Cheers

I moved it to the second Thursday this month so the new Night Below figures would be legal to play in it. In August it will return to being the 1st Thursday of the month.

Normally I run a 200 point game the Saturday after the release but this year we have the release event so there you go.

I can accept that reasoning. Still don't like 100 pt games though.

Hi Guys,

With the impending release of Night Below just wanted to remind you guys i still exist and will probably want to do some local trading before going postal.  I'm only getting 4 cases again so I'll probably be needing a fair number of trades like last time (Thanks again Richard and Chris).  Remember though that because of my outstanding disagreement with Scott over store attendance fees i will be conducting trades off Gameknight property.

Cheers and good luck on your pulls,

Dan

Hey all,

So, I will attempt to provide some sort of tournament report here for the Pre-release from my point of view.  I don't have too many details written down aside from point totals during games, so this is going to be rough and ready.

My warband:

Orc Banebreak Rider
Large Shadow Dragon
Champion of Dol Dorn
Kalashtar Bodyguard
Delver Sergeant
Darkmantle

Map - Mithral Mines

Swiss Rounds

Game 1 - vs Mike J.

Lady Vol
Raistlin
Giant Eagle
Drow Enforcer
Kalashtar Bodyguard
Deep Legionnaire (I think)

This game was played on the Ratfang Sewers map, with all of the stench issues that entails.  Lady Vol was a tough customer and while I did manage to eliminate Raistlin quite quickly form the match (along with a bunch of fodder) the Giant Eagle took out my commander in the second round (or was it first?) and the Orc Banebreak Rider was paralyzed for three rounds which meant problems with bringing a great deal of hitting power to bear.  in the end it cmae down to initiative.  If I had won initiative my remaining Orc Banebreak rider with 25 hp was in position to smash Lady Vol with only 40 hp if I recall correctly.  One trample and hit later and I could have one.  As it was, Mike won initiative and swatted the Banebreak to death.  My strategy in the game was not helped by forgetting to apply the conceal 6 of the Shadow Dragon (something I did in every other match after that).

Record 0-1

Game 2 - vs Kerry B.

Lifeleech Otyugh
2 x Chaos Beast
2 x Deep Legionnaire
Greater Barghest
Heirophant of the Seven Winds

I lost map initiative again in this match and we ended up playing on Field of Ruin.  The first and second rounds were spent moving for position around the central victory area.  Then the battle was engaged in earnest.  I had most of the luck in the match, despite my Champion of Dol Dorn and the Large Shadow Dragon being swatted with Corporeal Instability by the dual Chaos Beasts.  In round 4 I eliminated the Barghest, in round 5 I eliminated one Chaos beast, and in round 6 Kerry conceded after I routed both the other Chaos Beast and the Otyugh.  He managed to rally both creatures, but thought that I had a commanding position on the map.

Record 1-1

Game 3 - vs Christophe

Greyhawk Militia Sergeant
Prisoner
Deep Legionnaire
Halfling TombSeeker
Medusa Archer
Gnoll Claw Fighter
Heirophant of the Seven Winds
Assassin

I finally won map initiative for this match, so we played on Mithral Mines.  I don't recall much of this match, aside from the fact that tile points were not a factor because both tile grabbers with scout/wandering monster were eliminated in the second round.  I dominated this match with the only peice lost on my side being the Darkmantle.  I do remember that although Christophe gamely tried to turn many of my pieces to stone with the Medusa I kept making the saves.

Record 2-1

Game 4 - vs Jesse

Aspect of Loviatar
Noble Salamander
Prisoner
Deep Legionnaire
Earth Mephit
Krenshar
Greyhawk Militia Sergeant

I won map initiative again, so we again played on Mithral Mines.  Again, victory points did not come into it for the game as point grabbers were ruthlessy eliminated early in the match.  I had a few strokes of luck in this match that helped seal it in my favour.  First, I managed to kill of Jesse's commander, then the Aspect of Loviatar failed a morale check and routed off the board.  Finally, initiative went my way in the last round and I managed to have my Kalashtar Bodyguard and Shadow Dragon combine to knock off the Noble Salamander.  Conceal assisted me no end in this match, as the Dragon was down to 30 hp at the end.  Both the Champion of Dol Dorn and the Orc Banebreak Rider put up good fights, but ultimately they died against the Aspect and Salamander.  They did soften the two up, however, for the endgame.  Jesse played a hard game, and it could have gone either way.  He noted to me that I was the only person during the day to rout the Aspect off the board or otherwise eliminate her.

Record 3-1

Game 5 - vs Rob M.

Scorrow
Barghest
Greater Basilisk
Greyhawk Militia Sergeant
Kobold Trapsmith
Babau
Prisoner
Hobgoblin Marshal

At this point we now had 1 person at 4-0 and four of us at 3-1 in the tournament.  I knew that I had to win in order to advance to the finals.  Rob's band had done well for hims during the day, with the Basilisk turning many things to stone.  Things looked Ok for me when I won map initiative and selected Mithral Mines as my playing field.  Just like my band Rob had a lot of hitting potential there, so I had to be careful.  We manouvered for position for the first round and a half, and then things got right down to it.  In the last half of the second round Rob managed to rout my Orc Banebreak Rider.  Luckily due to position it did not go off the board, but it was close.  If I could rally the Banebreak I might have a chance of salvaging things.  I did manage to rally the rhino at the end of round 2, and at the start of Round 3 I sacrificed it to get rid of his Basilisk.  The Rhino followed in death in the next phase, but I also took out the Kobold Trapsmith and had the Prisoner go "blip" without an adjacent ally.  In Round 4 I manged to eliminiate the Scorrow and the Barghest in return for my Darkmantle no longer scoring victory points.  In Round 5 Rob eliminated the Shadow Dragon, but my Champion of Dol Dorn and Kalashtar Bodyguard continued to stand their ground.  Round 6 saw me kill off the Babau and that was the game once VP were also totalled.

Record 4-1

Finals

So, I had made it to the finals.  Two more games and I could win everything.  Something to shoot for, but just being in the finals was a pretty good feeling.

Game 6 - vs Chris B.

Dire Tiger
Digester
Champion of Dol Dorn
Prisoner
Greyhawk City Militia Sergeant
Arcadian Avenger

I lost map initiative, so we ended up playing on the Hellspike map.  This proved to be another challenging match that went down to the wire.  I routed the Dire Tiger and Prisoner off the board and killed the Greyhawk City Militia Sergeant by the end of round three, but I only had one round of VP before the Darkmantle was eliminated as well by the Avenger.  I made some bad tactical moves in rounds two, three and four that resulted in the loss of my commander, the Orc on Rhino, and the Shadow Dragon.  I managed to finally eliminate the Digester in Round 5 and my wounded Champion of Dol Dorn moved to the lower victory area on the Hellspike to score VP for the next three rounds.  The Kalashtar continued to snipe away at things and did some damage, but was eliminated in Round 7, leaving me with one creature to Chris's Avenger and Champion of Dol Dorn.  It came down to initiative and attacks in round 8.  If I did not win initiative I would lose unless Chris rolled 4 1s in a row.  I managed to win initiative and killed Chris's Champion of Dol Dorn, that combined with the 40 vp I had allowed me to win on points.  I was through to the final match.

Record 5-1

Game 7 - vs. Mike J.

Well, I was facing the same band I had started against.  This time I won map initiative, so we played on Mithral Mines which was a much better map for my band.  This time around my experience with the band (especially remembering conceal 6 on the Drgaon) allowed me to play a much smarter game.  Mike tried his hardest to set up Raistlin for some major spell action on my warband, but I routed the mage in the first round and he failed to rally in the second, going off the board.  By the end of the seocnd round, in fact, I had eliminated both Raistlin and the Giant Eagle.  In round three I killed off Mike's Kalashtar Bodyguard as all of my big hitters moved into position to take out Lady Vol.  The same round Mike's Drow Enforcer eliminated the Darkmantle so VP would not be a factor again.  In Round 4 Mike eliminated  the Shadow Dragon and caused a morale check on the Orc Banebreak Rider which was passed.  In turn, I elminated his Deep Legionnaire.  Round 5 decided the match as I won initiative and finally smacked down Lady Vol.

Record 6-1 and overall winner of the Pre-release.

Again, it was a great day out in my opinion with lots of good opponents.  Three of my matches came down the the last round initiative in order for me to win, and I was lucky with the dice rolls.  Now, can I repeat at the Release event?  I doubt it, but that depends on pulls I suppose.

If anyone wants to chime in with corrections, please let me know.

Cheers

Happy Tuesday!

This week:

Weds - D&D RPG, A&A minis. Will anyone show up for A&A? Will anyone bust Lannister Lazenby out of jail?
Thurs - DDM 100 points. The small game, Richards favourite! Will we do Minis Midnight Madness? Sound off, with a half a dozen people I'll keep the shop open until after midnight!
Friday - Night below figures officially release.
Sat - SWM 100 points @ 10:00. A small SW minis game. Too bad Richard didn't play SWM! DDM Release Event @1:00! Special dice, epic Raistlin cards, and a chance to win more boosters!

I'm glad our pre-release went off well. Thank you to all who came out. We had 5 new players, which is good to see. I'm glad you all had some fun, and a sneek peek of the minis to come!

I can't speak for the Axis & Allies guys this week but I have it on good authority that Felix Flounder is at this very moment planing a jail break....

I'll be down for minis Thursday, I could probably be persuaded to do a little Midnight Madness. If not I'll be down after work on Friday to pick up my cases.

Saturday I'll be there to play Star Wars and either run or play in the Night Below release event. Let me know if you hear anything on it getting changed Scott.

Another fun week at Game Knight shaping up.

Not sure if I'll be out for 100 pts, but either way I wouldn't stay for Midnight madness.

The Release starts at 1:00 on Satruday? I thought it would be starting at 10. Are we just planning on the three rounds? not that i'm all that sad to see it starting at 1. Means I'll get to sleep in.

It does start at 1 PM although being there a bit early to pay for the boosters etc is a good idea. It's going to be a standard 3 round sealed event.

For a sealed event, is there an entry fee above the cost of the two boosters?

The cost of the sealed event this Saturday and all other ones is just the cost of the 2 boosters themselves. No additional fees are involved. Plus the top 4 places get boosters, how can you complain about that.
