Well,

Now I can get back into the thread.

That is a pain in the butt.  Being denied access seems to be totally random.

In response to Mike's question in the other thread, I should be in for D&D next week, but likely will be late, as I am working in Portage la Prairie all day.

Cheers

You may need to start a fresh thread?
I was going to suggest getting thread past the page 5 and see if it help...

Hello again,

The thread seems to be working again.  Maybe it was just page 5 as Bert indicated?

Great game tonight.

Thanks to Mike for DMing again.  I got to use my Greater Turn twice.  Turning undead to dust is always nice.  Ineffective against the "Ghost", but you can't win them all.

And yeah cleric for finding the concealed compartment under the Wererat bed.

Boo overall to all the ability damage and poisoning.  That said, we need to work on our discipline in battle, procedures for opening doors, etc., so we don't suffer as much in the future.  More coordination will help, and now that we have some loot to upgrade our abilities better armour and weapons will also help.

Cheers

yep another good session on the books, dispite being nearly ineffective against the ghost at least I managed to finish it off.

Better gear is always nice.  Now we just need a bunch of rations and we should be good to finish that dungeon.

Hello,

I almost forgot; we need to get a mule as well.

You can take mules in dungeons according to all the rules, and he can carry more rations and the like (plus treasure, so that we all remain with light or medium loads).

What is it with your fascination with mules? What we need is a portable hole. And a bag of holding to put it in!

Another great game tonight. That hour and a half in the middle not withstanding.

Highlights - um...rolling great most of the night. Oh, and a shiny silver magic mug. What is it? .......oooo I can't wait........

Lowlights - rolling crappy on all my saving throws. Arrrrgh....4 strength and loot to carry!

Misc feedback - I agree with Omand about door protocal. Lets pretend we're a swat team, use hand signals and "raid" the dungeon. Roll playing bickering characters is fun, but there is death behind those doors!

Glad everyone is enjoying so far.

I'll probably do a little wrap up later today and set things up for you to take care of your business back in town.

Also if the random not being able to post problem does persist I'll start a new thread before the next session.

Okay, Lannister wants to cash in his loot. I think I'll look up this Elmer Sinister guy I've heard of and see if he wants to buy some of those silver elf books. I'll see what kind of reaction he gets from 1 book at a time and not tell him we have a wagonload full of them. I'm sure I can hire some porters to go back and load them all up. Maybe he can tell us what the other stuff does too.

I'll check around town to see if there are any shops that buy/sell/trade magic & mundane items of special interest. I'll then do a little bartering with the them on the rest of the unclaimed swag, to see what we have.

After that I think I need to get my strength back. I'll find a few tavern wenches and lots of wine to help with that.

Hello,

My fascination with mules, where to begin ...

OK, here is the real reason.  Mules don't go boom when mixed with another extra-dimensional space as is the case with the aforemetioned portable hole and bag of holding.

Now, would I love to have a bag of holding?  Yes!  Just don't see it happening right away.

Plus, the mule has animal senses that can help with guarding camp, and sensing things in dark dungeons.

Cheers

Torches help with seeing things in dark dungeons as well. So do elven rogues with the alertness feat.

I'm glad someone caught the portable hole/bag of holding faux pas.  Leave it to the wisdom of the cleric!

I see your point about mules.  They can also come in handy other ways also:

1)   As an added bonus you can hide behind them, giving you 50% cover whilst you dispense ranged attacks!Â
2)   We can use them as meat sheilds in melee combat!  Additional, you can manuever around your opponent to use your mule co-hort to get a flanking bonus.
3)   And should we find the need to run away from a hungry Owlbear - knee-cap and feed it mule - and make our escape.
4)   Should we run low on food....... "Hey Cutter, which part of the mule is Bacon?!?!"Â
5)   When we open the door to explore a new room, the mule can go first.  If there is an undetectable pit/spear/scything blade trap, the mule sets it off and spares a valuable party member.  As an added bonus see use number 4 above.
6)   Send the mule ahead to help negate ambushes!  When the bugbears in the room ahead hear something coming, and the door opens and it's just a mule, surely they will burst out laughing (then we jump in and kill them).

I'm all for mules now........

Okay.....

Session 2 - Post Mortem

Here's how it plays out when you leave the mysterious elven tomb to return to Shadowdale and tend to your various wounds.

The two day trip back to town is more or less uneventful except for Veil the bard who takes sick.... he loses 1 point of Con and 2 points of Dex. Gawain identifies he is the sad victim of Ghoul Fever!!!

Those of you who journey to the Temple of Lathander will be treated to the news that Gawain, Cutter, and Nymagus have been infected with the Curse on Lycanthropy from those wererats!!!

The next full moon is three days hence. Perhaps you already feel the need to gnaw on some cheese.....

Fortunately for Gawain you arrived back in time to allow a Cure Disease to remove the infliction from him, and his temple superiors do so. Unfortunately for the rest of you there were no more Cure Diseases available. Therefore by the order of the Lord of Shadowdale the two of you and confined to the temple until the night of the full moon where the priests will be able to cast Remove Curses on you. Of course such services come with a price as Gawain will soon learn.....

As for the rest of you, you are free to go about your business as normal. If you have any specific business you want to take care of let me know.

Figuring out how you want to distribute the treasure now is probably a good idea.

Geez, it's a good thing Laryn decided to continue searching for his lost friend on his own. Ghoul fever and half the party afflicted by lycanthopy after two sessions? You should really learn to wash your hands after playing with undead. And stay away from rats, they carry disease ya know.

Hello all,

Yeah, an interesting second session.  No deaths is good, however.

Obviously, I am going to be in debt in this game to my temple just like in the last game.

I will have a long laundry list of things to do in town, besides finding silver weapons to potentially have to kill my companions with.

More on that list later.

Cheers

Almost forgot ...

Mules, maybe we should have two?

I realize that the Beer Baron is speaking partially tongue in cheek, but there are advantages to having beasts of burden as he points out.  I don't quite agree with the pit trap fodder sentiment, but cover and distractions are good tactics to consider.

Plus, mules can go down stairs (even spiral staircases) and might even attack if trained properly (ornery is a good word for their behaviour).

Did I mention they are only 8 gp per mule and they can carry something like 25 days rations for 6 people, and their own mule food?

Cheers

I'm the cute lil kitten of course.

I really shoulda made Laryn into a warlock. His stats woulda been almost perfect for the class. Plus I've never played a warlock. Course, I've never played a sorcerer before either, which is one of the reasons he ended up as one.

The Legend of Fiddlin' Dingle Oakenheart - Part 4 (What goes up must come down, hard)

Fiddlin' on the Homestead, like all songs all good things must come to an end.....

Life was bliss for young Dingle and his new wife Adele. His father was proud of the boy, his trouble with the bandits behind him and putting aside thoughts of music for the simple life as a farmer. Gordon Oakenheart bought his son a fine plot of land down by the river where Dingle first met Adele and together the young couple built their own farmstead. There they settled down into life as turnip farmers, at night they sung and played music together but Dingle no longer dreamed of travel and playing in distant lands.

This life of domestic bliss continues without trouble for a couple of years until one tragic spring after a long, snow filled winter. Each morning Adele would journey down to the riverside and greet the morning with a song. Tragically one spring morning was unseasonably warm and the snows melted far too quickly. A sudden torrent of raging icy cold water rolled down the river from the mountains above catching an unaware Adele in it's wake and carrying her away as it flooded the Dingle farm.

Young Dingle rushed to save his bride but he was too late. He arrived in time only to see her go beneath the water, not to rise again. Adele drowned in the river she loved to sing beside, all Dingle could do was swim and try to catch her... drag her to dry land..... and weep at his dead wife's side.....

Well a series of emailed rumors and other campaign info has gone out to each player. Feel free to do with the information you received as you wish.

All in all I think we should be set to resume the campaign this Wednesday, starting with taking care the last of your in town business. Mules for everyone perhaps.

Everyone good for pizza this week?

I'll investigate those rumours a bit more. I'll see if the bandits sound familiar at all. Were there any first hand accounts? Does it soound like Oleg? Is there a reward?

And that beast, sounds terrible. I'll lock my Inn room door at night, well I'll let the wenches know to knock softly.....

Fixed the link.

The bandits more or less sound like bandits. It's pretty much second hand at best information you are recieving currently. From what you gather the caravaners have gone to Mistledale to recover as best they can.

As of yet no reward has been posted although that information my be up in Mistledale now.

The Legend of Fiddlin' Dingle Oakenheart - Part 5 (Dark Times Ahead)

Turnip Wine, Drown My Mind. This song from Dingle's dark period says it all.

With his beloved wife dead, Dingle's life was shattered. Lost in mourning young Dingle slipped into a depressed alcohol fueled haze. Music offered him no comfort anymore, without his sweet wife for succor Dingle drifted aimlessly on a sea of homemade turnip wine.

No longer did Dingle tend his fields letting them lie fallow. No longer did he play his fiddle with joy, they were songs of pain and sorrow. And soon even the music was gone as well when in a fit of shirtless drunken rage he threw his once prized cherrywood fiddle into the very river that took sweet Adele's life.

Falling to his knees and weeping Dingle clutched his bottle of turnip wine and drank. And as the river carried his fiddle away everything went dark.....

Let's see.... there's Scott (Lannister Lazenby), Bach (Nymagus), Chris Love (Gawain of Lathander) Nico (Felix of Lathander), Rob (Cutter), and Jory (Veil aka Little Dingle).

And I'm the Dungeonmaster! Bwaaaaa Haaaaaa Haaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Chris Smythe is down but yet to join due to work constraints.

Richard gets an honorable mention, he just lacks the cojones to commit to the real D&D fun.

And then there is Len who shall always have a place at my table should he wish it when he returns from university out east in the summer. Donde está la biblioteca!!!!

Hey all,

Hope that everyone is well.

I need to let everyone know that all that healing/curing of poisoning and lycanthropy has put us into major debt with my temple superiors.  We have been asked (well, I have been ordered basically) to obtain spider poison glands from a large nest of spiders in order to replenish local supplies of antitoxin.

Something fairly urgent, as there are only six doses in all of Shadowdale, and they are in my keeping for our trip against the spiders so that the temple can brew up dozens of more doses.

Cheers

PS -  I will likely see everyone around 7:15 or so on Wednesday after work.

What do we have in the way of party treasure, I need 20gp to swap the mw greatsword in for a masterwork falchion so I will have a slightly better chance at hitting.

I'm in for pizza
