I'll be demoing Star Wars Minis on Sunday from 10-2 and D&D Minis from 2-6. Both will be played throughout Sunday at the Game Knight tables. Warbands, maps, and dice provided.

I'll be giving away promo figures for both games while suppies last.

Good times.

SWM is fun and all, but I'll wait for DDM 2.0 as it sounds like the same types of rules just using D&D minis.

So....am I to assume that it will now be easier for me to mesh the two games together into some sort of giant supergame?

Excellent.........everything is transpiring according to my ultimate design...

Based on the 2.0 stat card we've seen there will still be quite a few differences.

Desert of Desolation Pre-release update.

The boosters are here, so I can breathe easier now.

The war hourse repaints arrived as well - a very nice horse of course of course.

Anyone wanting to pre-register can, that will confirm your spot and size of T-shirt. Just email me or post it here, and I'll put you in my little blue book.

Pre-orders for cases of DoD will receive 20% off, all other cases will only get 15% off. Price is going down on the new set to $14.99 to reflect our almighty Loonie (Fiendish Dire Half-Dragon Loonie!)

Put the 27th on your calender! Minis!!!!!!!!!!!

When do we have to have our preorders in? I definitely want one case, but I'm not sure about the second. I'd kinda like to see a full set list before I commit to a second case.

So, who's coming out to play minis with me tonight?

I should be signed up for the prerelease already. An XL t-shirt if I'm not.

Put me down for a case of DoD as well if I'm not already.

An unfortunate cut and paste mistake.  It says that, but the spot it says it in is the 27th.  My bad.

Okay, headed away from the interweb for a while and then on down to game Knight to run my D&D RPG demo. Big dungeon crawlin' fun to be had. Come on down, the more the merrier.

Get free dice while supplies last.

Have a good Friday everyone and if I don't see you tonight hopefully I'll see you tomorrow for League.

7 people out for League today. Richard leaped back into first place.

Current League Standings and those that can replace their commanders to follow soon. Don't forget we have a short turn around time for this league, next session this coming Thursday.

5 for Star Wars today. Stormtrooper Steve made his triumphant return and went 4-1 to go into first place.

Good times.

In other league news Rob was chosen as best theme, pulling him into a 3-3 tie with Bram for best theme warbands.

Jory, Chris V, Chris B, Rob, Paula, Norm, Denise, Andy, Nico, and Jay can all choose new commanders if they so wish. Rob and Paula have already chosen to pass.

Since the next session is this Thursday and a quick turn around the deadline for the change will be just before the next League session.

New League Thoughts

Under the heading of thinking about a future league should I be the one running it I'm thinking of going with this structure. Base it sort of on the Dreamblade Edge system awarding points to the players.

The main tournament would run 10-12 sessions.

Each win would give a player 2 points, each loss or tie including a bye would be worth 1 point. In addition the top place in each additional session would be awarded 8 points, 2nd place gets 4 points, 3rd and 4th earns 2 bonus points, and everyone else gets 1 bonus point.

I'm also thinking perhaps 2 bonus points will be awarded per session to a player using a strong theme band.

After the final regular session the player pool will be divided into two groups for a playoff round. The top 8 players in point totals would be in group A and compete for the top League prizes. The remaining players not in the top 8 will have their own consolation tournament to compete for runner up prizes.

I'm not sure exactly what the prize structure would be or the pricing. It's still in the rough draft phase but let me know if you'd be interested in this kind of tournament and I'll develop it a little more.

Anything that doesn't:

A) Force me to play the same warband over and over and over and over again, and

B) Penalize you for missing a session,

is fine with me.

Mike, i think you've got a typo in the league standings. Rob should probably have 70 pts? Or maybe 75? Either way, 65 puts him behind paula still.

8 points for 1st seems a little high.  The guy in the front shouldn't be able to get so far ahead no one can catc him, or it will hurt attendance/interest.  I like the idea of two groups for a championship though.

Perhaps a league with teams, either 2, 3 or 4.  Captains could be our core players, with members on the teams filled in with all available players.  Captains pick their players from the player pool each night, with the 4th place team captain picking first, and the 1st team captain picking 4th.  Each team could represent 1 of the four factions possibly.  Chris L could be Team Lawful Good for example.  Or mayby just give the teams cool names if alignments are to difficult to work logistically.  MJ could be captain of the Shadowdale Light Fellowship for example.  Maybe the teams need a theme, like creatures from Forgotten Realms, or Dragons, or magic users.

Well with that system the more points you have the better off you are but running away with first doesn't necessarily net you anything other than a good place in the finals.

Once the championship is set with the top 8 you still have to win the final three games to claim the top prize. Lose one game no top prize for you.

I'm also thinking to shake things up the finals will be a 2 booster sealed event. Perhaps the opening event as well.

The number of bonus points could be changed easily enough.

Teams wouldbe a fun idea but not to pratical to impliment given varied player availability from session to session.

Hmmm....I keep thinking....How about team good and team evil. Each player in the player pool must have a good and evil band when they come. If they get drafted for team good, they play their good team, and vice-versa.

Prizes for players on the winning team are broken down to a percentage of time each player plays on the winning team. So if I only play for the winning team one night, I get 1 share, if I play for 10 nights, I get 10 shares. If I take on the role of league chairperson, I will play ony if there is an odd number, so the teams will always be even (and I don't take a prize share) Team prizes can be doled out as gift certificates, possibly for minis in the case, or for general merchandise.

Scoring: Each win scored by players on a team gets the team 1 point. Team captains do not score points for their teams, only block points being scored by other teams.

Prizing: You show up, you get a draw ticket. Each game you win, you get another draw ticket. Each ticket is worth 1 prize at the end of the night, drawn randomly. So the 3-0 person has 4 tickets, while the 0-3 person has 1 ticket. Any ticket can be the first drawn to get the rare from a booster draft. Retail kits and booster drafts can be broken down for individual prizes, so first will get more stuff, but not necessary the big prize.

League prizing:
Option 1) We collect $1 extra for prizing. I match this with $1 from the store, to create a final prize pool. This money is broken down by percentage/attendance, and awarded as a credit for single minis (rares from the case, or commons/uncommons from the bin).

Option 2) We collect $1 extra for prizing, and it goes into the prize pool. As above, it gets broken down by percentage and awarded in the form of gift certificates for general merchandise.

I think Scott may be onto something here.  This sounds like it could be fun.  I definitely like the idea of incorporating teams into the league, and a draw based prize structure for the individual sessions certainly would keep the people who don't do so well coming out more often.Â

If you wanted to get more complex with it, you could have a number of smaller teams (~2-3 people) and have divisions of teams.

I also agree with the comment made below about penalizing people for not showing up.  This really hurts when you have to miss for a legitimate reason, like a family event.
