I will being a warband to beat my warband from last week.   

Boy, we sure do get alot of players out to our Thursday night events.  We need to get them out to the Saturday events so we can play full matches and not just 2 rounds.

I understand that people have lives and that can take over things and all that, believe me when I say that I have a very full life, but I still make the time to show to run events.  Just wanting to vent some as people keep asking for more events, but when no one shows to any of the event we have scheduled, why have any more?

14 players showed to the Utah Epic Open.  that was 5 more then the constructed event we held.  Thank you every one for attending!!  we did get 3 players from Provo area that came up that normally do not, and I was very glad they did.

I would like to thank everyone who worked on getting this event to happen and to Ahubb and zenthrus for the Trophies.

Not related to the Black Rose, but now that the Epic open is over we now need to start some planning for the Utah "Limited" Open.  Some have suggested that we run a Draft event where you bring any 2 boosters that you would like to or we could run it like a prerelease event.  I think that the idea of running it like the maxminis event at Gen Con would be a great thing (bring any 2 boosters)

I had such a good time at the Max Minis draft event that I would love to do this again.  So I second the idea of running a draft.

So who were the top placers that won trophies? Also what kind of prize support did everyone get? I know I always say that I don't like playing Epic much but I had fun with this event. Big events like our "Opens" are always fun and that is why I am really looking forward to doing the Utah Limited Open. I've actually been thinking about this and also preperation for the Limited qualifiers and Championship for a little while now and I have a few ideas. First, I think we should definately wait untill Blood War is out to hold the Limited Open since they are making it a set that should be especially good for sealed play and it will be the set used for the qualifiers and championship. So I was thinking somwhere between November - January would be a good time for the Open. I also think the Draft format is the most fun way to play DDM and the Maxminis Draft at Gen Con was the best event I attended while there. Now as far as practicing for all the big limited events that will be going on in the next few months I have some ideas that will allow us to play without going broke. The first idea is that when we purchase our cases or boosters when Blood War comes out, we can save at least a portion of unopened boosters (if not all of them) to use in Sealed practice tournaments. I will be willing to keep all of my boosters sealed to use and I can also lend them to players who either don't have that many boosters or are too excited to keep them sealed for a little while (trust me, I know how difficult that can be). The second idea can be used once we run out of sealed boosters. I know there are a few programs that can generate random sealed boosters of any set and they are pretty accurate as far as the slots go. So if someone has a laptop they can bring to tournaments then we can easily generate boosters for everyone and once you've built a warband from your pulls, you can just pull those pieces from your personal collection so you can represent your pieces correctly. I will also bring all my pieces so I can lend out whatever people need, so long as I have them. I've wondered if any of the stores like Black Rose would have a problem with us bringing in boosters to use for a sealed event instead of buying boosters from them to use but it wouldn't make much sense if they did have a problem with it. It's no different then opening up your boosteres at home and then bringing the pieces to use in a constructed tournament. But still, I will talk to them to make sure it won't be a problem. So hopefully we will be able to start playing some sealed games on thursdays at the Black Rose in the upcomming month, though I guess there's not too much need to start playing sealed more regularly untill after Blood War comes out. Anyway, sorry this was so long. I just had a lot of ideas that I wanted to get out and discuss with everybody. By the way, I don't want it to sound like I'm trying to just decide what should happen as far as tournaments in the next few months. These are just ideas that I hope will encourage people to come out and play and practice for all the big sealed events coming up without having to spend a ton of money. Obviously all ideas are welcome and I look forward to discussing them with our local community.

One last thing. I've heard some of our local players say they don't like to play 200 point constructed as much as other formats because they don't have enough of the good competitive pieces to make multiple strong warbands. So I just want to let everyone know that I would be more than happy to lend out any pieces that anybody might need as long as I have them. Feel free to ask me either in a post here, in an e-mail(legend_bob_marley@hotmail.com), or in person and I will respond quickly to help out if I can. I don't want to speak for Gerald but I kno he has lent me figures many times in the last two years or so that I've been playing, especially when I was new to the game and didn't have many pieces. It really sucks not being able to play competitive bands just because you don't want to fork out tons of money to buy the older hard to get minis to make your warband. In fact that's the biggest reason I never wanted to play Magic. Anyway, I obviously have way too much time on my hands. Rambe over.

I had fun at the tournie, even though being paired against Todd the first round. I got a $10 Gift certificate. Ended up 2-2 as for tournaments I will not be making any Thursday tournaments so hopefully we can get some people showing up for Saturdays tournaments. However I will not be making this Saturday, I plan on making the next one though. I think it could be a lot of fun to do another campagin if everyone wants to. I wonder if we could get some prize support from the Blackrose for it and even run it kind of like League Play at the Cons. So we could just start with a 50 point warband that follows all of the campaign rules (i.e. commander cost of 35 or under) and then have a bunch of random minis laid with corresponding numbers (1-20) and then the winner gets to roll twice and pick the mini that goes with either number he rolled and the other person rolls once and gets that mini. Then you can swap the your newly recruited mercenary into your warband as long as it stays under the total warband point cost.

Alternatively, we could just play it exactly like league play where everyone buys two boosters and makes a warband with that. Then we proceed with the above mentioned rolling for new miniatures system. Sure it would cost between $20 -$25 to get started (though hopefully Blackrose would be willing to give us a decent discount) but then that could easily last us for a couple months worth of play which would ultimately cost less than the weekly $5 entry fee. Plus that way everyone will always win a few miniatures at least and I don't think it would be too hard to convince Black Rose to still offer some sort of prize support for the winners. Any thoughts?

Great,  were are you moving from?  where are you going to?  will that be for the release and qualifier events or to our Thursday evening event?
