Good session last night.

A mysterious tower.... will it bring Lannister one step closer to recovering his precious sword or one step closer to being paralyzed by Ettercaps and rolling 75% natural 1s in combat......

Tune in next week to find out.

So once again a session ends in the middle of the boonies, no chance to get any new rumors or news.

As Gawain goes over the ettercap venom glands you harvested he figures that you will need to gather some more, seems as though much of the venom was drained into some poor hapless fellow....

But you have an old tower to explore, what will you find..... books for the wizards? Enchanted mule fodder? Dread wraiths? 17,320 copper pieces? A half eaten cheese sandwich? True love? Only time will tell.....

i so call the books and half eaten cheese sandwich. yummy century old half eaten cheese sammich, we all know it really started off as a bowl of oatmeal, and in the centuries became the sammich it is today.

So, our good buddy Len has returned from school out east and he's eager to get in on a little D&D action. Word is he's going to go halfling ranger, something you can surely use.

You know, the next town Lannister comes to he's going to hire a Ranger to help get his sword back. That fits nicely.

You might be better served putting your money toward a guard dog to make sure you aren't left alone and defenseless by some gnome while you sleep and have your pocked rifled through by sticky fingered goblins.

Hello,

Well, I enjoyed the session again.  Nice to see us all alove as well.

I agree that Lannister would be better to get the guard/attack dog.  Extra combat power for the party, and protection at night.

Looking forward to what is inside the mystery tower (or maybe not).

Cheers

Smack dab in the middle

Casey Flannery’s History

It was a cool day, that 6th of Flamerule in the Year of the Boot (1343), and quiet as events like this go. Paddy O’Rourke watched eagerly as the midwife attended to his beloved Kelly. Paddy was a strong man, having helped to clear the area around the village for years of both forest and goblin-kin had built a solid frame under his furrowed brow. But even with his background, Kelly was stronger.

Kelly had had a tough life. Her parents were killed in a goblin raid when she was but a few years old. She was cared for by the mistress of the town, to whom her father had been an advisor and herbalist. Being raised in comfort frustrated Kelly. Something in her felt that she should have been defending the city the day her parents fell, even though she was still a toddler. She intended to ensure that there would never again be a day that she couldn’t join the fight. In her early youth, Kelly was one of the first to train for the front ranks of the village’s militia. Sure, female Hin had served in the militia before, but from the rear as archers or logistics. Kelly was determined, and after besting many of the veterans in the militia, proved she was worthy.

One day, Kelly was patrolling through the woods when she heard a loud crash. She charged over to find the largest tree she had ever seen lying on its side. Fearing some monster had come to the neighbourhood; she drew her sword and prepared to meet it. From around the fallen tree came a very startled Paddy O’Rourke. He was startled both from the beauty of the Halfling staring at him, and the menacing nature of that stare! As soon as she realized that he was carrying an axe and breathing heavy from work, she pieced together what had happened to the tree and relaxed. She was as impressed with his work as he had been with his view. The next few years flew by quickly. Many times, Paddy would return from the woods to tell Kelly about the tracks he had found and they would alert the militia. Kelly would lead the charge and Paddy would sit home and worry. Then one day, Kelly had to stop.

She had woken up and taken ill. At first, the doctor was at a loss to explain why she was feeling bad. Then it came to him, she was with child! Paddy was exhilarated, Kelly was nonplussed. In the recesses of her mind, Kelly always wanted to have a child, but she was busy and needed to protect the town. She took to training the new recruits over the next few months. She made them hard. She was proud of her corps and ready to let go. Good thing, too, as she had grown so round she couldn’t buckle on her armour anymore!

So, the 6th of Flamerule and the warrior who had repulsed every external attack was lying prone to an internal one. The little being inside her seemed to be attacking ferociously. With a final push came screaming. Paddy was terrified at first but then realized he was hearing an extra voice. His wife had survived and his son was with them. At first, Paddy was concerned. He was pale of hair while his wife dark as midnight. The child bore thick, red hair. Oddly, his first instinct was that the gods had sent a sign rather than to accuse his beloved of impropriety. The midwife explained that sometimes the red hair can indeed be a sign of things to come – of change in the course of a family. Since both Kelly and Paddy’s families had been in the same village for countless generations, they both knew that this meant their little one would be leaving. They decided on Paddy’s grandfather’s name, Casey, to encompass the bravery that would be needed for such an adventure. They also chose to highlight Casey’s destiny by giving him the second name Flannery to forever commemorate his red hair.

As the years passed, it became clear that Casey was developing well. He had his father’s natural affinity for the woods and his mother’s daring and protective energy. While he was good with his mother’s sword, he excelled with his father’s bow. He was a true blend of the spirits of his two parents. He developed two large freckles, one on each cheek, earning him the nickname Breck from his friends, but indicating to those who know of such things that Casey would lead a balanced life overall, but that he would often stray in the moment. Some thought he was more elf than Halfling, the way he’d spend weeks at a time in the woods communing with nature and all her spoils.

In the Year of the Banner (136, things would change. Kelly’s son, now grown to a twenty-five year old adult, had become almost fully independent. While Kelly was well past a half century, she felt that she still had much to contribute to the defence of her town and rejoined the militia. Shortly afterward came a tragic day. Casey had set off on one of his usual trips to the woods. Paddy was likewise in the forest, gathering wood for the village. Casey heard an animal whimper in its death throws and knew that something was wrong. He stalked toward the animal and saw two Orcs begin to slaughter the deer. He froze, trying to think of what to do. Before he could decide whether to attack the Orcs or run to town, his father stumbled into the clearing. Paddy had been hit by some falling branches on one of the trees he had felled and was disoriented, not noticing the Orcs before him. Without hesitation, the larger of the two hefted a throwing axe and heaved it at Paddy. Fitting, almost, that a woodsman be slain by an axe. In response, with less than a breath having passed, Casey was up and firing. Three arrows had struck the killer of his dear father before the other had noticed the appearance of the Hin. Casey dropped his bow, unsheathed his sword and charged the remaining Orc. The creature had been so intent on his butchering that he was much too late in trying to defend himself. In the fray, Casey’s pale leather armour became so drenched in blood from the massacred Orc that it would forever be red!

Despair took over Casey. He sat and coddled the body of his father, taking solace in knowing that at least he had avenged the murder. After hours of prayer and tears, Casey took up his father upon his own shoulders, and carried him back to town for internment. All along the way, he was slowly forming it in his mind to rid the world of Orcs. Then he saw them. Lumbering around, almost clumsy with exertion in the pale light of the full moon, half men, half beast. Casey was ready to sprint to the village to warn them of these werewolves but then realized that they were coming from the village! Some bore wounds, but all were covered in blood. Casey knew that was the blood of his friends. He sat and waited for the beasts to go by.

Finally arriving home, Casey realized the true level of destruction that the fiends had wrought. While those two Orcs had killed his father, these beasts had levelled the village. He ran to his home and found his mother, body torn and lifeless. Though an adult, Casey was now an orphan. He dragged the bodies of his parents to the shrine in the centre of the village and began praying. After almost an hour, Casey heard a faint cry. He turned and found Maureen, the priestess, and ran to her. She shouldered him for a time, but then snapped him back to reality. She sent him off to the woods to gather certain herbs and roots that would be needed, a full night lay ahead of them. Through the nights and days that followed, Casey and Maureen worked the unenviable task of preparing an entire village for burial. Casey seemed stone faced, but eventually broke. When it came to preparing the bodies of his parents, he fell to his knees and cried torrents of tears. Maureen pushed Casey to continue as they had to be sure that no one from the village would pass on the evil disease of lycanthropy, though several villagers were not found. A cause Casey would keep close at heart and honour for life.

Their task done, Maureen and Casey simply stood at the edge of the village. While Maureen decided that she would head west, to the Sword Coast, Casey had a different path. For four years he would wander. First north, to the High Forest where he would spend time among the Elves. Then, sometimes following caravan routes, sometimes blazing his own trail, to the east. Always seeking a home, never finding one. He skirted the great desert and spent time in Cormyr. Now, finally tiring of the life of a solitary Hin on the run from nothing and to nothing, Casey finds himself in the Dalelands. While nothing will ever replace his lost family and friends, Casey knows now that to truly move on, he would need new friends, perhaps, some day, a new family.

All hail the mighty Green Rhino!

Another great session. Now I've got a goblin indentured servant/Lampbearer, and a watchling/Halfling sidekick. Unfortunately I need to replace my ass(es). Poor Bacon and Meatsheild. Your contribution to our endeavours will live on. Now who is going to carry home my new tapestries and Corellon Statue?

Ah...fourth level. I feel the strength from all this fighting surging within me. (bump strength up 1 point).

Lots of fun last Wednesday!!!
Breck's background was cool. Totally fit with last nights session!!!

Felix thinks the statue should stay where it is. Unless someone cannot prove ownership by lineage or paper after a while then we can take stuff. But then I guess stuff is missing now
...and it has been 2000 years...

if you can carry it back without mules...power to you!!

Hello,

Well, I have been trying to provide some leadership or guidance to this motley crew, but it really has not been working out.

I say the statue stays where it is.  Raising the ire of a deity by removing a statue sacred to him, from a room dedicated (as far as can be determined) as a chapel is not a good idea.

Removing the other items, as we have done, from the tower might be considered a transgression as well, but there we are on firmer ground.  We are using all of those items to further the fight against evil, and have elvish permission (Nymagus and Cutter) for the use.  We DO NOT have elvish permission to move the statue, and the general idea so far seems to be to rip the jewels out the eyes (desecrating the statue, and also lowering its value).

Where do we go from here?  NOt quite sure, but I might have to get Felix to use Detect Evil on the Gnome next time we get together to see where his intentions are headed.  His words are not sounding very "Good" to me at the present.

As to Lycanthropy, well, I am already in debt to my temple, so what is more debt.

This will likely mean more trips for spider venom or similar things.

Maybe I will get lucky somehow and manage to obtain Remove Disease.

More to think about.

Cheers

Perhaps some thought and discussion needs to go into how you will operate as a group, what your goals are and who will speak for you. Always a worthy topic for discussion and a good opportunity for roleplay.

Actually I was thinking of doing some sort of character development.
Battling my alcoholism and drunken misbehavoiur.

At some point I might be walking a fine line until it is blurry or something.
But should we really having much role-play in the middle of the tower

No love for Little Dingle and his thieving ways it seems. Ironic in a way considering his stance on bandits.

Should be an interesting session this week, you've only begun to get to the interesting parts of the tower......

So, what's everyone feeling for dinner. A litle pizza action?

I like Gawains leadership....I just like it better when it's not around! (not sarcasm, just an obscure movie reference)

Lannister thinks leaving a "Sacred Statue" in this abandoned overgrown monster infested tower is only greater sacrelige than taking it and returning it to the good elves. So really, that is the right thing to do. Lannister does want to point out to those elves the high costs of artifact retreival (operating expenses, healing potions, weapon depreciation, mule replacement, and so on). The elves aren't an ungrateful bunch, so I'm sure we can agree on a moderate gold peice re-imbursement amount. And if a certain gnome took the eyes, that re-imursement amount would be less now wouldn't it?

And as to putting the rogue in charge of finances, this rogue is already trying to keep us fiscally sound. We need that return on our adventuring investment after all. Gold statues benefit us all. They help us buy Pizzas! (Make mine a bacon and mule!)

I'm pretty sure we could secure the building and then mention the statue and tower itself to the nearest Elven enclave. If they would like to get it themselves, they could, or we could return to get it for them. Either way, if they felt like reimbursing us for our troubles, it would be up to them. That's my vote.

See now that sounds like a decent idea Rhino, but there is still more to explore in the tower and a great weapon to save the elves to be found.
