I like the fantasy style of D&D but with so many sets already out, I'm afraid I can't afford all of them. Miniatures games get expensive. In my opinion Star Wars miniatures is a less complicated game to play. Star Wars has 60 figs. per set unlike D&D which has I think 80. Very Rares aren't that hard to come by. I buy cases and such and you're garanteed 4 Very Vares. Very Rares are 1 in every 3 packs. People sometimes cherry pick for the large fat figures because the booster is heavier.(Jabba the Hutt, Sandtrooper on Dewback, and Wampa from Rebel Storm) People didn't cherry pick as much from CLone Strike because the heavy figs are rares. I like the skirmish game picking characters that work together from the same factions. If no one in your area plays Star Wars Minis try to get Vassal and download Star Wars Miniatures. I might go to my first tournament April 23rd! Vassal is very fun for Minis if there aren't any tournaments. A game lasts around an hour at best depending on how many points you are using.

I just recently played my first few SWM skirmishes. At are bar called the Cantina in tokyo actually.

The game played a lot faster than the DDM game. Overall I prefer the variety of the DDM game and the follower/commander tactics but for a fast fun game SWM is better. Especially if you are playing with people who are new to miniature gaming.

SWM has easier rules and IMHO is a more fun game for skirmishers.

I like DDM better because they are used in my RPG.

But for skirmish SWM beats DDM they have cooler tiles and ultimate mission books and its just more fun.

And for the record DDM is also 60 per set like SWM...plus there are 8 minis in a booster...plus VR doesnt exist.

I see Star Wars minis as D&D lite. In the SW game you don't worry about having to be in commmand over much or commander ratings at all. There are very few special abilities and everyone for the most part has the same speed. The maps are pre-printed so there's no additional stratagy with tile placement and you don't have to worry about morale or rallying.

SW is a fun game with very fast play. D&D is a fun game with slower play and more stratagy and options involved. I play both. :)

I think they both have their ups and downs. And for the record-record, one set of DDM was 80 figs, one was 72 figs(with 9 figs per booster), and the other four were 60 figs. :P

Well, one side of the map is pre-printed, the other side is blank and the starters come with tiles, so there is that strategy, if you want it.

In DCI sanctioned tournaments you can't use the blank side or the tiles for Star Wars minis so there really isn't that stratagy.

I do like the Pre-generated maps for SW. The Tile system for DDM always annoyed me. I'd much rather have a varity of maps to pick and chose from.

Star Wars Miniatures plays in a similar fashion to D&D Minis, but is a bit more streamlined to accomodate fast paced firefights. The Rare/Very Rare system isn't nearly as bad as some people claim.

The minis themselves look superb in Star Wars, and the new set looks to put the previous two to shame.

If you are restricting yourself to DCI tournaments only, that is the case. But if you play outside DCI, yes there is that strategy.
