| It will probably be awhile. The previews for the last set didn't start coming out until about 2 months before the set hit the stands.
Of course I'm still waiting for my RoTS boosters and it is driving me crazy. | | Robert Rosehart Champion of the pixie

| | It's on the tip of my toungue... Well I understand it's suposed to be a huge set on par with Giants of Legend. We should be seeing one of those Hoth speeders(to take down the AT-AT) and hopefully a Rancor. | | Pathetic Earthlings. | | Actually Rob Watkins said the Snowspeeder would be in the next huge set. They didn't think about adding it until they thought of the AT-AT. If you bought the RotS starter they mention the Rancor as a huge and also mention future factions. Such as the Old Republic and the Sith. Don't forget Universe is to have Rebellion, Republic, New Republic, Fringe, Imperial,Separatists, and the Vong all in this set. We also know the set will still contain 60 minis with 10 being huges. I would expect about 20 minis going to the new factions and the other 30 being scattered about(but focusing more on Rebels and Imps). | | Champion of Jarlaxle Sets: Star Wars Year one complete,44/60 Champions of the Force,0/60 Bounty Hunters | |

I forgot some of that stuff. Interesting that there are only 60 figures total. I guess we'll have to wait a while to see how the next huge DDM set is done.
Anyone want to tell me about the Vong? I'm guessing they are EU, but beyond that I'm lost. | | H/W List Successful trades (94) Trades in progress (3): Van Hoo III, Slapdragon, Lance

| | I may be off a day or so but the release date is somewhere around August 17. As far as I know that will be the last set until next year. | My guess would be Augut 5th, becuase it would hold with the patern of SW releases, all for the First Friday of the month, and D&D goes for the Middle of the month, the ATAT slated for the 11th breaks that so far, but i would not be suprissed if it got changed.
As for Minis in it we Know
ATST is confirmed (orginally a tile in UM:RS)
I would also expect the Acklay, and Reek from the UM:CS book
And would not be suprised if the Landspeeder in the UM:RS got made into a mini too.

I don't know those with the Rancor would be 5 of 10. We would almost have to get a Tusken on Bantha. Also we would have to hopefully get 1 huge for every faction. With your guesses that would leave 5 spots for New Republic,Vong,Rebels(Landspeeder could be fringe)Separatists, and Republic. | | Champion of Jarlaxle Sets: Star Wars Year one complete,44/60 Champions of the Force,0/60 Bounty Hunters

| Well, Rebels aren't doing too well... New versions of heroes and now commandos (or were they new republic soldiers? Is the faction New Republic or NJO?), but no huges. X1? Probably not rebel - New Republic I guess, if I remember right imps never actually got their hands on them. So I guess there's no huges for rebels, unless you want to use fringe creatures.
IMO 4 huge fringes are too much. 3 would have been ok, and fringe speeder etc. would have been great as one of them. I don't need arena beasts [:(] I don't think they are so Star Wars -specific like Rancor. | | Vindicated AtG Called shot: 2nd Huge Red Dragon My collected trade reference links Star Wars tactical combat -project My modelling/terrain pages Suomen miniatyyrikeräilijät / Miniature collectors of Finland

I FEEL the same way. But I think I only feel that way because I've "known" the Rancor for years. His role in Return was really no different than that of the arena beasts in Attack.
He's still the king though. | | "We can't stop here...This Is Bat country!"

| Yeah...the 3 Areana Beasts had the EXACT same role that Rancor had.
Its just your childhood memories that is making it more important.
I tend to agree with you because Im 30...but Im thinking the Acklay will probably be the coolest looking huge in the set. | | Champion of the Skulk Vindicated Champion of the Twig Blight

I do not agree that being the only reason for Rancor to be more 'Star Wars'. Rancors are everywhere. There are dozens of comics, games and others where we see rancors. I don't know if there has been Ep2 arena beasts anywhere out of movie?
That's true, but my take on it would be that that is only because there hasn't been as much time for the arena beasts to begin to appear elsewhere. The rancor has had the seniority to appear in all of these media, while the arena beasts have existed only for a relatively short amount of time.
The more I think about it, the more I think it may be neccesary to see one of these critters in my Rpg. | | "We can't stop here...This Is Bat country!"

| Nexu were in an Infinities -Return of the Jedi- Comic, in oddly of all places Jabba's palace it was the beast (i think a pack actually) that people got thrown too, and if i remember right another recent comic had them as well.
I think a Reek Showed up again in another Republic comic some time last year (maybe with another Nexu) on Nar Shadda in pit fits

| Yeah, I began to think that after my post too. So there has been few appearances of those beasts in comics, and there probably will be more.
One more thing that might affect the popularity: Rancor was introduced alone, but there were three different arena beasts revealed at the same time.
Rancor must be everybody's favourite beast in Star Wars? Banthas are almost as popular, many like Krayt (although it's mostly EU), Dianogas appear rarely as well as swamp beasts of Dagobah. Yeti and Taun-Taun are tied to arctic environement, so nobody thinks that much of them. Dewbacks, while nice, aren't seen much either.
There are other prequel beasts too... Asteroid worm is just so different scale, mynocks probably can't be described as beasts. Oh, Rontos and other Tatooine working animals arent's seen too widely either.
I don't know if it has been a way to explain things or a reason created because of their popularity, but Rancors and Banthas, which are probably the most famous beasts/creatures in SW universe, are explained to be found everywhere [:)] Rancors are smuggled to be personal beasts (Like Jabba did) and Banthas are just so adaptable. | | Vindicated AtG Called shot: 2nd Huge Red Dragon My collected trade reference links Star Wars tactical combat -project My modelling/terrain pages Suomen miniatyyrikeräilijät / Miniature collectors of Finland

| Actually....the Rancor is unique...sort of.
A ship crashed on Taooine and among the cargo that survived was the rancor. Jabba took it as his personal pet. The creature was famous throughout the galaxy because no one knew where it came from.
It wasnt until many years later when they were discovered on the planet Dathomir that anyone saw another rancor.
At least thats according to the old West End Games RPG and some novels. :) | | Champion of the Skulk Vindicated Champion of the Twig Blight

| To make matters worse, Dathomir was also home to the witches of Dathomir, force witches, very nasty.
So in Universe we get a huge Rancor, next huge set, Force Witch mounted on Rancor? (Never gonna happen, but just imagine if it did. Ick!) | | "We can't stop here...This Is Bat country!"

Some more figures based on the RPG's character classes would be nice too, an Force Adept or two ... a Darkside Marauder with creepy facial tattoos. [:D] | | Pathetic Earthlings. I would like to see some non-iconic dark side/jedi figures like a marauder. They'd look good, be useful for rpg, and hopefully not unique too. | | "We can't stop here...This Is Bat country!"

Want non Unique Darksiders or Jedi? Mod DDM minis- The Renegade Warlock looks awesome with a Redlightsaber replacing his spear ΖD] I got quite a few extra Guardians/Acolytes just for parts...

i've been entertaining these notions believe me. I'd love to see a booster with nothing but lightsabers i could add to any figure I like.

A nice, but extreme conversion of the Knight, that I saw involved some arm postioning and a head swap with an Ithorian [:0]
