| | 09/02/2005 10:13 AM | Alert | I really hope to god they make the Sith and Old Republic somehow playable with some of the other factions. The faction-glut is starting to get ridiculous. This last set alone (Universe) introduced two factions that have a pathetic number of units each - basically every single New Republic or Vong army is forced to more or less look the same. If they introduce 2, or possibly even 3 more factions the same way in Champions of the Force, it will severely impact my interest in the game. It is no fun being forced to run the same 4 units together continually simply because Wizards decided to put out a half-baked faction.
Enough is enough - stop with all the faction splitting, Wizards!

Seriously doubt this will happen. Most likely they will suggest that people who want to "house rule" it. But I doubt you will ever see this in a constructed Tournament or League.

Well, that is the hazard of not having an entire to yourself as Imperial/Rebellion had in Rebel Storm and Separatists/Republic in Clone Strike (and pretty much RotS).
But I suspect Champions of the Force will bring much "NJO" support to New Republic. I see it as being a faction even more Jedi heavy than Republic (and heck the New Republic grunts are already better than Republic).
And Vong- well, I only see a few more figures being released for them, but you never know. And as for "[every single]Vong army is forced to more or less look the same", every Nom Amor squad is a Vong squad, and I have seen a lot of variation in that...

But I'd also like to see more critters. I know there is not a huge wealth of them in the SW universe to draw on, but I crave non-humanoid figs for rpg. Krayt Dragon anyone? For those wanting Womp Rats to use as Dire Rats, you're going to want something different -- Dire Rats are "small" creatures, but if you recall from A New Hope, Luke says "I used to bullseye Womp Rats back home in my T-16; they're not much bigger than two meters." A 2-meter long creature is LARGE in terms of skirmish size.

On the other hand the Womp Rat is a desert creature so the black fur of the Dire Rat might be inappropriate, unless the Womp Rat is also a nocturnal creature. | | Powergamers of the World, Unite! | | 09/28/2005 9:43 AM | Alert | | April the last anyone heard. I guess Wizards didn't expect SWM to do this well. Universe was supposed to be it and after sales came they decided to go farther. Lucas wanted RotS to hit the same time as everything else. So it put a huge strain on the production of the minis. The good news is they have said in the Uncon chat that they have idea's for the next few years. That doesn't count the Star Wars Starship game coming out at the end of next year. | | Champion of Jarlaxle Sets: Star Wars Year one complete,44/60 Champions of the Force,0/60 Bounty Hunters

| | 10/06/2005 10:49 AM | Alert | | I wouldn't mind if they give us two at a time. As for abilities I'd go with a commander(of course), sniper, demolishionist, and lastly a medic. I can't see giving one the hacker stuff. He'd just be a human R2. The commander effect could either be for commandos(as we have some in fringe) or something just limited to those four. Also maybe giving them rapport so they can squezze a couple clones with them when you make them as your squad. | | Champion of Jarlaxle Sets: Star Wars Year one complete,44/60 Champions of the Force,0/60 Bounty Hunters | |

| | 10/06/2005 1:33 PM | Alert | | I was thinking that, for Scorch at least, either grenades or missiles would be a necessity. For Sev, it'd be accurate shot, and I think that Fixer -would- need override in addition to whatever else he had. For 38, it'd be a commander effect (probably one that gives the four some bonus when they're either working together or within six of each other) and probably double attack, though double attack may be suitable for all of them to represent the DC-17-M blasters that they use throughout. As for the commander effect... having it replicate the door breach maneuver that was so popular in the game would be kind of cool, though you could already do a basic job of that under the rules as written. | | Completed Trades: gausse, kestrel.ca, | |

| | 10/13/2005 12:06 PM | Alert | I just finished reading Republic Commando: Hard Contact. This after saying that I wouldn't buy it, reading the first twenty-four pages in B&N and then buying it and reading it in one night, one sitting. It's extremely well-written, and it's an enticing read... look at the author's qualifications on the inside back cover and you'll see why- she's a combat author who's served in the military...
As for more Republic this set... at this point, I'll be entering a homicidal frenzy if I don't get at least one of either Delta or Omega squad. | | Completed Trades: gausse, kestrel.ca,

Well, 55. But Fringe has the most with 72. My quick count is: Fringe 71 Republic 55 Separatist 47 Imperial 35 Rebellion 29 New Republic 5 Vong 4
If you toss out Fringe, and group by Era, things do look more balanced.
quote: for the love of god wizards dont give us more Republic, actually give Old Republic and New Republic a chance to be decent
Well, deity adoration aside, we are getting more Republic. And really, it shouldn't be a surprise. The Republic and the fall of the Republic is the current playground. There were just 3 movies about it, the majority of the current novels are about it etc.
That said, I think WotC is beginning to have the same problem Wizkids had/has with Mechwarrior- too many factions for a single set. If everyone gets an "equal" share, new factions get too diluted and need another set or two to become viable. Sadly each set is a Zero-Sum situation- for every piece that goes to one faction, another faction gets shorted...
