Well, then you guys need to post in this forum more often! This is the first time I've heard a description of the contents of the boosters/starters, and in particular the contents of the Starter.
If you've heard anything else, POST AWAY!

| No pic's that I've heard of. I expect we will see some preview figures at Gen Con.
Release date is in November (per the blurb up above...).

| I found this via google, not much but a little. I doubt official pictures of the ship exist, outside of the mini and concept drawings at WotC, and LFL.
Viscount-class Star Dreadnought An enormous battleship designed shortly before the Yuuzhan Vong invasion. Few operational examples existed and their production run may have been halted or delayed in favor of a greater number of lesser warships. As the Viscount is over twice the size of the Mediator, the Viscount-class ships were the Mon Calamari's first attempt at building a large capital ship that could compete with an Executor-class Super Star Destroyer. The classification name for this class of vessel is "Star Defender", perhaps intended as an opposite to the implications of "Star Destroyer".

But the pic says Home One... It looks good, but I think it's just taken from an angle it's not recognized well. I posted a pic in another thread that was supposedly Defender, not very pretty [:(]

I'd say there is a chance that we will see the contents of "a" starter. After all, we know that figures are finished well in advance, they GenCon is THE time to showcase new product. So, in the case, the Executor and viscount, and a few fighters. THat's my guess.

| Maybe. With the start of a "new" product, they show a lot (ala DDM Harbinber, and Dreamblade, and SWM RS, etc). If they feel that this is really a new game, they will pump the previews. If they see it as an extention of the SWM game, then maybe not..

| I'm just too exited about this game - I just hope that the rarities or quality won't let us down... Generally I think that the quality will be good in the game's first set - first sets are always something that will be given lots of attention. I just mean that if boosters cost $20, there needs to be something fancy in them as they are a lot smaller and generally simplier to paint.
What kind of scenarios do you think we'll see? Shall we see Ultimate missions or more generic scenario -book? How about standard scenarios, in addition to most obvious kill'em all scenarios? (unless this game has heavy influence from AAM)
Assault scenario from AAM is great; Escort/protection -scenarios would also be fine (buy unarmed troops some time to escape), as well as death-star scenario. Normal head-to-head -scenario doesn't often work too well for Rebels vs. Empire conflicts - maybe this will be represented by some special effect cards(or maybe just scenarios), allowing special victory conditions? Or then they are just represented by strong heroes.
How about environment (maybe we can't talk about terrain here?) Asteroids for sure. Maybe space stations/docks/fortifications, gas clouds (with different effects), dust clouds. I don't have slightest idea what's the scale so it's hard to say if planet/moon surfaces (with gravity effects) are present. Death star might also be more of an element at the edge of a map.
We might also get surface skirmishes - maybe some ground units are also added, turrets /at-at's and such? I'd love that! [:D] This would actually make possible hoth -like scenarios - Starships would be on the same map than ground units, but this should use relative distances. 3 height levels would be enough here - surface, atmosphere and orbit. Walkers would advance towards rebels base while troops try to delay them and also flee themselves when the base itself has been evacuated. Fighter groups could escort transport ships and ion cannon would be able to fire to the orbit as well as capital ships could shoot units at the ground if shield generator is not active...
Do you think we'll get non-combat ships? Of course quite about all Star Wars ships have some kind of weaponry [:)] So this kind of ships would work well as screeners. I'd wait for Bulk freighter and rebel transport at least. And several small freighters.
And how do I hope that there's only one rare -slot, which is for single crafts piloted by named heroes... And normal fighters would be presented in groups of fighters. | | Vindicated AtG Called shot: 2nd Huge Red Dragon My collected trade reference links Star Wars tactical combat -project My modelling/terrain pages Suomen miniatyyrikeräilijät / Miniature collectors of Finland

| | I'm not sure how I feel about this set in terms of gaming. I'll have to see how the mechanics are layed out. Something about space vehicles on a 2d map seems bland. I could be way off base though, and I'm sure to find out as I'll have to buy at least a starter. My guess is that, like SWM this will be more of a collector thing, than a game investment. | | "Call no man happy til he is dead" -E Cobham Brewer | |

SWM isn't a game investment? News to me.
Regardless of the game mechanics, I am going to pick this up- You can always use the figures under a different rule set... even one set up to do 3D.

| Too late - too late alas!
I could really use the Super Star Destroyer for my RPG campaign, but it's going to be over and done with way before November. If there hadn't been that huge gap after Universe it would have come out early enough to be of some use to me. Sad thing about SWM is that with the RPG line dying (and having massive problems in the first place, it must be said), the minis line has lost a fairly big potential customer base. I'll be getting rid of pretty much all my collection after my capaign finishes, and just keeping a Vader and a Yoda to sit on top of my monitor... | | My Have/Want list: http://www.maxminis.com/hw_list.asp?user=Humble%20Minion Trade reference thread: http://www.maxminis.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=12743

Don't give up on the rpg yet. We are still getting regular support from Wizards. Also the two force based references are being reprinted in June. So if those sell well the rpg might well catch a second wind. | | Evil triumphs when good men fail their morale saves.

| News from Con, by Fiddy @wotc (&few others)
quote:
Starships is 60 mini set. They planned the set as a stand-alone item, but if it does particularly well they may do another set later. 2 gargantuan (in the starter), 10 huge (in boosters), 7 large, the rest medium. 5-10% EU (depending how you count EU). There will be a difference between 'X-Wing' and 'X-Wing with Luke Skywalker'. 2-D combat, but you can pass through ships and they don't provide cover to each other (I may be slightly off on this). There is facing. There are rules for capital ships targeting fighters and vice versa.
