| Can someone give me a history lesson on the current star wars universe. after the fall of the empire what is currently going on with major characters. im thinking of picking up betrayal . i know a little bit about the vong and some other characters but i have some questions? some could be spoilers for those not in the know
1. thrawns dead. just double checking?
2. where are the vhong? are they still the major bad guys? did they have a past interaction with the old republic before the days of the jedi council
3. chewbacca 100% dead?
4.other than the typical core of characters such as luke,han and others do we see the other lessor known characters such bounty hunters such as bossk,dengar etc,ewoks?, .
5. is bobba fett alive and is he still a bounty hunter.
6. now that the second trilogy is done will we get to hear the whole tale from artoos perspective and has he used his jetpacks again
7. what are other major badguys/good guys one should be familiar with if jumping into the new series of books
8. newly discovered force abilites not covered in the movies?
9. does ben or yoda or even anakin still contact luke?
10 what to look for such as . they hinted so and so character could actually be a spy

Yes, Thrawn is dead.

Vong are living on Sonoma Zekot, the living planet and have only been mentioned in the Dark Nest Trilogy. Not sure about the new book yet.

Yes. A lot are in each book. A lot more focus on the "younger" heroes (Jacen, Jaina, friends, etc) as well.

Yes and yes. He revived the Mandalorians.

In the Dark Nest Trilogy Luke sees some recordings of R2s and finds out about Padme, Anakin, etc. No jetpacks yet.
7. what are other major badguys/good guys one should be familiar with if jumping into the new series of books
They are starting fresh in Betrayal. They ALWAYS reference past books but you usually learn all you need quickly.
8. newly discovered force abilites not covered in the movies?
Most are normal BUT Luke's Jedi are learning new ways to use the Force. Luke is now thinking that it was a bad move and the Dark Side being sneaky but Jacen feels otherwise. They are just touching on it. It was introduced in the New Jedi Order and expanded, slightly, in the Dark Nest Trilogy. If you've read the New Jedi Order you are only 3 books behind.
9. does ben or yoda or even anakin still contact luke?
No. Apparently they can only do that for a short time before fading fully into the force. In one of the novels one of the three came ot Luke and told him as much and said that he couldn't come back.

| He didnt mean "revive" quite so litterally. :)
The Mandalorians were finally whiped out a few years before the preqel movies started. Coincidentally it was Jedi Master Dooku who lead the attack that took out the last big group of them. Its was Jango Fett's platoon that Dooku and the jedi defeated, but he survived.
Jango Fett was pretty much the last of the Mandalorians.
He trianed Boba in their ways and years later Boba started training others...So the new generation of Mandalorians live again.

| There is a large soft cover book.
Its called "The NEW Essential Star Wars Chronology"
I couldldnt suggest more strongly that you pick this up.
If you want a history lession this is where to find it. Its a Star Wars history book. It summerizes pretty much everything that happened in comics, novels, games ect.
It is up to date to the point of the Dark Nest Trilogy.
It is the NEW chonology because the old one is...well...old. The New Jedi Order, the Knights of the Old Republic games, and Episode II and III arent in it...So dont get that one :)
PLEASE consider picking this up. You will NOT be sorry.

| On the bounty hunter question, I believe Bossk is dead. He was made into a purse, I believe it was mentioned in the Essential Guide to Aliens.
I think Anakin Solo is dead as well. | |
