OK, I've decided to give SWM minis a try, and am looking to build my first warband. Since I'm starting with CotF minis (both from boosters and some singles ordered off EBay), I went with building a 100 point Old Republic squad. Here's what I came up with:

Jedi Counselor
Jedi Guardian
Jedi Sentinel
Old Republic Commander
Old Republic Soldier x3

Any advice from the pros?

Thanks.
Eric

Well old republic is a simply faction now, is not really strong because is begining, you strong piece there would be the jedi guardian that is not really good in combat alone.

Since COTF comes i love this faction but for now is not really good for himself, even getting Bastila is not enough yet.

But since you are starting try it in some games to see how it works for you. And as a advice use the jedi to receive most of the shoots because they have higher AC and more HP, meanwhile your troops double shoot al times you can.

Yeah just try to hang back with your troopers behind cover and fire at your enemy's support figures first... your troopers don't have that great of an attack bonus, and with so few of them, combining fire is less practical than going for the double attack...

The Jedi Sentinel can shoot, is great for opening doors and with Stealth can get really close to the enemy without being picked on. Use her to open up LOS for your troopers and maybe get a few pot shots in before your opponent closes with you...

The Jedi Consular can be your surprise weapon, using Force Stun to hold your opponent's biggest threat in place to either shoot at some more or surround with your Jedi...

The Jedi Guardian is your best melee fighter. You want to keep her as healthy as possible as she moves in, so cover is gold for her. The Jedi really complement each other well. The Sentinel can open doors for the Guardian and the Consular can stun potentially killer opponents like Vader Jedi Hunter and let the Guardian get in some attacks unmolested...

Watch Out For:
Vader, Jedi Hunter... take out his meager support quickly and realize that it will take a concentrated effort (stuns, letting him come to you, lucky shots from the troopers etc) to take him down

Thrawn... he can negate your force powers and will be well protected by a group of well entrenched troopers. cover and blocked LOS is your friend as you try to close with him

obviously there are others... but the best advice is to get out there and get playing and see what happens! Happy Gaming!

To be honest i dont think old republic is a very good faction. There is only one big point mini so you have to fill your squad up with weaker minis that get killed easily. The best squads now are at-st/ imp officer and general windu/mass squads.

I don't see that as a disadvantage, particularly not with the quality of the OR Jedi. If you have a single 'big' mini, it is easier to neutralize via Force Stun, Doors etc.

The squad presented has a variety of abilities and isn't crippled by the loss of a particular character.

Really? Not Thrawn squads? Okay...

Thank you for the advice so far.

Are there any minis you would recommend adding to the mix? I would like to keep a Jedi-themed warband (did I mention that i really really like Jedi?). I would prefer to do something on the cheaper end (some commons/uncommons) that I can easily get in singles.

Thanks.

I would say take out some troopers, and put another sentinel in. If you're going to stay back and shoot, then you have her. If anybaody bases her she has her lightsaber. She is also very useful in blowing apart doors and getting in close to the enemy, with stealth. One of my favorite uncommon minis is the chagrian mercenary commander, because of his +20 damage on crits, if you want too put him in.
