True believers, I must ask for your opinion of this Separatist squad I constructed.

1xGeneral Grievous Supreme Commander
1xGeonosian Overseer
1xSuper Battle Droid Commander
2xSuper Battle Droids
Total points:98

Please comment if you wish.

My commentary is that...

1) you have too many commanders and too few followers

2) there are redundant commander effects (GGSC and GO are the same CE, so only one really works)

3) GGSC is not a good investment in this build... he eats up way too many points for the job you expect him to do, and in 100 points, total squad synergy is key

may I suggest...

Battle Droid Officer
Geonosian Overseer
Super Battle Droid Commander
Super Battle Droid x5
Ungnaught Demolitionist x2

you still get double attacking SBDs with Careful Shot and Double Attack and a nice bonus from the BDO... plus you have some door opening midgets and a much better activation count

Happy Gaming!

The problem with your suggestions, gratifying they may be, is that I want a General Grievous. That's my entire reasoning of even building the Separatist squad.

General Grievious is really nice because he is a commander and can shoot! but Grievious supreme commander is really good too!

Sorry if I came off wrong there...

Yeah, GGSC can work in 100 point... again I must apologize if my tone came out all wrong... I was just concerned that you were trying to do too much with him... but I digress...

how to build a squad around GGSC in 100 points that really shows off how great a focal point he can be...

Well he's got a great commander effect... no need for the overseer with the much more durable general sround! So let's try giving him quality shooters as followers and some support to keep him fighting when the enemy gets up close!

General Grievous Supreme Commander
Crab Droid x2
r5 astro droid
ugnaught demo

or if you want more shooters you could also...

General Grievous Supreme Commander
Super Battle Droid x4
Battle Droid Officer
and 8 pts of droids, ugnaughts or even an r5

I hope I have been more helpful this time!

Oh, not at all. I was merely trying to state my liking of General Grievous. I did not mean to sound so exasperated. Sorry for any inconvience on my part.

Woot! 100th post!

Anyhoo... as is the case for most SWM, whatever you can do in 100 points you can do EVEN MORE OF in 200! But keeping the General in 100 may be an unexpected move and throw your opponents off. Generally I find that 100 points in my area degenerates into HAL or Vader/Bane and the dancing ugnaughts... 'grats on using other strategies!

I think it is far more satisfying to see someone build a squad with I dunno synergy and a balance of point allocation...

Overall I think you've got a great handle on how figs should work together and I wish you nothing but success against people who play the "L337 Squad of the Week"... Do you play competitively, or more with your friends? (or both?[:)])

I like it.
And if taken to 200, Wat can come in so you have better repair and Droid Mark.
Maybe a Viper...

This 150 army worked well for me.

General Grevious
Crab Droid X 3
Battle Droid Officer
Super Battle Droid Commander
Security Battle Droid
Bodyguard Droid

Many think that this Grevious is obsolete, but with this army, I'm glad to have given up the +4 Attack to my Crab Droids in exchange for being able to shoot twice at +12 Attack for 20 Damage each. The Crab Droid already have a high attack due to other effects, so why not use this Grevious? And 80 Hit Points is really good too.

Nice looking squad! Was the Security Battle Droid a better coice then 2 basic Battle Droids? What squads did you face with it?

I like that the Security Battle Droid has Cunning Attack and a slightly higher base Attack value. Combining Fire with 2 Battle Droids has about the same Attack value, but doesn't hit for 20 Damage against unactivated minis.

So far, I've only faced a Vong squad (Thud Bug didn't work so well against me), and a General Windu/Aurra Sing/Sev/R2-D2 squad that wasn't played as well as it could've been play the guy. I'll try this squad against a few more things in another couple of weeks.

Good call then. All you'd get for maybe one round is an extra activation which really wouldn't be worth saving to the last anyway. I'll have to take another look at the Security Battle Droid.

That Republic squad you faced sounded like ugh! I think he was onto some good ideas, but man he was really all over the place!

Looking forward to hearing about your (or anybody's for that matter) trials and tribulations with what I consider to be the best incarnation for the General.

I find it difficult to make a good 100pt army, probably because i'm too used to 200pts. If you check DCI rankings and ratings on the last page, you will see my name at the bottom! know why? because ~I have recently started playing theamed teams. I think maybe i should start trying to win instead of having teams from some of my favorite scenes.

I've only played 100pt because the area I play around only permits it, I believe. I would also like to ask about Thrawn, even though he isn't centered around the topic. What kind of squad would one create with Thrawn with 150-200pts?

although i don't know the stats for this team, it seems that 3 figures (maybe 4) are relyed on too mutch, vader, Rancor and the night sister witch (maybe thrawn for the commander effect)

Get rid of Vader, and some of the support pieces to make room for a Reek, a Medical Droid, and some more Sithwitches.

Charge the Reek, with a witch following, into battle. 200 Hit Points sucks up a lot of damage, so he'll make it across the map just fine. Just before the Reek dies, use Grand Admiral Thrawn to swap him with the Rancor. Let Rancor do his thing while you heal the Reek, then swap again as necessary.

No it's something I threw together mostly for fun. It realy takes atvantage of Mas Amedda booming voice ability. Looking at Thrawn's CFX I do recomend switching Vader out for a Reek, I was originaly counting on switching Vader and the Rancor. Ζ)]

I've started having an amazing loosing streak i've decided to take all of my minis and create teams, I am then going to have a tournament with the teams, which ever team wins will then be challenged by other teams i will make, eventually if this team defeats them all then they will progress onto the tournements at my lgs. so far i have a republic and imperial team that are doing quite well so far but i think it will be interesting to see what happens when they eventually face off.

From mini manager, I found Noghri ineffective with Thrawn, seeing how more room can be used for Sith witches. Here is what I think the Thrawn build should look like.

Grand Admiral Thrawn
3xNexu
2xNightsister Sith witch
1xMas Amedda
2xMedic Droid
1xGran Raider

Total points/150
