Does Han Solo in Stormtrooper Armor’s CE grant Charging *Assault* as well as Charging Fire?

It’s been my understanding that Charging Assault was limited to attacks on adjacent enemies, typically

by characters with Melee-only attacks, such as Darth Maul on Speeder, the Reek, and the Young

Krayt Dragon (exceptions to Melee-only being Chewbacca, Enraged Wookiee and the Wookie

Freedom Fighter.)  Whereas Charging Fire was limited to attacks by ‘shooters’, whether adjacent or

not, such as the Super Battle Droids, Quarren Raiders, and of late, Blizzard Scouts.

A local player insists that *any* character under Han Solo iSA’s CE gains the ability to move

double speed and then attack -- whether it can “Fire” or not. He insists that Wookie Commandos,

as well as lightsaber-armed-only jedi gain the charging ability and become a hard-charging, melee

army.

Teaming HSiSA with the Wookie Commandos, an Ithorian Commander and Wicket, he’s created a squad that

no one has been able to beat (the swarm of WC’s moving 12 and dealing 30 damage at a 14 attack!)  Likewise,

he’s built another unstoppable squad by teaming HSiSA with Jaina Solo and a New Republic Jedi squad.

I maintain that Charging *Assault* is not the same as Charging Fire, and that both the spirit and the letter of

the CE were created as stated in the WotC preview of HSiSA, to let “him bring his followers along with him, a wave

of fast-moving blaster fire that consistently outmaneuvers the enemy.” [italics mine.] Therefore, he cannot use

HSiSA to rush up Melee-only characters in order to assault their opponents.

However, my reasoning has not prevailed.

Which view is correct, please?

Thanks,
SaBoNim

While I don't play SWM much, there doesn't seem to be any errata for Charging Fire, and based on the text of the ability your nemesis would be correct.

A google search also pulled up a reference to this tactic from the SWM events at Gen Con in an article on the WotC site (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=starwars/article/gencon2007b, in the "Friday's 100-Point Tournament" section), and hopefully the judges and players at those events would have caught something so significant if it was being played incorrectly.

The folks at the WotC SWM forums (http://forums.gleemax.com/forumdisplay.php?f=528) might be better able to direct you to an official ruling, and bands or tactics that could help you to defeat this type of band.
