| Oh. After majistral posted that about depressed, I checked "doleo" out on an online Latin-English dictionary, and it came out to "to suffer pain, to be pained, grieve." So, it sort of means both
I think therefore I am in pain and I think therefore I grieve (am depressed)

In all fairness, I think that Socrates was totally content with not everyone contemplating life. In his republic, there is only one philosopher-king. While I understand that much of the Republic was a metaphor for the soul, I believe he never intended for his message to be universal.
