| Well the Evil Dead version anyways.
The Al-Azif is the original Arabic version of Lovecraft's Necronomicon written by the Mad Arab Abd al-Azrad(aka Abdul Al-Hazred). While the original may not have been bound in human leather it is quite likely later copies may have been. There are also a fair number of other Mythos tomes bound in Human skin, as well as other hides that are best not to dwell on. | | Pathetic Earthlings. My guess is just that resources were scarce. A lot of societies just can't throw things away. In England, even in Newton's day, the bodies of the executed were purchased by natural philosophers for use in creating paste and other essentials (I don't have the ref. for this one, but I'll see if I can dig it up).
I personally really liked the bit about the highwayman's memoirs bound in his own flesh. I may be reconsidering my funeral plans after hearing that one ;)

| It's kind of appropriate that this is located a stones throw away H.P. Lovecraft's grave.

| No most of the Information presented below should be Lovecraft cannon. Some of it, such as the alternate name for Abdul Al-Hazared is scolarly speculation. The current edition of the Call of Cthulhu rpg has some great stuff in it regarding names found in the Cthulhu Mythos. My favorite is the ancient Egyptian version of Nyralathotep - ny har rut hotep "There is no peace(safty, rest) at the gate."

| I don't know Arabic.... yet. The Necronomicon is a Fictional text. H.P.L. used it and it's backhistory as a way to Authenticate his stories.
