So, anyone have any good advance info on tonight's episode? What numbers can we expect to encounter? What about symbols? Who will be the focal point(s)?

SPOILER

Here's what TV guide has to say
quote:
Remember Lost, that geeky cult hit that hasn't been on for a year and a half? Actually, it's been only six weeks since Kate was outed as the killer of her father, but it does seem like forever. And in case you need a recap, ABC is presenting one entitled Lost: Revelation, before tonight's first-run show, which focuses on Mr. Eko. What is with that stick? Meanwhile, Claire's having second thoughts about Charlie, the monster reappears, and Jack's jealous about Kate's attention to Sawyer.

SPOILERS

So is it just me, or did they jump headlong into sci-fi land with that black smoke? I mean, the show's been teetering on the edge, but none of the weird elements have been quite this far out side the realm of the explainable.

I'm thinking there are two types of likely explanations for the creature; one is purely scientific (nanobots?) and the other is mystical. Given the Dharma Initiative trappings, I think we'll find it leaning more toward a scientific explanation.

Did it occur to anyone else that pressing the button somehow keeps the creature contained on the island, and that's why it's so important? And maybe the creature summoned everyone to the island because it knew it could manipulate them into setting it free. See, now I'm veering off into a mystical explanation. Hmph.

Certainly Eko's brother's plane being on the same island argues for an intelligent purpose, rather than coincidence.

I'm wondering now about the similarities between Eko and Paul (Paul from Acts). Interesting.

I'm still not entirely convinced that the island isn't some kind of scientifically-based purgatory.

I always come back to the creators saying it can all be explained by science or pseudo science. The creature definitly had electricity running through it, as you could see sparks here and there throughout, leaning again towards nano.

I'm sure this has been talked to death, but I still think it's cool that the Dharma institute is what is keeping the counter running and that you are given 108 minutes to enter it in.

I finally got my friend to watch season 1 and catch up on season 2, and he caught some pure subtle geekdom that I hadn't.

When Michael is making the raft he goes over to Jin and says "no. this one goes here, that one goes there." han did the exact same motion with the exact same dialogue, said with the exact same intonation in empire... talking to chewie, fixing the falcon on hoth.

And then in season 2 Sawyer calls Jin Chewie.

And then the little metaphyiscal philosophical things. (The third policeman, turn of the screw, B.F. Skinner stuff)

No, I don't think the button contains the creature. I believe Locke said something about the creature being the Island's defense mechanism.

Caught some of the video highlights from the web for tonights episode and it looks like Michael goes a bit psycho, steals a gun and runs off to find who he believes is Walt typing on the computer to him. Knocks out Locke and locks him and Jack in a closet or something. (first snipet)

Next was of the 'hunting party' heading off after Michael (Locke, Jack and Sawyer from what I saw). Jack has some words with Kate and she doesn't look pleased. There's some eye contact and a shrug from her to Sawyer. (second snipet)

Last one I didn't catch all of, just the three of them running through the jungle waving guns and the like. (third snipet)

You see! There ARE others out there just like me. What? Why are laughing?

Well, well, well. An army. Cool. I was wondering whether Lost would turn into something more decidedly militaristic.

There's still a chance, of course, that the "others" are actually not as bad as they've seemed.

Is it just me or did Jack make lots of stupid decisions in this episode?

I mean if I was going after Micheal I would have grabbed Sayid and Eko. In fact I think that Sayid, Eko, and Locke would probably be the three best equipped to handle the situation.

Even in the Kate vs. Sawyer situation I would have taken Kate over Sawyer. Sawyer has a reputation for being a bad shot already plus he's wounded.

Also why is he talking to Ana-Lucia about building an army over Sayid. Sayid is the former soldier.

Also we need to see more Sayid damnit. He is my favorite character!

That is all.

I am not gone.

anna is more the leader type and more likely to keep soldiers in line. these last 2 episodes have been great. i would have taken kate but jack has protective issues. sayed and echo were probably not around and they were not going to hunt others but to find michael. also anna is probably the best expert on the killing the others. last 2 episodes have been great and things are getting clearer. i think ive figured out the smoke and basically the island is sfae except others and smoke

Jack definitely wasn't on his game, but, that was also shown to us with all the snippets from his past. This was definitely the "Jack making bad choices" episode.

Do you suppose the Others will keep Michael for awhile (if they haven't already killed him)?

I thought I saw people's faces in the black smoke electrical discharges too: it was like the smoke had formed the shape of the faces and the electrical discharges provided flashes of light to show the face outlines.

I don't think the Others have Michael. The leader said "he'll never find us", which of course could be a clever bit of misdirection, but if taken at face value means that Michael is still out wandering in the jungle. The shots he had fired earlier may well have been a staged distraction that allowed the Others to grab Kate from behind the search party without giving away their position.

when the Grizzly adams other was talking to jack he never confirmed that ethan was a member of his group he just smiled at the assumtion and made some comment about jack not knowing anything.

so I wonder it ethan and the infiltrater in the tailies camp are 'others' or a diffrent group. Notice that the 'others' are all unkepmt, unshaven, and have rags as clothing whereas the infiltrators are neat, clean and have newer clothing and both appeared in the camps within minutes of the survivors crashing, almost as if they were ready and waiting. I admit its a bit thin but I suspect the infiltrators are not part of the Grizzly Adams 'others' group.

Zeke (love the nickname that Sawyer...err I mean James gave him) said, "so that is what you think? Hmmm...interesting theory."

Which I think was a little shout out to us fans and our endless theories. :)

I think there are multiple groups running around and that business of Zeke's group "owning" the island is hogwash.

Dude Locke is insane. I loved the line from Charlie about Kate sees a horse and everyone sees Walt running around the woods, but he does it its the drugs. These people need to all sit down and come clean and have a powwow. That heroin would have made a good pain killer for the doc awhile back.

But yeah Locke drives me crazy, he such a self righteous ass. He can be batshit crazy and have fantasies about the island talking to him and all sorts of crap, but someone else goes a little nuts and its all bad. Talking about earning trust, the guy has lied repeatedly and done insane crap because he thought it was right (tied up that one guy in the woods, acted like he was hunting to dig up his little fantasy, didn't tell people about the plane) The preview for next week makes it even more interesting in that locke moved the guns without telling the Doc.

Was reading on the ABC boards and some folks had some good points that there was some subtle stuff going on that got clouded over with the whole Charlie/drugs/baby thing going on.

One was Hurley's interest in the talie Libby. Their hatch/washing maching chat. Him recognizing her and her contrived story of him stepping on her foot when he got on the plane to get off topic. Another piece of meat dangled in front of us.

Some of the snarky comments last night got me laughing to. That whole mini dialoge between Anna and Jack when she eyed him looking at Kate. "You hittin' that?" A few more sticks for the fire there.

Would agree the snipets for the next show looks like we're in for alot more action as things start getting shaken up.

You see! There ARE others out there just like me. What? Why are laughing?

With the arrival of Eko (another tracker/ranger/priest/shaman type), Locke becomes somewhat redundant, at least in the role he's filled so far. I think last night we were seeing the first steps of his descent into, well, badness. =) I mean, there's no doubt in my mind that he'd sell out the rest of the survivors in a second if the island told him to.

Miscellaneous musings. . .

Did anyone else see a small puff of black smoke trailing the dove in Charlie's dream last night? The same smoke we've come to associate with the Island Security System?

I like the idea that there are (at least) two groups of others; Zeke's band could be associated with the remaining (and presumably active) Dharma Station (i.e. a working computer to ensnare Michael), while the Sleepers (Ethan and Goodwin) might belong to the Arrow Station. Although how Zeke's group ended up with Danielle's son/daughter is an interesting question. . .

And, I suppose the big question is "Who did Libby kill?" I would assume that she's familiar to Hurley because he saw some sort of news bulletin concering her nefarious deeds. [:D]
